The Silent Steel

I opened my eyes after feeling a splitting headache, what I saw was a super white ceiling above me. I smelled some disinfection smell around me, I was laying on a single bed, with a monitor making a constant metronomic sound. I realized that I was in the hospital. The accident was clear in my mind, with my cousin crying and the sound of the sirens, but there was some other voice to now that I remember, it was inaudible at that time, but I clearly remember it now. It said 'chosen'.

I came out of my thoughts and tried to look around, but I felt numbness throughout my body.

The room was dimly lit and it was quiet, just the beeping monitors and breathing can be heard. I tried hard to turn my head towards the left and see who it was. Finally, I was able to do it and saw my aunt, Mary, sitting on the couch sleeping. I can see her tired and tear-stained face, and even how uncomfortable she was in her sleep. I wanted to wake her up, but I wasn't able to speak. I stopped trying to speak and tried to move my arms and legs as much I can do, so the numbness would go and I would be able to press the nurse's communication remote near my hand.

Suddenly, the door of the hospital room opened, and a blinding light came from the other side. I had no choice but to close my eyes and let the door close. I was sure it would be either the nurse or the doctor who entered the room. But when the door closed and the room again became dim, I was able to see that it was my cousin. She was blinking her eyes so that she can adjust to the dimly lit room. She was holding onto a can of coffee, and some lay's ch.i.p.s.

I kept staring at her, and after some while, she was able to see most of the things in the room. She first looked towards her mom and made a relaxed expression. She has just gone out to bring something for her mom to eat, but she has fallen asleep, it was the first time in a very long time did she has fallen asleep, or else the sleeping pills were required for her to sleep.

After covering her mom with a blanket, she turned towards the only bed in the room and was shocked beyond imagination. Her cousin was staring at her with a smile. She dropped the coffee can and the lay's packet on the floor with a bang!! , and was trembling. Tears started to fall from her eyes and she rubbed her eyes to see if it was real. From the sound of the banging, Mary was also somewhat awake and looked towards her daughter and then shifting her gaze towards the bed.

She was like her daughter trembling with tears falling down her face again, but the tears of both mother-daughter duos were for the different reason. The former was crying tears of happiness and the later was crying the tears of guilt and sadness. Mary was the first one to rush towards the bed and hug her nephew. Lara also walked towards Dom and hugged him.

" Ohhh, you are finally awake... its good that you are awake," said Mary while sobbing.

After the emotional accounter, the doctors rushed in and started to check up his body, they asked him all kind of questions whether he remembers what happened and does he know who he is, etc.

After that, he was to be monitored for 24 hours, and then they had to do CT scan, MRI scan, CAT scan, and many more tests. Lara continuously apologized to him about her carelessness. Dom got to know that he was in a coma for 1 month. After the accident, the lady driver who hit him (Samantha cross), came and visited him every week.

After everything was done, Dom told them to go home and rest, and that he will be fine. After constant requests from Dom and Lara, Mary went home and rested, while Lara stayed with Dom.

" Cousin you are famous in the school, you are named as the sleeping handsome by many," said Lara with a smirk.

Dom couldn't help but laugh and ruffle her hair like a big brother " You shouldn't feel guilty, no one could have predicted a car coming." said Dom, Lara who heard him suddenly hugged him again, and started sobbing on his shoulder. " shuuush, its fine, let your emotions out" said Dom while rubbing her back.

After Lara controlled her emotions, she went to the couch and went to sleep while Dom also mumbled something and went to sleep. No one would know what he said.
