The Summoner And Contractor System

Chapter 4 - System Interface

Sitting on his bed in a meditative position and closing his eyes which blazed with fervent passion, all of his will and concentration was focused on opening the system interface, 'Wilhelm, open the main system interface.'

[Right away, Rentaro. Though, you don't need to ask me to do it, just use your mind and command it open. In other words, use your spiritual will.]

An interface appeared in Rentaro's mind, showing the system's seven different functions.

'Self-Scan, huh? System, initiate self-scan.'

[Elementalist] - An inseparable bond connecting one with the elements. Strengthen the affinities and connect with the many elements around you.

[Enhanced Sensory] - Feel the energy around you, utilize the energy to sense any changes in your surroundings.

Rentaro was shocked after seeing the abilities he had, 'Wilhelm, how comes I didn't feel anything strange even though I had all these different talents?'

[Rentaro, these innate talents became a part of you as your body reconstructed and I was binded to your soul. As these are talents, you won't feel anything out of the ordinary. The only talent that you'll feel take an effect on you is Elemental Sensory.]

[Elemental Sensory is a talent that requires repeated deep meditation before you can gain the ability to feel the elemental energy around you. Only after grasping the feeling of the elemental energy around you and connecting with the elements will you understand its significant impacts on you.]

[As for Summoner, Paktierer, and Elementalist, they are innate talents which will gradually show their effect as you use them and understand how they function. Naturally, you'll gain more abilities as you progress and practice in the future. However, the system will only recognize your acquired innate talents, not techniques you use in battle. Otherwise, there could be an endless list for each ability or technique having the slightest change.]

[The other statistics are rather straightforward. You're at the mortal stage until you start cultivating. Any elements you gain an affinity for will be added to the elemental affinity list and your contracts will be stated under the contract section, stating the type of contract, implication behind the contract, and the contracted partner.]

Wilhelm gave a brief introduction to the innate talents and general statistics, expanding Rentaro's basic knowledge about the system, while moving on to explain the other functions.

[Rentaro, the shop isn't of much use for you now. You'll need to earn Syndicate Credits by doing missions and achieving extraordinary feats if you wish to buy anything from it in the future.]

'Syndicate Credits?' Rentaro questioned.

[Yes, Syndicate Credits. The system uses two types of credits, with the Syndicate Credit being the first kind. Naturally, the credits don't hold any physical form, they are currencies retained within the system. Syndicate Credits hold a ridiculously small particle of chaos energy within each one, so small there isn't any use for them except using them as an agreeable trade credit. Hence, that is the currency used to purchase from the system shop.]

'What's this "chaos" energy?'

[In simplest terms, chaos energy is a primal energy which is said to have created the universe, along with bringing about the birth of yin and yang. Following Syndicate Credits are Spatial Credits. Their name says it all, instead of holding a particle of chaos, they hold a strand of spatial energy within them. Spatial credits hold a strand of energy instead of a particle, which about evens out their value. Furthermore, spatial credits have a specific use instead of being a trade currency.]

[Spatial Credits are required for Random Summoning. Summoning has different tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Royal, Imperial, Legendary, Mythic. Summons have extraordinary potential and with enough luck and resources, even a Common tier can one day become a Mythic. Any tiers above Mythic are way too far out of your reach at this moment.]

[We've already discussed Direct Summoning, it works in pretty much the same manner as Random Summoning, but where you can directly link to a specific summon. I'll tell you in the future if there's a resource nearby suitable to initiate a Direct Summon.]

[The Mission tab offers a variety of quests for you to take, the quests are automatically active at all times. Quests are added whenever something pops up and you just so happen to be around and get involved, which happens quite a bit in the cultivation world. Each quest offers corresponding rewards in terms of difficulty for you. The difficulty ranks are: 'Simple,' 'Intermediate,' 'Advanced,' 'Veteran,' 'Elite,' and 'Against All Odds'. ]

'Alright, open the missions tab.'

'How many credits does random summoning take and what is the usual price of store items? The mission function gives 5 credits out from the first three missions alone.' Rentaro questioned.

His interests peaked after seeing the constant credit rewards, though he worried that while 5 credits seemed like a lot, it was too good to be true.

[If you choose to do a Random Tier Summoning, it will cost 5 Spatial Credits. However, the majority of summons from that are commons, uncommons, and the occasional rares. Royal, imperial, legendary, and mythic tiers are virtually impossible to be summoned. If you wish to do a Random Summoning for a specific tier, the cost is as follows: Rare - 10 SC, Royal - 30 SC, Imperial - 60 SC, Legendary - 80 SC, Mythic - 100 SC.]

