The Pokemon Emissary Among Worlds

Chapter 58 - Pokemon Intelligence Division (2)

"Are you saying that a Pokemon Trainer will have the same typing as that of his Pokemon Starter?" Okami wanted to confirm his doubts regarding what Hiashi Hyuga said five months ago when they met during the Pokemon Center's grand opening.

Taeho nodded and took out a parchment and spread it out on the table. "Here is the original chart we copied from your book about Pokemon typings and their strengths and weaknesses. We modified it a bit, this time, adding the different chakra natures so we can see how they affect each other."

Okami studied the parchment and realized that chakra nature in this world was the same in the Naruto franchise back on Earth. There were five basic nature: fire, wind, lightning, earth, and water. The two sources of non-elemental techniques were derived from the Yin Release, based on imagination and spiritual energy of a shinobi, and Yang Release, based on the vitality and physical energy of a shinobi.

Aside from that, the chart also included the nine combined nature transformation from the manga: Ice Release (Water and Wind), Wood Release (Earth and Water), Lava Release (Fire and Earth), Storm Release (Lightning and Water), Boil Release (Water and Fire), Dust Release (Fire, Earth, and Wind), Explosion Release (Earth and Lightning), Scorch Release (Fire and Wind), and Magnet Release (Wind and Earth).

Mud Release was the only one that was included in the movies, which was the only advance nature that shares its basic natures, water and earth, with another nature, Wood release. On the other hand, Nowaki's Typhoon Release was the only one taken from a novel outside of the manga.

Understandably, future Sasuke's Blaze Release was not mentioned because they still did not exist today.

Okami took the time digesting all the information he had seen. Thanks to his excellent memory, he was able to do it after a few minutes. He then lifted his gaze to Taeho and asked, "How do nature transformations affect Pokemon Jutsu?"

"The chart is neat, right? I am proud to say that - "

Shikaku coughed again. "Taeho..."

Taeho smiled sheepishly. "Oh, right. Our research is limited to the Pokemon Trainers that we have and the Pokemon typings that their starters possessed. Currently, we have 47 registered Pokemon Trainers in our database, excluding you. Seven of them became Pokemon Trainers before you left, and the rest after you were gone.

The number of Pokemon we saw as of today totaled to 35: Caterpie, Metapod, Butterfree, Vulpix, Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Abra, Kadabra, Rattata, Raticate, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Paras, Happiny, Chansey, Jigglypuff, Venonat, Diglett, Tentacool, Machop, Geodude, Zubat, Golbat, Kangaskhan, Eevee, Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Charmander, Charmeleon, Squirtle, Wartortle, Mr. Mime, Drowzee, and Hypno.

Of which, 5 of the Pokemon Trainers have Rattata as their starter, 6 have Zubat, 5 have Pidgey, 10 have Caterpie, 5 have Charmander, 5 have Bulbasaur, and 5 have Squirtle. Baki Ryota is the only one who has Happiny, which became a Chansey, as his starter pokemon. Our leader, Shikaku-sensei, has Drowzee, which evolved into a Hypno. Naruto Uzumaki has Vulpix, Koga Aburame has Weedle which became a Beedrill four months ago, Choza Akimichi-san has the only Mr. Mime, and Tomiro Ragiza as the only one having Kangaskhan. The rest of the pokemon are only found in the wild and some are even very hard to locate and catch, for instance, Abra.

We did our studies on the typings of the pokemon with the most number down to the lowest one. Do you have any idea as to what the result is, Okami-kun? Take a guess."

Okami tilted his head slightly. "I have an idea but I don't want to jump into conclusion. Please enlighten me, Taeho-kun."

"Our partial result shows that chakra affinity affects the efficiency of fusing elemental release and non-elemental techniques into a Pokemon Jutsu, regardless of its Pokemon typings. We also found out that when a Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, or certain Taijutsu is used simultaneously with a Pokemon Jutsu, it does not need additional chakra. This means that the chakra you need to execute a Fire release will be sufficient to cast Ember skill at the same time. With this, some enhance the Jutsu's power like using Gust skill and Wind release simultaneously or changes and adds extra effects like Shikaku-sensei's Shadow Imitation Technique and Disable skill, which he conveniently called as Shadow Disabling Technique. I don't even know what Sensei was thinking about when he named the skill, he just combined it and - "

Shikaku coughed again. "I'll take it from here, Taeho. Anyway, he already explained to you most of the information that the Pokemon Intelligence Division has. They are all Class-A secrets but you are supposed to be our advisor, so it's a must that you should know it as well."

"I'm pleasantly surprised that your study about Pokemon is this extensive even when I was gone for a long time." Okami rolled the parchment and gave it to Shikaku. "By the way, are there any differences between a Fire-type ninja using ember and a Psychic-type ninja using ember in terms of power? How about a Water-type ninja using the same skill?"

Shikaku smiled when Okami asked this particular question. "That is the one that we are studying as of the moment, Okami-kun. If only there are more Pokemon Trainers that we can ask to participate and more pokemon species to choose from, it will be easier for us to have results."

Okami snapped his fingers. "That's right, Shikaku-san. I've just turned Sasuke-kun into a Pokemon Trainer yesterday. You may add him to the database. Not to dishearten you but his starter is the rare Abra."

