The Ruthless Dragon God

A bonfire crackled as a skewered rabbit meat lay on the bonfire as it got barbecued gradually. Rex and Hunter were sitting in front of the bonfire eating.

Hunter had a properly cooked barbecued rabbit's leg in his plate while, Rex just had some small pieces of meat cut out from here and there. These were some shreds of the rabbit's meat which were served to him.

Rex was totally unhappy at the treatment from Hunter, but at present he could nothing. So giving up on the unhappy thoughts he continued eating while he remembered today's hunt.

They had proceeded from lake after applying mud over their bodies and went on the excursion. And as per the d.e.s.i.r.ed results, the mud kept away mosquitoes and other insects. Also it kept his body cool and due to this he didn't even sweat a bit.

The only drawback was that, the mud soiled his only set of clothes and now was left with none. When walking through the woods they came back to the same spot he had found the rabbit hole yesterday.

Hunter bent in front of hole as he tried to find the tracks of animals going in and out of the burrow. "See this you newbie, when hunting animals who travel on land, always look for the animal's footsteps. You can clearly spot what's there hidden in the hole.

See these small paws which show the presence of a small animal. But they are bigger than those of rats and should be of a hare or rabbit's.

But see this faded slithering pattern among the footprints, this clearly shows that there was a snake presence. If you had seen it you would have understood that there was a snake.

Just a lucky son of bitch who got a free kill just for being present at the correct time." Hearing this Rex's nostrils flared as he grew red with anger. He was tired and pissed off at the hunter who was busy hurling abuses at him, especially when they were regarding his unknown family.

But he had no choice but to stay silent. Hunter was a grown man and physically fit, he not only had a good amount of strength but also had a good stamina for a long chase. So offending him was completely wrong at present.

Also he was able to learn a lot from him, his knowledge of hunting had expanded a lot just from today's session so hearing a few abuses was definitely worth listening if his knowledge was going to expand like this.

SMACK.... Hunter's hand smacked him in the back of the head. "What are you doing standing still over here? Go take this shovel and start digging a pit over there, and make it deep.

When you can't beat them, confuse them. Lead them into a trap and the kill is yours. Timing and placement is all the game."

Rex rubbed his head at the place where he was smacked, it was stinging from the smack but he made his forward to the place showed by Hunter and started digging there.

He kept digging making a pit deep in the earth as he occasionally watched what Hunter was doing. Hunter moved around and broke long branches of trees which were sturdy and strong. They were smaller in diameter but were longer in length and were generally straight in shape

Taking a knife out of his pocket, he started sharpening one of ends of the branches turning them into homemade spears.

Rex dug a quite a deep pit at the marked place, Hunter then entered the pit to check it.

"The size and depth of pit must change as per the animal and its size. Animals like rabbits have the ability to jump so the pit must be made deep and steep to avoid them coming out.

Also the size of pit should be big that they don't jump over it. Pits can be used to trap animals but for killing them you to attack them with stuff. But with some manipulation you can get instant kills." saying so he dug and placed his crafted spears in the pit.

"The trap must be hidden which helps in taking the prey out in surprise." saying so he place some twigs covering it and hiding it from the sight.

Next Hunter broke a branch with leaves still attached to it and handed it to Rex, "Go stand behind the rabbit's burrow in opposite to the pit. The moment they start coming out from the hole start shaking it making noise so that they don't escape in opposite side."

Next Hunter took some dry twigs and place them near the burrow and lit a fire with help of some stones. The fire slowly started building up which he immediately covered it with green leaves which created a lot of smoke from the fire.

Simultaneously he kept feeding the fire with air making the smoke flow into the rabbit's burrow.

"Why go in when you can get your prey out. heh?"

As the smoke filled in the hole, the rabbits felt their fresh air depleting, making them escape out of the burrow.

As Rex saw the rabbit escape he with all his efforts started waving the branch making the leaves attached to it make rustling the rustling sound.

Seeing a fire lit on one side and the noise coming from other, the next rabbit to avoid it started running in the third direction where the trap was set.

As it ran it was deviating from the d.e.s.i.r.ed path, before it could go any further a spear ran past it tearing through the air and got embedded in the ground scaring and confusing the rabbit setting it up back into the d.e.s.i.r.ed path.

Scared the rabbit was running with all it effort without thinking much. Seeing a bush in front it jumped directly into it to save itself from the pursuit. But instead the ground beneath the bush gave up revealing a pit with wooden spikes.

Before it could react the spike broke through its skin killing it as it fell.

Hunter was happy seeing his plan succeed but didn't celebrate in joy as he kept his sights on the next prey.

Rabbits exited the hole one by one and started running for their life. Rex kept waving making one side inaccessible while fire made other. Hunter kept throwing his hand made spears which guided the rabbits in his required direction.

Some rabbits ran into the bush falling into the pit, while some still escaped by jumping over pit, some by running in other direction. Some even ran by Rex's side but overall the hunt was success.
