The Rise Of The Consortium

Chapter 9 - At Dr. Helms' office

A young man in a black suit and a black file in his hand rushed past the group of visitors around an antique treasure towards the right-hand side of the museum. The treasure was a continuously rotating ball with cavities from which colored lights poured. He nervously checked his watch and prayed that he would make it to the office in time. There was only one room at the end of the corner. The door was always locked and there was a scanner at the door which required fingerprints of the index and middle finger of the dominant hand. After softly pressing his fingers on the screen, he took a deep breath and entered into the moderately lighted room with minimal to no decoration.

"Another minute and you wouldn't have found me." a deep serious voice came from the person seated on the chair deeply concentrated on a piece of tiny object.

'But you're still focused in your work.'

"I'm sorry sir." the young man spoke this as he kept his eyes on the card on the table in front of him that read Dr. Aspaus Helms, Department of Archaeology.

"Are you here to tell something?" the man seated had his eyes unwavering from his work.

"It's her." the young man saw Dr. Helms lifting his faintly wrinkled face to look at him carefully.

"How much are you sure about this?" the man continued to look at his object of interest pushing back his light grey hair from his face.

"100%, sir."

"Sources?"

"Yes, sir. Here it is." the young man placed the black file firmly on the table. "Absolutely genuine." he wanted to make sure his boss would feel satisfied with his work.

"Were you--"

"No, sir. Information freshly picked up without anyone's notice." he knew very well that his boss might ask him whether he caught anyone's attention while doing the research.

"Excellent." he was used to his boss's way of evaluating anything without even looking at it. He saw him exploring the intricate details of small machinery that were probably ancient with b.a.r.e eyes. He was always envious of his boss's blessed eyesight even at the age of mid-fifties.

"What is the next step of the plan?" the sudden question pulled the young man out of his reverie.

"I'll send her a letter as soon as I get your consent," he spoke as if he memories the answer already.

"And what about the concerning company?"

"The process will be kept a secret till the Corps issue the license and the chairman of Makmist sign it." he tried thought about the first step he would have to take in that plan. "Any charges on her or her product's license will be faced by the charger himself and the benefits will be proceeded only to her. 100%," he spoke before his boss could get a chance to ask.

"Any other information?"

"Apart from being a chemical engineer, she's a mechanic and the only person to be able to clean the silver dust." he felt it was convenient to say that before he would go through the file later. "She is also the one to produce the anti-nepgimet spray which is also licensed illegally under the name Kner Maning."

"Don't ever mention his name." he was stunned as he heard his boss blurted that out with an intent gaze.

"Sorry, sir." he quickly lowered his head not being able to realize what was wrong.

"Let's follow plan B." he could sense his boss wanting to conclude it even if it was as early as five minutes. "since we're going to reach plan A anyways, activate plan B immediately."

"That's what I was thinking." no matter what the plans were labeled as it was planned A.

"Good." finally he lifted up his head without a hint of exhaustion on his face. "Make sure no one gets in her way. Else call me immediately."

"Sure sir." he had his arms behind him and wondered what would happen if he ever fails to obligate the rules.

"No one means no one. Not even her family." he could see the serious intensity in his boss's eyes. He is used to it now. He knew he would never fail him ever.

"I'm not sure about that sir. But I'll try my best." but he felt were not so sure was the best way to embrace uncertain reality.

"It's not about doing the best. It's just about making it happen." he was wrong. He would have to do it. Seemed like that was a case his boss was extremely dedicated to.

"Got it sir." meanwhile he kept on repeating 'I've to do it anyway' in his mind.

When his boss resumed his work, he understood it was time to get out to get things done. Maybe the office hours would be over for others, but he knew his boss would want to work until midnight.

After his assistant left the room, picked up the black file left by him and started gazing at the concerned person.

'She has grown up. but There's still a lot there for her to grow up.'

And he closed the file and relaxed on his chair by closing his eyes.
