The Spirit Beast And His Wife

Chapter 5 - Congratulatory Gift (1)

Feng Wei's answer came from the bottom of his heart, with the fascination he has for winter spirit beasts. Most winter spirit beasts' body are pure white, they might be ferocious like any normal spirit beast but they definitely look beautiful, he thought.

His answer might be a bit biased because the whole Feng family has an affinity to the ice element. But comparing Shuanlong's spirit beast to the eastern, western, and southern places...

Feng Wei inwardly shakes his head. there's no use comparing, the answer to which is more beautiful was pretty obvious.

Even the sheltered women of Baiguan, the imperial capital, knew these spirit beasts. For them, Shuanlong mountain was not only known for being a dangerous place but also popular for housing the evasive Snow Fox spirit beasts. Now, these Snow Fox spirit beasts are popular amongst the noble women because of their pure white soft fur that they use in their winter robes, And considering that these spirit beasts are very rare to spot and hunt, the fur became a special commodity that only the rich could afford.

Some eccentric noble women even take fancy to the crystal bodies of Aquatic Ice Scorpions and have expert artisans make their thick crystallized carapace into their accessories.

In that train of thought, Feng Wei suddenly remembered his gift.

"Ah, that's right. I almost forgot." He paused his steps, followed by Jinglan.

Feng Wei then took out a ring that was hidden inside his wide sleeve. Who knows how many more trinkets were hidden in his sleeve...

"Master, what is it?" asked Jinglan, who was glancing at the white jade ring between her Master's fingers.

Feng Wei reached out his other hand to grab Jinglan's small one and placed the ring on top of her hand. And said, "This old man was going to give this to you normally, but now you can take it as my congratulatory gift!"

Jinglan looked up to her Master and to the white jade ring resting on her palm. Frankly, she felt quite dumbstruck.

And no, not because she was so moved that she was left speechless... But because, Feng Jinglan was simply thinking that her Master gave her such a cheap accessory this time, which was not like him at all.

Did her great uncle of a Master finally understand the complaints deep in her heart that she did not really relish in all these lavish goods that all noble girls want?

She did appreciate all the aesthetics and sentiments behind all the things in her room though. Most of Feng Jinglan's things were bought and given to her by her Master; ranging from: furniture, clothes, accessories, etc. And they are all high quality in material and quite expensive. She does not even dare sum up the price tags of all of them...

Feng Jinglan was definitely pampered by this great uncle of hers, but still managed to grow humble due to Feng Wei's guidance and good moral. As well as, probably, the constant reminder that her whole family did not take a liking to her except for her Master, so she was not spoiled silly. After turning 5, her only playmates back then were the servants, Feng Jinglan treated them as her family in the household.

Knowing what his disciple was thinking, the corner of Feng Wei's mouth curved up a little. "Xiao Lan, don't give me that look. Haven't I taught you not to judge things at glance?" he gently reprimanded Feng Jinglan.

She narrowed her eyes at her Master for a second, but took his words to heart and tried to inspect the white jade ring closer. And without much warning, Feng Wei's next words almost made her drop the ring.

"It's a spatial ring. It's about time you have one, now that you have more opportunities to hunt."
