The Son Of Broken Things

Chapter 10 - Marion Ford

Ring…..ring....

The phone ringing was the only sound to be heard in this cheap apartment, as the owner struggled to wake and answer the call.

"Hello"

"Eh? I already told you I don't like being woken up at this time its just 9 am, besides I'm off duty today so I'm going back to sleep", said Marion Ford as he cut the call and tried to fall back asleep, but right after the call ended, he heard a sound which forced him out of bed.

Bang

The door to the apartment could not handle the power of the unwelcome guest as it flew into the room straight for the bed, forcing Ford to dive out of his bed as the remains of the broken door crushedl it.

And as he lay on the floor, a tall, slim and beautiful lady with black flowing hair, blue eyes and a cold face walked into the room, she had a cold and frosty expression on her face as she stared at the man on the floor before her. Upon seeing who it was Ford did not even bother to express his dissatisfaction with the situation, this wasn't the first time it had happened and neither would it be the last, and Ford was complete powerless to stop it, he could only feel the pain of losing his precious partner who couldn't avoid being destroyed. The lady could care less about anything going through his head as she stood before him waiting for him to get up.

"It seems I need to also break some bones to give you a good reason to never get up again", said the ice beauty as she noticed Ford did not plan to move from his current position.

"I'm getting up, I'm getting up, sheesh", replied Ford as he shot to his feet like a startled cat who just had its tail stepped on. He would not really mind going back to sleep on the floor, but he could not disregard the threat of the person before him if he did not want to end up as a cripple.

"Good, I'm glad you're awake, get ready we have a job to do", said the lady as her expression loosened a little.

Ford could only sigh as he walked into the bathroom to freshen up before coming back out to grab his coat and follow behind her on their way out.

…...............

Marion Ford looked like any typical American youth at the age of 22 who had just graduated from the university except, he wasn't typical in any way. He had just graduated from the Allabo Police Academy top of his class with an IQ of 310 and was accepted as a new recruit into the APD special investigation unit; the SIU dealt with special cases involving those humans with superpowers which the regular police couldn't handle. Ford was not an ability holder but his high IQ and amazing sense of deduction made him an important asset to the team.

He decided to join the police department because his father was a cop and he had promise to join the force before his father passed away. He didn't really care at first but later he began to regret his decision of joining the SIU after he met 'her', besides it was not like he had a choice. He could never get the rest he deserved with a boss like her. Ford was someone who believed that everybody needed at least 18 hours of sleep daily in order to do his job right. He had a philosophy that sleep was the most important moment in ones life.

They soon arrived in front of a run down motel with officers shutting off the area while recording and transporting the bodies around. The whole place was covered in bullet holes and seemed like the building would soon collapse.

Ford first realized this when she recruited him into the SIU and challenged anyone who disagreed with her. Her reason for picking him was also very simple minded, she just wanted someone with a big brain like Ford who would save her the trouble of trying to solve cases most of the time and just give her the time to focus on smashing those who tried to resist the law with her overwhelming strength.

"What's the situation and what are we looking at?", she asked the officer. She did not even give him a second glance after asking her question before she headed for the crime scene with Ford right after her.

"Well, it seems to be a war between the local gangs, and a major one at that because there were other crime scenes just like this in the area. There also doesn't seem to be the involvement of any superhumans as all the deaths were caused by gun shots", reported the officer immediately in order not to offend the person before him. He had also heard the rumors of this monster of the SIU and her uncontrollable temper.

She shot Ford a glance as he lazily stepped forward to inspect the scene. After looking around he came back to report his findings to her.

"Well, its true there was no superhuman involvement but it wasn't an attack by another gang but a calculated and planned hit from a professional organization. I was able to deduce that the other party was invited into the building by the host, which allowed them to set up strategic positions inside and outside without the host noticing what had happened.

And when the first shot was fired on the top floor it served as a signal to the waiting men below. The heavily armed men were able to take the group of 30 by surprise and easily suppress them with continues fire leading to a complete wipeout with no survivors or escapes.

And according to the pattern and groups involved this seems like the strongest gang in the area with the most members. It seems to be the main HQ of the Creepers. The other party had targeted the strongest before moving on to the weakest within an area of 500km. It also seems like the other party wanted to send a message while claiming the empty territory around for itself", said Ford as he sipped the coffee provided by officer's assistant.

"Since there were no ability holders we won't get involved but there's something about this situation that makes me a little uncomfortable. Which professional organization would care about the territory of a bunch of sc.u.m like the Creepers, such that the would put in so much effort of leaving no traces in wiping them out", said Jeanne as she also took her coffee.

"I also agree with you. The clean up was so well done even I had a hard time piecing together the whole event. It seems the don't want the attention from the police", replied Ford.

Ford followed behind her as he complained, "You woke me from my beautiful sleep and crashed my apartment to bring me for a job during my day off, just so I could do a job that would take any random investors to put together. Besides we work in central, is it OK to poke our hands in matters of the south? Also, I believe you owe me an apology and compensation for this morning".

Jeanne only scuffed at his complain before answering, "Your so called day off was unauthorized which means I have the right to dish out punishments for your actions, besides you needed some exercise, your lazing around is not good for your health. I can go easy on you and compensate your bed but if you ever ask me for an apology again I'll make sure your unable to leave the bed for a few months. Besides who cares which district it is, I dare them to try and stop me".

Ford could only sigh and shut up as he followed her to their department office back in the central district while thinking why his boss couldn't be as gentle and feminine like other women.

......….........

Meanwhile, back at the Fanucci family estate, Leo was preparing to welcome some new members to the family, unaware of the fact that someone was slightly paying attention to his recent activity.
