TTPC Ch. 2: Ancestral Pharmacopoeia, A Cheat Tool

After gaining the key information, Lin Yi roughly understood the central points and continued to sort out the remaining memories from the original owner.

Although the Lin Family stood at the top, it was not the most powerful family in Woyun City. The most powerful family in the city was the Pei Family. This was because the Pei Family had two Spiritual King’s overseeing them.

The cultivation method of Fengtian was special. Cultivators were able to perceive the spiritual energy of heaven and earth after awakening the primordial soul in their dantian. However, because humans could only sense spiritual energy after acquiring it through awakening, they absorbed spiritual energy very slowly. Because the lifespan of human beings was limited, if one cultivated step by step, an overwhelming majority of people would die before breaking through to the Spiritual Master Realm. In order to speed up cultivation, ancient cultivators came up with a way to bond with spiritual beings to assist in cultivation.

After a human cultivator formed a bond with a spiritual being, a special bridge would be built between them and the spiritual being in their primordial soul. They would be able to sense the way the spiritual being communicated with spiritual energy, thus, their perception of spiritual energy also greatly increased and they were able to quickly break through the peak of Spiritualist and advance into the Spiritual Master Realm. Cultivators who reached the Spirit Master Realm began to live longer just like the Foundation Establishment cultivators in the immortal cultivation novels Lin Yi had read before and began to cultivate immortality in a truer sense.

Since then, cultivators were also able to break through to Spiritual General, followed by Spiritual King, Spiritual Emperor, Spiritual Sovereign, and finally, Spiritual Saint. It was said that those who were able to reach the Spiritual Saint Realm had stepped foot into the stage of Transcendence and Ascension.

At present, a Spiritual Saint had not appeared on Fengtian in a long time. The most powerful person in Fengtian at present was the Sect Leader of the Central Continent’s Fengtian Sect who was of the Spiritual Sovereign Realm. Then came the overlords of the four continents to the north, east, west, and south, such as the Southern Continent where the Emperor of the Qinglong Dynasty was of the Spiritual Emperor Realm. The Southern Continent was also where the Lin Family resided.

The Southern Continent was ruled by the imperial family. Woyun City, where the Lin Family was located, was in the western part of the Qinglong Dynasty. In addition to the Lin Family, there was also the Qin Family, the Lu Family, and the Pei Family. The Pei Family had become the most powerful of the families in Woyun City because they had two Spiritual Kings, of which were equivalent to the power of a Nascent Soul cultivator.

Now Lin Yi was going to marry Pei Xuanqing, the eldest grandson of the Pei Family Patriarch.

It stands to reason that with Pei Xuanqing’s identity and status, it would be impossible for a blind man like Lin Yi to marry him, but in fact, the problem lay with Pei Xuanqing.

Pei Xuanqing was crippled. Just like Lin Yi before his transmigration, he could not walk and could only rely on a wheelchair.

Lin Yi also learned some information from the original owner’s memory that he was unsure was true. It was said that Pei Xuanqing was like the original owner when he was a child, a famous genius in Woyun City. After drinking the Spirit Awakening Water from the Pharmacists Hall, the primordial soul in his dantian immediately awakened and he was able to successfully communicate with the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. His cultivation speed was much faster than ordinary people and everyone believed he would form a bond with a high-level spiritual being, successfully enter the Spiritual Master Realm, and perhaps later become another Spiritual King or even a Spiritual Emperor of the Pei Family.

However, after Pei Xuanqing entered the Myriad Beast Forest to the northwest of Woyun City, not only did he fail to form a bond with a high-level spirit beast, but he was also seriously injured and rescued unconscious.

Rumors stated that because of Pei Xuangqing’s proud and arrogant desire to conquer a spiritual beast that he was not strong enough to conquer at all, he tried to force the spiritual beast to form a bond with him and was injured by it. His primordial soul was even seriously injured and his meridians were severed. Even though the people of the Pharmacists Hall made great efforts and exhausted their strength to help him reconnect his meridians, he was completely paralyzed and could no longer walk because his meridians were still severely blocked.

Because of this rumor, the people of Woyun City began to mock that Pei Xuanqing believed he was a genius without knowing his own importance and that he had overestimated his own abilities and deserved to suffer that backlash.

And unlike Lin Yi, a genius who was forgotten because of his blindness, Pei Xuanqing, because of his special status, ended up becoming the focus of everyone in Woyun City even after he became waste.

Some people said that he had a bad temper and would kill his maidservants at the drop of a hat and that the Heavens Query Courtyard he resided in was bathed in rivers of blood all year round with countless wronged ghosts haunting the courtyard yet unable to do anything because Pei Xuanqing was so vicious and merciless that even the ghosts were afraid of him.

Some people said that Pei Xuanqing hadn’t come out to see people all these years because half of his face was covered by a dreadful and ugly black scar, so he hid in the Pei Residence all year round, not daring to come out and see people.

And others said that after Pei Xuanqing could no longer walk, he started to become mentally ill and whenever he caught sight of someone who was healthy and could walk, he would become jealous. He would cut off their legs and hang them on the pillars of Heavens Query Courtyard with blood still dripping.

……In short, in all the rumors, Pei Xuanqing was cruel, ruthless, and an extremely abnormal person.

The original owner was also very frightened after hearing about it and knowing that he going to be marrying Pei Xuanqing, he felt so afraid that he would get up and hide in the middle of the night to cry. What he didn’t expect was that he’d be killed just before he could marry Pei Xuanqing.

To be honest, at the moment, Lin Yi was not sure whether the rumors were true or not, so he was indeed a little nervous.

He wanted to live, but if he really married someone abnormal, it might end up being more painful than living. However, now he was blind, unable to see anything, and unable to escape if he was in danger.

