The Seeker Of The Flames

Chapter 6 - Why Do I Feel so Bad?

Freya had been naturally born with a great amount of magic. Even at the age of 3, she could make things flying around, hear the other people's thoughts, and sometimes use dangerous fire spells.

Her family couldn't control her; she had dangerous abilities, which far exceeded their capability to manage her. So, albeit it was a tough decision, they finally decided to give her to the Ministery of Sorcery. Those were the only ones who could protect her and guarantee her safety.

Her skills surpassed the standards under the guidance of the greatest sorcerers. She stopped aging after reaching her twenties, staying young and beautiful. The majority of the magic users couldn't reach that level at least before age fifty. Therefore, most of them looked old, as did their general image in public.

The younger the age, the stronger the sorcerer, so she'd be considered as one of the most powerful sorceresses in the realm. Finding a magician as young as her in the world wouldn't be easy.

Her most recent duty was to protect the Oracle, the individual well-known for her absolutely correct prophecies. She had been sealed inside of a mountain, placed at a faraway desert in the south-east of her homeland.

Normally, it'd take hundreds of years to find her location, and even if they found out, there would be no way to break the purified gates—or so they thought.

Before "that man" destroyed the gate, she hadn't come to doubt the perfect location and the security of the place. She had lived more than a hundred years after becoming invulnerable against aging, seeing strong demons and different monsters, but she hadn't seen anything like that before.

"Oh! Are you the Oracle?"

Standing 2 meters away from him, Freya strengthened her heart and responded:

"Sorry to disappoint you. I'm not the Oracle."

"Agh." the silver-haired man sighed, looking disappointed. "Then, do you know where can I find her? You see, I've come a long way."

—What? What's wrong with this man?

"What are you saying? Do you even know where's this place?" Freya frowned.

"Huh? This place? Well, I thought the Oracle lives here."

"No, no, that's not what I meant!" she shouted, "You've found our location, broken that gate, come inside one of the most secret places in the realm, and now you're just asking me where you can find the Oracle? Don't be ridiculous! You're the one attacking this place, and you say you want to meet the Oracle? Like I'd actually help you? Who are you!?"

She stopped her loud shouts, panting in short breaths and sweating in confusion.

"Now that I see it from your side, yeah it should look like that. But no, I have no violent intentions. I'm not here for a fight. I just wish to meet the Oracle."

"Huuuh? Do you even understand what I'm saying? I'm telling you there's no way to meet the Oracle! No one in this world is allowed to talk to her! It's our duty to ensure that! Why would they seal her in a far and unknown place like here, and put so much of security if any normal man could walk in and say 'hey I want to meet the Oracle'?"

She began gasping for air after putting her anger in those shouts. At first, she intended to buy time and control the situation but hearing this man's words made her so much angry and impatient that she immediately lost her control.

—Walking in and acting like that, who the hell is he?

"Humm, now that I think about it... yes, you're right! But well, I have to see her no matter what. However, I'd like to avoid violence."

"What!? Avoiding violence? Don't you get it? You've attacked this place. You-Are-Our-Enemy!!"

—Huh? Doesn't he realize the situation? What if I threaten him? No that won't do. He's come this far, so he wouldn't change his mind so easily. What about fighting? How much chance do we have? He broke that seal in such a short time, there's never been something like that reported. Even the strongest sorcerers shouldn't be able to break it in less than a thousand years from outside

"W-who are you?" she asked in a stressed tone.

"Ah! Sorry, I didn't introduce myself! I'm Adin the Immortal."

"You're what...?"

"Adin, I'm Adin the Immortal."

It was impossible to not laugh after hearing that. As much as she liked to keep her serious gesture, she couldn't hold herself anymore. The moment that he introduced himself as Adin the Immortal, a burst of loud, never-ending laughter exploded through space.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA! Adin the Immortal, what a joke! HAHAHAHAHA!"

"Wait," he snapped, "what is so funny?"

"Y-you said you're Adin the Immortal! That's the funniest joke I've ever heard!"

Regardless of the serious situation, she couldn't put an end to her constant laughter as her eyes didn't stop tearing up.

"But I am Adin the Immortal!"

"Don't! Just stop! HAHAHAHA! Don't make me laugh any harder."

By the time that she took back control of herself and stopped that belly laugh, she was breathing heavily for a time, recovering from the earlier intense laughter.

"All right, all right! If you're truly Adin the Immortal, then why aren't you 100 meters tall? Why aren't you a Demon? Where are your horns and tail? Why would you even bother talking to me, you could just open your way to the Oracle with no trouble. See? You're not Adin the Immortal! You're just a human! "

No response came from him; he had become completely silent.

—That being said, how did he find this place? How did he destroy the white magic on the gate? How can I explain that? His smell, his looks, his aura, those all belong to the human race. I know that demons can hide their presence, can he truly be... No, that's impossible. Don't be stupid! Adin the Immortal can never be someone like him. There should be another answer. I need more information to figure out the true identity of this man

"All right, why do you want to meet the Oracle?" Freya asked, tightening her eyes.

"I hope she can tell me how to die."

—Eh? What?! Again he's saying something unrelated and stupid. Is he serious? How to die? What does he even mean!

But Freya was somehow relieved. Now there was no need to fight since she knew what he wants; anyone in this world could fulfill his wish.

"How to die, you said? You don't need the Oracle for that, you can just go and do it!"

"Well, I've tried it so many times, but I've failed every single time."

—I see, so he doesn't have the courage to kill himself. All right, everything's going fine now. I can manage the situation

"All right, let's make a deal," she smirked, "We will help you. If we could kill you, then you get what you want! But if we couldn't, then we'll let you meet the Oracle! It's a win-win situation for you, right?"

"Woah! That sounds a great idea! I can't wait to see what you're going to do to kill me!"

"We'll try our best to kill you!" she assured, keeping her smile meantime.

—I still have a bad feeling even though everything's going fine. Anyways, there remain so many questions, but my top priority is to protect the Oracle, so I have to kill this man with no hesitation. We would've got into a lot of trouble if we had started a fight from the start. Someone who can break top-level white magic in that short time must be out of our league, but destiny must love me so much, to give me such a quick way to solve a problem

Freya was snickering and smirking, keeping a self-assured smug on her face as if she had managed everything perfectly. Her self-assurance told her that she's going to finally get rid of this troublesome man with actually no effort at all.

Or so she thought.