When doing a random summoning of a specific tier, the summon is guaranteed to either be of that tier, or higher.]

[The shop has items of varied costs. Some items even reach above a Mythic Summon's cost. Naturally, most items are priced according to tier - the same as with Random Summoning - but with Syndicate Credits. Thus, the 5 credits you'll be getting aren't really that much, you also have to choose if you want to split them into the two currency types or put them all into one type.]

'If the Random Summoning and Shop cost that much for items, how will I ever be able to purchase anything?' Rentaro sighed.

It seemed as if someone were teasing him after seeing the prices of items and summonings in comparison to the amount of credits he'll get from three missions.

[Don't worry, Rentaro. These quests right now are ranked as simple, with one Intermediate. As you continue to do missions and progress in your cultivation, you'll stack up more and more credits. Besides that, think about the tiers of the summons and items, even the strongest beings of the Perpetual Realm would d.e.s.i.r.e items at the Legendary tier, let alone the Mythic tier.] Wilhelm encouraged.

Wilhelm wasn't wrong either. Having access to such items and summons was already a huge fortune! It was beyond ordinary and people would risk their lives for such an ability.

[Also, you have yet to check out the inventory. You've checked out all the other functions for the most part, so I'll give a brief explanation. The inventory space allows you to store items you've purchased from the system shop or items gathered in the outside world in the system pocket dimension.]

[There's also a space for your summons to live. You yourself cannot enter the space physically yet, but you can enter it mentally. You can also summon items at any time just by willing the inventory space to open.]

Slowly boiling in excitement thanks to Wilhelm's speech, 'Alright, Wilhelm, let's open up the inventory.'

As Rentaro willed it, the system inventory immediately opened. A strange open space appeared in his mind; within he saw two boxes.

All of a sudden, an automated system notification pop up in his mind, startling Rentaro as he yelled aloud, "Eek! I- What was that?"

Outside of the house, the young boy, Icrin, lay behind bushes in hiding, 'Hehe! He must've seen the mouse!' He scampered off with tear-filled eyes in laughter.

[That would be the automated system functions. They seemed to have been programmed within and I'm unable to bypass its commands. I'm sure you've noticed yourself, but if you lose focus the system will automatically close. Learning to maintain the system regardless of what's going on is an important task for the future.]

'Haha... They should really have a jump scare forewarning at the least, you know...?' Rentaro laughed in embarrassment as he reopened the system and inventory.

[System Welcome Gift] [Open?] [Yes] [No]

"Open!" Rentaro fervently yelled out in excitement.

Wilhelm reminded amidst his laughter, [Pshh! Think it, don't shout aloud even if it works either way. Or else everyone will think you're crazy!]

Paying no heed to Wilhelm's words, Rentaro watched as the system notifications continued to pop up.

[5.0 Syndicate Credits received]

[5.0 Spatial Credits received]

[Soul's Calling - Exclusive summoning, birthing an unidentified creature into the plane of existence from the user's soul and inner-characteristics.]

Seeing the gift, Wilhelm spoke out in amazement, [The Soul's Calling is in a tier of its own. Practically nothing can compare to it in value. Soul's Calling is able to bring a creature into existence, creating a new life and soul based on your deepest emotions and characteristics even you are ignorant of. The existence of this item rivals even my own, as I only exist within the system and am unable to leave.]

While Rentaro was able to calm down from the excitement, Wilhelm continued to ramble, clearly seething with more excitement than even Rentaro. Wilhelm couldn't be blamed however; Rentaro had yet to experience the life of a cultivator and lacked the amount of knowledge that Wilhelm had.

[Wilhelm's Gift] [Open?] [Yes] [No]

'Alright, I'll have to check it out later. System, open Wilhelm's gift!'

[Summoner Robe - Uncommon Tier received]

[Grimoire of Twilight - Rare Tier [Sealed] received]

Opening Wilhelm's gift, Rentaro felt a wave of warmth pass over his body. His eyes slightly reddened as he teared up, never having felt such an emotion of happiness and closure before.

Wilhelm, coughing awkwardly and his voice trembling a little bit, [Ahem, go ahead and try it on. I'll add a reflection of your appearance to the stats function.]

Getting up from his meditation, Rentaro replaced his old red-colored clothing with the blue summoner robe, giving off a clashing aura between his scholar-like clothing and short, spiked black hair. His eyes were light-blue and gave off a comforting feeling to all who looked him in the eye. His left hand held the Grimoire of Twilight which was twilight-purple in color and he smiled, revealing a look of determination for what his new life had to bring next.
