The One Luna

Chapter 23 - Hans Garcia

As soon as the man who was leading the injured survivors got something to eat and drink, stood up and bowed towards Luna, thanked him and proceeded to share his story, "Lord Luna, I'm First Lieutenant Hans Garcia. Buencamino, that man is corrupt to his very core. At first, we were following protocol, but the moment he got the message from Manila that majority of our Government officials including our President and Vice President died and that we were basically on our own, he didn't hesitate to show his true nature."

Luna furrowed his brows, he was aware of how corrupt Buencamino was, but that was only in terms of money. Money that no longer had any value in this new world. Despite that fact, he knew the evils humanity was capable of, especially in this new world. The calamity that almost befell Maria and Clara was proof of that.

"Basically this info was shared to the police officers under his payroll. After the struggle we went through to clear out an area for people to evacuate to, there wasn't a lot of us left. The evolved zombies slaughtered us because we weren't leveled. After all, why would we use a wooden club when we were armed, right?"

"You cannot be blamed for thinking that." Luna consoled Hans. After all, he cannot expect everybody to adapt as quickly as he did.

Hans could only smile bitterly as he continued, "Those bastards, knowing that we would never agree to their heinous acts, setup a trap for me and my men. I was lucky, I wasn't there. After learning my lesson, I worked hard to level myself up, yesterday while I was out trying to get level 15, I met some survivors who heard about your notice, calling for survivors. I was beyond happy that we finally had another place to go to, besides being under Buencamino. A few people in the evacuation area also heard about it and were planning to head over here."

"Why didn't Buencamino kill you when you got back to your base?" Apple on the side couldn't help but ask. She wasn't the type to believe someone right away just because they had a sob story. After all, the people she cared about were in this home base.

"They basically knew that I wouldn't be as easy of a target due to my higher level. They made up some story as to why all my brothers in arms all perished. Only an idiot would believe that, of course, but there was nothing I could do to them. All I could do was try to lead as many people to come here as I can, but a bunch of his thugs managed to spot us and rang the alarm."

"How many of you died?"

"One." Hans then looked towards a woman on the side who already had her fists clenched, with tears rolling down her face, as she tried her best so speak in between sobs, "Lord Luna, my name is Gabriela Silang. My husband, Diego Silang sacrificed his life so we could all escape. Buencamino's thugs are at least level 10, my husband was barely level 5, there wasn't anything he could do. He knew that Hans was the only one who was high leveled enough to lead us here, so he delayed for as long as he could before they shot him in the back."

She had the look of someone who had strengthened her resolve before she took a deep breath and said, "Lord Luna, if you promise to help me get revenge for my husband, from this day forward, my life is yours to do with as you please."

Luna waved her off before saying "Very well then. I'll help you, but, your life is yours. Your husband would not have wanted you to give away the life he saved. What I require of you is the same as everyone else. If you follow me, all I ask of you is to be loyal to me and do your part. What you gain will be based on what you give. Hans, I will put you under Boni's command, you will help him train the troops. I'll take care of Buencamino."

After making sure that his core members were assigned different tasks, everybody got to work on rebuilding their safe haven. Even the unoccupied houses would be cleaned out and fixed. Luna had also inquired about the most efficient way to "harvest" the water to distribute to everyone regularly.

People in training were brought out to get used to killing and fighting zombies, with some high level people supervising them along the way as they headed out to get more supplies.

The Carpenters, Engineers, Architects, while there weren't a lot of them, started getting to work as well. Luna had already implemented a set-up for these individuals, as they're going to be one of the vital members of his <Nation>. Everyone was required to do some form of training.

The best way to survive in this new world was to at least have the minimum requirement to have a chance at survival, which was at least level 10. He would train everybody who was capable, it was pretty much a requirement. The stronger his <Nation>'s average strength, the harder it would be for them to fall. Of course, he would especially assign strong members to safeguard these key figures. Very soon, he won't even need to be there for small territorial challenges.

His plan was to be the first <Nation> to conquer a large territory, then he'd be able to comfortable venture out to search for natural treasures and just largely focus on strengthening himself once the proper system was in place. He also assigned Hana, Yu-jin, Elise and Sang-hwa along with his core members as squad leaders, leading 10-man squads. This was to show that he did not care about your race. To him, the concept of race would only lead to divide. As long as you showed that you were deemed trustworthy, you would be rewarded for it.

As of right now they barely had enough people to form a Battalion of 300 soldiers, which was to be lead by Boni. As of right now, this was mainly for conquering territories, which they would start doing as soon as every member was at least level 10.

After everything was settled, Luna set out to pay Buencamino a little visit. Sura and Maxene insisted on going with him, so there was nothing he could do. As they headed towards the Government Center, they looked like just any ordinary family of three.
