The Rise Of The Consortium

Chapter 31 - Not that stupid girl on the screen

The day wasn't over yet since she still had more work in the city. Even if it was the first day of getting the new device, she couldn't get a day off earlier. No matter what, one has to finish the listed works. She lost count while looking at the list of work she had to do. Secretly she wished she had the spray with her, she would have finished all of those in a day. Maybe a few hours would have spent in the night but still, why was he doing this to her? The thought of him would never leave her till she gets her bottle of spray.

She sighed and walked to the hospital she went the last time. She got used to the ridiculous traffic system of the city. After all, she has to act like she is in a new city for a while until she gets her proof from Kner. But she wasn't done with the illness of her mother. How this swirl affects a person? There was no article on this neither any news report.

The hospital looked like it is existing and has a life of its own, unlike the last time when it looked completely abandoned. She remembered the mean nurse she met that day. She made sure she was out of her sight if she didn't want to be lectured again. Public places like this were accessible to all, whether a worker or a member of the round table. She didn't have to worry about if she has any work there or not. But that doesn't mean she can stay there for an hour. A timer had started on the device on her wrist that allowed her fifteen minutes to get her things done. She looked at it thoughtfully, wondering what would happen if she stays any more than that.

She looked for the room where her mother was being treated the last time. The doctor generally sits near the patient's room. As she strolled across the general patient's room, two guards were talking among themselves.

"Oh Rionora Tarnilier, what are you doing instead of waiting for police to pick you up?" the guard who leaned against the patients' door said.

"Heard that you know a great deal of Zolzein tongue. Could you please sing a song for me?" said the other guard who was leaning on the other side. As soon as he finished speaking, a series of laughter started among them.

She waited for them to finish laughing. She could've gone straight to the doctor's cabin but wanted to tell something instead.

"Are you sure I'm that Rionora Tarnilier?" she crossed her arms looking at the two laughing guards.

"I heard that you forgot the password the boss wanted, now you forgot your name as well?" said the first guard, cracking into another series of laughter.

"You know who you're talking to? I'm NewUser064. Means, it's not true that I'm that Rionora whatever you call her." said Rio peeping inside the room to have a look. As soon as they heard her saying, they pretended to take notes of what she was saying and one of them said, "But you look like her. Is it not? " The other guard nodded.

"So what? There's no proof that it's me," said Rio, feeling confident of where this was going.

"What nonsense? You have the same height as her, face the same, how come you're not that girl?" said the guard leaning on the wall towards her right whose hand was slowly reaching towards Rio's shoulder. Sensing what was going to happen, she stretched out her left hand, on which her device was locked on her wrist. Taken aback, the guard' s approaching hand stopped in midair.

"What's this?" asked the guard grumpily.

"The proof." she showed him her profile page that flashed from her device in magenta hue. "It clearly says that I'm a newly registered worker, not that stupid girl on the screen," said Rio as if the thing she had to say was already programmed into her. On the other hand, she felt scared to take such a risk. Part of her mind wished she had avoided instead of bickering with fools. But she's only saying facts, not a made-up story. She found it hard to silence the part of her mind that made her frightened from small things like this.

"Yeah, you are not that Tarnilier. But how could it be?" said the guard on her right weakly.

"Then you're her clone! " asked the guard on her left angrily, almost going to push her. But luckily at that time, the doctor rushed out of the patients' room.

"Behave yourself, idiots!" yelled the old doctor at the guards. He quickly entered back to his cabin, with Rio following him. She didn't care about the faces the guards had. She should meet the doctor now, that's why she came here after all.
