The Restless Spirit's Father

The cold wind of winter had kissed Ruan Jin's skin as he walked towards the hospital proper. He heard of what happened that night, and he was forced to go so early in the morning because Ye Ling wanted to see Li Feng. Even if he wasn't sure why the ghost girl wanted to see such a man that should have nothing to do with either of them, just merely thinking of the ghost child's evident yet newfound attachment on Li Feng made Ruan Jin get out of bed.

Ah, the semester was almost closing, and he could barely remember most of it. Just now, he thought how boring school actually was without Liu Xiaodan doing weird things or Li Feng setting higher standards that Film and TV Prod just wanted to kill him.

It was also less interesting without Huang Kun making headlines because of his lecherous behavior, Jiang Hou getting rumored to torture others, and Ren Ditian making a fool out of himself and becoming everyone else's entertainment.

To be honest, Ruan Jin didn't think he'd even put the magic one's name next to those goons. However, he was already at this juncture.

"Don't worry, even the residents are making a fuss. Their fun was taken away from them too soon." Ye Ling floated next to him, appearing to be walking with him shoulder-to-shoulder. However, she was prancing and bouncing like an energetic girl.

"Fun? They're the reason why things like this escalated so badly…" Ruan Jin sighed as he rubbed under his chin with the back of his hand. "If they didn't attack Jiang Hou that night, none of these will happen. Everything would be just like every day…"

"The residents were bound to lose control. Too much negative energy was brewing inside the dorms, not to mention that Guangru's miasma is feeding them unnecessarily…" The girl reached out to hug Ruan Jin like she was being carried; however, it only her floating around him. "Now that he left the dorm, the residents were bound to miss their free meals."

Ruan Jin flicked his gaze at the side as they walked by a parked SUV. He gazed at their reflection at its black sleek body and found no one but his image. Ye Ling had gone invisible again, but she was still hugging her hubby just like that.

However, as he stared, the door actually opened. A beautiful maiden walked out of the vehicle, and she gazed at Ruan Jin who was stunned to see her. Her hair was curled downward, and her electric gaze was powered by her crystal hazel eyes. The face she had was clear and flawless with no marks of makeup whatsoever. Even her neck and t.h.i.g.hs were as immaculate as it was.

She was wearing a short pencil-cut skirt, and it was easy to see a lot of her t.h.i.g.hs when she got out of the car. As a pair of this pencil-cut skirt, she wore a sleeveless pink ruffled blouse. Her ensemble gave so much emphasis to her complexion and to her envious shape. Even if she would be wearing a gray cardigan that was hanging from her arm, one look was enough to steal the crowd's attention.

Ye Ling was intimidated. Ruan Jin had never looked at a woman so intently like this before. Compared to this young woman's look, she was actually subpar. Moreover, she was alive and could be bearing children.

"That's… the girl from the Ren family, right? What is she doing here?" Ruan Jin then frowned as soon as the woman was done ignoring him after a few seconds. He had a good memory when it came to visual things so he knew he saw that girl sitting next to Ren Liang and was even speaking to him without fear. If she wasn't a young lover, she must be family.

"Oh, you were staring because of that?" Ye Ling actually hid inside and slept during the trial. Too many shamans were around, and she didn't want to be torn away from Ruan Jin. She didn't even pay attention to everyone else's aura. Now that the memory leaked to her from Ruan Jin's mind, she was surprised.

"Huh? Why would I be looking if not that?" Ruan Jin blushed a little. Yes, the woman was heaven-tier, but he knew his capabilities. Besides, would it be better to have a heaven-tier woman who paid him no attention than a cloud-tier who actually liked him?

Ye Ling only shook her head and smiled contentedly. As long as Ruan Jin didn't have designs on other women, she should be content.

The man then walked to the hospital and saw the Ren woman asking the receptionist. He didn't want to listen in, but he couldn't help it since he already heard it.

"Yes, miss. He's in Room 417."

"Thank you."

Room 417? Why was she looking for Li Feng?

The woman slowed down when she noticed that Ruan Jin was looking at her once again. With a smile, she waited next to him for the elevator. As if it was not enough, she even started to talk to him. "Mr. Ruan, right? Are you here to visit a friend?"

