130 – Interlude (2)

When the number of people in power decreases, power tends to gather in one place. Decreasing the number of commanders meant that their duties had to be replaced by someone else.

The Demon World was also a society and a civilization.

They, too, had their own logic, order, and norms, and had paper forms to handle their work. There were those who did literary activities in their own way, and there were those who enjoyed entertainment. There were also those who were engrossed in studies and were in charge of administrative duties.

As the commanders were reduced one by one, the supply and rear operations that they had to take on went back to the civil servants. Those who were born as demons and came from good families, but had to learn to read because they did not have the innate courage or talent, and those who overcame their inherent weakness and talent to become officials.

Those who filled the place where the commanders who commanded the battlefield disappeared tried hard to find a way to overcome the worst situation by utilizing their weak temper and wisdom.

It was because the current situation was serious even to those who did not know about the war properly. Many of the commanders of the Demon King’s army were killed. Among them, Damon was captured and killed by the kingdom’s army, Greta’s head fell at the hand of a warrior, and the commander who led the cavalry was killed by Kiberes’ hand attack.

There was a talent who was promising as a competent commander candidate, but after Greta’s death, he was killed while blocking the advance of the kingdom army, and Stauffen ate all the special forces and the remaining cavalry and was demoted.

A competent knight who had recently arrived had resigned as the captain of the guards to defend the capital, and Lucifer, the last remaining commander, was a man of repute, but his abilities were inferior to that of Greta.

The general opinion of the ministers was that if Lucifer clashed with the human army, there was a high possibility of defeat.

If we lost more here, it was obvious that the next battle would be the Devil Castle. In that case, it was only natural that he would have to hold the sword with the hand that held the pen and lead, and he knew very well that the result would be worse than any tragedy that had ever happened to the Demon King’s army.

“Is that why you came to me?”

Lucifer did not hide his discomfort at the appearance of them assuming his defeat. The shaggy beard, bloodshot eyes, and gigantic horns that looked like a goat were intense enough to raise the settled anger.

As he opened his beast-like eyes, the man who had come as a representative lowered his head and spoke in a creeping voice.

“Oops… . So, that’s… … . It’s not like I’m going to lose… … . If we continue to fight attrition here… … . In the end, they will be pushed back, and will the soldiers who have accumulated fatigue and pressure be able to fight properly… . This is it.”

The man closed his eyes tightly. A mean complexion and a goatee. Its skinny body and protruding belly, which could not be believed for a demon, aroused instinctive disgust in Lucifer, who was boneless in heaven. He barely resisted the urge to split the head of this rude, cunning man.

“Did you tell the demon king? What a clever trick. That brilliant ploy of proposing an armistice. You must have made a suggestion to the Demon King, right?”

The man lowered his head further and said.

“Oops, our heads are going to blow! So, Commander Lucifer, on our behalf, ask a favor-. This is it. Yeah? There is no one to rise to the commander’s seat anymore, and the commanders who fought on the frontline are all dead, and now all the officials working in the castle are going crazy from overwork. Please take a look. If we don’t take a break and repair it now, we’ll have a big problem with supply.”

Lucifer snorted. It was because it was impossible under his common sense that the supply of the Demon King’s army was insufficient. The last time he saw it, he had seen the supply officer talking about having enough supplies to keep the war going.

“Ever since I was a newbie fighting on the frontline, the Demon King’s Army has never had trouble with supply. Who is the Supply Officer to say that the supply problem will cause a big problem?”

“A newly descended administrative officer is in charge. Since the predecessor has not been able to take over, it is at a loss as to what to do with the supply.”

Lucifer frowned and said.

“Where has the predecessor gone? He’s a competent person, so why can’t he take over?”

“I went down to the southern front and was attacked and killed by a party of warriors. All the supplies for the southern front have been burned, and the supply bases in the middle have been destroyed, so the front line is now screaming for supply.”

Lucifer nodded with a serious face and clicked his tongue. If something went wrong, the Hero party did it.

“It was a party of warriors who fought against Stauffen not too long ago, but at what point did such a big incident take place on the southern front?”

“I don’t know, but witnesses said it was definitely a warrior’s party.”

Lucifer opened the map. Then, with a pen, he drew circles in the friendly camp one by one and said.

“If that’s the only problem, I can help. If the supply route to the southern front is blocked, it will be simple if I give instructions to supply here, here and here first, and then send soldiers over here to transport them. The supply route here is short, so please put more effort into the supply route going forward.”

Just as Lucifer was about to issue a congratulatory order, the man bowed his head again and said,

“That’s not the only problem. It is said that among the young people currently in the castle, there are few people who can be used as soldiers. Most of the demons who are too weak or too old are not suitable for conscription, so it is expected that it will be impossible to supply additional troops at this rate.”

“…except for the handymen?”

“If we catch that number of people, the inside of the castle will be completely paralyzed. Commander Lucifer. Commander, do you have the confidence to win the battle only with the soldiers here? Or, can you defeat the kingdom army with ragtag soldiers?”

Lucifer looked at the man. he said frowning.

“…They’ve suffered tremendous damage, so they’re probably in a similar situation in terms of supply and demand for troops. Under the same conditions, demons who are stronger and stronger on average have an advantage.”

“Can you beat the Hero party too? They never tire and have taken down several commanders.”

The man then seemed to have something to say, but kept his mouth shut. Lucifer knew what the man would say. There is one fact that even a stranger to war can know. If we compete head-to-head with the kingdom army like this, it is more advantageous to have a party of warriors who blow away hundreds of soldiers every time they rush in and run away.

If the Hero party decides to attack and harass the supply unit, the Demon King’s army, which is having difficulties in supplying and supplying troops, can be destroyed helplessly.

Things would have been different if Lucifer could push the wire with great force like Greta. Like Damon, if he had an overwhelming difference in military power, the situation would have been different. Even if only the black society that Stauffen had, or even the cavalry unit, even if it was only the cavalry unit that the idiot who had been beaten by hand.

A funny situation where victory could not be guaranteed to a party of warriors would never have come.

“…then what do you want me to do? It sounds like you are telling me to go to the Demon King and offer my head. The moment I bring up the truce, the Demon King will hang my neck on a pole and dispatch himself.”

The man broke out in a cold sweat. The moment Lucifer continued to bully the soldiers like Stauffen, there was no hope left in the Demon King’s army. He was hoping that Lucifer would find a way other than revenge.

“…How could there be no way? Supply is a problem, and conscription is also a problem.”

Lucifer closed his eyes. I’ve never been driven like this while leading the demon lord’s army. If he loses here, his name will surely remain as a shame in the history of his family and the Demon King’s Army.

Lucifer thought of the vast land that exists in the demon realm and the demons spread across the land. Unlike a small castle, a place where huge mansions and monsters spread out everywhere. A place where many talented soldiers and soldiers who did not participate in the expeditionary force stomp their feet and wait.

Lucifer opened his eyes. In the end, the soldiers gathered here were just an expeditionary force that gathered as many people as possible through the gate. There was still a main unit in the demon realm.

There were commanders who were less competent than himself, but full of bloodthirsty demons screaming that they wanted to join the expeditionary force.

“…..To solve the military problem, there seems to be only one way.”

“What, what is that?”

Lucifer got up from his seat. The man’s eyes were full of anticipation. Lucifer said as he put on his clothes.

“I will ask the Demon King. I can’t help it, but I can’t think of anything other than this.”

“Dae, what are you talking about?”

When the man asked back without understanding, Lucifer let out a deep sigh and shook his head.