Shikaku paused for a bit as he mused over what Okami just said. Finally, he replied, "The number one rookie in this batch with an Abra as a starter? That is a very dangerous combination. Was he the one to choose Abra?"

Okami shook his head. "I advised him to get one, which leads me to the next thing that I want to tell you. Pokemon Safari is officially opened."

"What's a Pokemon Safari?" Taeho interrupted as his eyes lit when he heard the name.

Okami explained to them what the Pokemon Safari was and the rules in using this particular service. "See, that is the reason why I've come here as well, Shikaku-san. I want to have a deal with the Pokemon Intelligence Division."

"What is it, Okami-kun?"

"Tomiro-Oniisan's authority to turn someone into a Pokemon Trainer is gone when I came back. This means that I am the only one that can do the ritual. We've had our meeting last night and formed new rules with regards to how to become Pokemon Trainers.

First, the recommendation must be given by someone working inside the Pokemon Intelligence Division. Next, it has to be approved by the Hokage. Once the recommendation is approved, the Pokemon Intelligence Division will issue a certificate indicating that he is eligible to become a Pokemon Trainer. Then, the participant will have to submit this certificate to the Pokemon Shop. They will have to pay 5,000 Ryo to buy the Pokemon Safari ticket, which includes 10 Safari Balls. At the end of an hour, they then have to give the Safari balls to old Baki to verify the Pokedex entries of the ones they caught to help them decide which pokemon they want as their starter. The rest of them which were not chosen will be released back into the Pokemon Safari. Finally, I will turn them into a Pokemon Trainer."

Shikaku took the time analyzing what Okami just said. After a few minutes, he nodded. "That is a very good plan, Okami-kun. We should inform the Hokage about it."

"I agree but I still have to do something before I do that," Okami replied.

"Hey! Can we enter the Pokemon Safari? It sounds good," Taeho pleaded as he gave Shikaku a glimpse from time to time as if indicating to help him.

Shikaku sighed. "Yeah, Okami-kun. Can we visit the Pokemon Safari?"

Okami gave a slight nod. "Sure. The truth is 10 new pokemon species have arrived from the Pokemon World. They could not be found in the wilderness yet."

Taeho clapped his hands. "Hah! Then what are we waiting for? Come on, let's go!"

Okami chuckled when he realized that Taeho acted like the ones that are commonly found in the game - the PokeManiac. "Should we do it the classic way or the unconventional method?"

Shikaku knew what Okami was referring to and instantly replied, "Nope. Let's go the natural way - by walking."

"Okay."

They spent their time chatting as they headed to their destination - the Pokemon Center. Once they arrived, Okami summoned the new ten pokemon that were not included in the First Phase.

Swiveling lights formed before them and the ten pokemon appeared after it dissipated.

Snorlax lied on the ground as he made some snoring sounds. Growlithe chased Ponyta who was running around the front yard. Drowzee and Mr. Mime were having their face-off while Spearow was scratching the soil beside them. Ekans was wiggling beside the female Nidoran who was simply standing still.

Ditto saw Shikaku and transformed into him. The only difference was the eyes, which were shaped in two dots.

On the other hand, Mankey approached Taeho, curious about the boy.

"So many pokemon?! And who is this pokemon approaching me?" Taeho uttered to himself as he stooped down and gaze at Mankey's eyes. At once, Mankey's disposition changed and several veins appeared on his forehead. Suddenly, Mankey jumped towards Taeho as he used 'Scratch' attack.

Okami unsummoned Mankey before the pokemon could reach Taeho. He approached the fl.u.s.tered Genin and asked, "Did Mankey see you staring at his eyes?"

Taeho nodded. "Why? Is it not allowed?"

"Yes. Mankey hates it when someone stares at his eyes. Only the owners are allowed to do so."

"Well, thank you for saving me, I guess. Wow, there are a lot of things that I must include in my notes. The first one, the horse, blah, blah..."

Okami ignored Taeho and went to Shikaku's direction, only to find that there were two Shikakus facing each other. He identified who was the real one by looking at their eyes. "I'm not kidding when I said that there are new pokemon, right?"

Shikaku smiled. "I've always believed in you, Okami-kun. Anyway, can you tell me more about this pokemon?"

Okami knew that he was curious about the Transform Pokemon. "Oh, Ditto, a genderless Pokemon with a Normal typing. Its trademark skill is 'Transform', which copies all the four skills that a pokemon knows. I don't know if it can copy the Jutsu of a ninja but it's a good case for studying."

"I agree." Shikaku scrutinized every pokemon that was present in the front yard. "I remembered you saying 'yet' the first time you told us about these new arrivals. Is it safe to assume that once it reaches a certain number, they will soon become available in the wild again?"

Okami gave a thumbs-up. "It's easy to talk to an intelligent person like you, Shikaku-san. There is a phenomenon which our clan calls the Phases of Pokemon travel."

"You mean the streaks of lights that happened five months ago?"

"Yes. That is called the First Phase, wherein a huge pokemon population from the Pokemon World arrives through the portal. Their species are limited to the ones that I have summoned. Too bad something happened which influenced their temperaments, turning them into berserk pokemon. Fortunately, I was able to fix the situation and came out alive and safe as well."

"I see. Do you have any idea as to how many pokemon you have to summon from the Pokemon world to reach the next Phase?"

Okami wondered if it was okay to tell him the truth. After a few minutes, he finally answered, "Fifty pokemon."