"Why do you know my name?" Ruan Jin was wary of this woman. She was from the Ren family after all.

"Hmm? You were the one who found Feng, no? Why shouldn't I know you?" The woman spoke as if it was natural for her to know him. Even if he found Li Feng, they shouldn't still be acquainted to each other. Wait, did this mean she was affiliated to Li Feng?

"Y-Yeah, I'm going to see Li Feng. How should I address you, though?" For a split-second, Ruan Jin realized that being wary was not enough. He needed to make sure this woman wasn't out for blood against Liu Xiaodan, especially with what he did to her… to someone in her circle at least.

"Shanyue. Ren Shanyue." Her smile then curled up higher. "Ditian is my older brother, but you don't have to worry about that."

As if he was hit by lightning, Ruan Jin's body jolted as he staggered back. Ren Ditian's sister? Then, she should really be trying to get revenge against Liu Xiaodan! She already knew Ruan Jin, and that only meant she had done her research so well.

Before he could make a move, the elevator arrived; and no one was there. However, Ren Shanyue didn't enter as her shapely brows knitted. Ruan Jin wanted to get on it, but Ye Ling held onto him tightly.

Something he couldn't see must be inside!

As the hospital's visiting hours had started already, people were going around. A new group of newcomers noticed the two not getting on and wondered why they wouldn't make a move. Since someone from the media was behind them, she just took steps and got on the elevator. The staff with her followed suit.

Only when they stepped in did they recognize Ren Shanyue. However, they didn't want to cause a ruckus and only let it be. Since other people got on, the rest moved to ride the elevator. However, Ruan Jin and Ren Shanyue still stayed where they were.

She then chuckled. "You must be so used to having Liu Xiaodan around that you could tell something was wrong with that elevator…"

"I take it that you're aware of them, too…"

"My fiancé is a shaman. I have the right to be involved in this." Ren Shanyue sighed before moving to get to the emergency staircase, the man following suit.

When they arrived at the fourth floor, the mediamen were being barred from getting on the floor. However, when the guard spotted Ren Shanyue and Ruan Jin, he didn't even stop them. The mediamen were confused; if it was only Ren Shanyue, they wouldn't mind. Why did he let Ruan Jin pass as well? Did he take it as someone who was with the woman? Nonsense, they were clearly not in the same league.

They just didn't know that Li Heilong had given Ruan Jin and his friends to come see Li Feng. It was actually Ren Shanyue that was mistaken as a companion instead.

"Good morning, fiancé. Having fun in the hospital?" Ren Shanyue laughed out as Li Yunru moved away slowly. Her sharp gaze was on the heaven-tier woman who was only slightly younger than her.

"Tch, fiancée, are you skipping classes again?" Li Feng didn't like her a lot. He only was civil to her as it was an arrangement done by the Li family. Even if Mian Bingbing didn't approve of it, Li Heilong didn't particularly shut it down. As it stood, it should have been broken the moment Li Feng lost his good value to the Ren family.

"I am not attending college." If it was any other young mistress, they would be ashamed for this. However, Ren Shanyue didn't mind as it was one of her few hard-earned freedom.

Unlike the Li family that granted Li Feng the liberty to choose his own career, the Ren family strictly stuck to business. Even Ren Ditian was forced to pursue Film and TV Prod just to get close to Li Feng… same with other low-tier young masters in the city.

Li Feng only sighed. "Fine. Why are you here? Haven't the Ren family called off the wedding yet? As far as I know, they wouldn't have merits from it now."

Ren Shanyue only nodded. "Yes, the elders had decided so. However, I wouldn't stand not having anyone to fill the gap until I reach the right person so you would have to do for now."

"Why are you really here, Yue?" Li Feng g.r.o.a.n.e.d. This woman was unreasonable in a few things so he wouldn't argue with her. If she said the sky is pink because the water is still black, let it be pink. He had no energy to counter her after all.

"Tell me about last night." Ren Shanyue didn't mask her intentions at all. "I heard someone tried to kill you and failed. If we don't get rid of imbeciles this early, how could I sit tight not knowing if Cherry Medical could keep Xiaodan safe?"