He couldn’t think of any other way at the moment because in the Lin Family, his biological mother had long since died, and his biological father had already abandoned him as a blind man. His only use to the Lin Family was to marry into the Pei Family. This matter was already spread throughout Woyun City so the Lin Family would never allow him to get out of it midway. He had to find a way to save himself.

Just then as Lin Yi was immersed in his own thoughts, his dantian suddenly began to burn up, and was followed by a throbbing pain!

“Wu.” Lin Yi was caught off guard and couldn’t help but utter a grunt of pain.

This kind of pain felt like someone was trying to drill a hole into his dantian with all their might, making his whole body jerk in pain.

So painful…

Lin Yi opened his eyes, but after opening them, his surroundings were still dark. He didn’t know who to ask for help, “Help… Save me…”

The room was completely silent without any sound of activity. He didn’t know if his voice was too weak, or if there was no one around, but no one responded to Lin Yi’s cry for help.

The pain in his abdomen became more and more intense. Lin Yi broke out into a cold sweat, even wondering if he was going to die of pain right then and there.

But his intense desire for survival would not allow him to die here. He extended his hand and incessantly felt around while trying to get up, but he was still seriously ill and wrought with a high fever. His limbs were sore and weak, and even bracing his body sent him trembling, unable to support himself enough to climb out of bed. As soon as he tried to push himself up, his arms gave out and he landed back on the bed.

“Ah!” Lin Yi cried out in pain.

Just when Lin Yi thought he was going to die from the pain, a flow of warmth erupted from his dantian. The heat flow was warm and very comfortable, quickly easing Lin Yi’s pain. Immediately after, he felt the flow of heat begin to move from his dantian toward the rest of his limbs, and soon his originally trembling and powerless limbs were filled with strength making him feel so comfortable that Lin Yi almost couldn’t help but utter a sigh.

Before he could figure out what was going on, he felt his murky head suddenly clear up. The warm currents that cured his pain gathered together like running water and began to slowly circulate around in his mind.

One loop, two loops, three loops, each time they circled they became smaller and smaller until finally, they converged into a ball of light and burst.

A thick book surrounded by pale gold radiance emerged from the mass of light. The delicate hardcover was wrapped in leather on all sides, the four corners clad with a dark metal bearing traces of time. Thirty-four centimeters high and twenty-five centimeters wide, the cover was basalt brown with four big characters in the center dictating ‘Lin’s Pharmacopoeia’ shining with pale golden light.

Familiar appearance, familiar size, familiar font.

Lin Yi was pleasantly surprised to see this book suddenly emerging from his mind, “Pharmacopoeia?!”

Having transmigrated to an unfamiliar and strange world, with unsolvable dilemmas ahead, Lin Yi was inevitably at a loss. But now that he saw something familiar, even if it was just a pharmacopoeia, he felt ecstatic.

Moreover, this big book was one that he’d seen since childhood, and it was also the family pharmacopoeia that his father entrusted him to protect. After his father’s death, those so-called relatives tried to extort this ancestral pharmacopoeia from him. Recorded inside by Lin’s ancestors after being inherited for countless generations were medicinal materials from their specific names, to their appearances, and even their efficiencies. Lin Yi only knew that it was very ancient and had been passed down for a long time. Time after time, they thought it had been lost in the chaos of war, but in the end, his family would somehow magically find it again.

His dad once proudly said to him that none of the medical records in the world were as complete as the ancestral pharmacopoeia handed down by the Lin Family.

Lin Yi was not at all a doctor, nor was his major medicine. His only impression of the pharmacopoeia was that it was thick, contained many illustrations, and was a plaything for him to pass the time during his childhood. When he grew up, he never saw it again, and later because of an accident, he was paralyzed and bedridden for a long time. He became depressed with no interest in exploring it and when his dad entrusted it to him, he was more just responsible for it than anything else.

Before he lit the gas in the kitchen that day, he put the pharmacopoeia in a safe. In the end, he didn’t know whether it was dug up or damaged.

So why was it appearing in his mind now?

Lin Yi subconsciously wanted to approach it and take a look at what was going on.

Strangely, his consciousness seemed to be able to be manipulated so he ‘approached’ the pharmacopoeia and opened it.

The inside was still familiar. Each medicinal ingredient was recorded in detail, and the names, efficiency, and supporting illustrations were all the same as before. The only difference was that the illustration lines which were originally only drawn with ink were now entirely instilled with a pale golden radiance that made the medicinal materials seem like they had come to life.

Lin Yi happily flipped the pages and found that although the pharmacopoeia seemed to have limited thickness, no matter how much he turned it, the front-to-back thickness remained unchanged to a certain extent, which meant that it was possible that he would never be able to finish it no matter how long he flipped the pages.

The most bizarre thing was that he could only flip through a few pages at the front and was unable to flip through the pages at the back. Even if he jumped to the back, the pages just appeared as a dusky piece of nothingness.

“What the hell is going on here?” Lin Yi looked at the pharmacopoeia in his hand, remaining puzzled even after much thought, not understanding why it appeared and what its use was.

When he got tired of turning it over, he closed the pharmacopoeia, his ‘hand’ lingering on the cover for a moment. All of a sudden, a golden light emerged from the pharmacopoeia and then drilled into his consciousness.

Boom——

A large piece of information seemed to be crammed into Lin Yi’s mind, allowing him to understand the purpose of the pharmacopoeia.

The pharmacopoeia recorded all medicinal materials in this world. As long as a medicinal material existed in this world, it could be found in the pharmacopoeia. Moreover, in addition to being a pharmacopoeia, it was also a medical book. It could spontaneously judge the symptoms of the person in front of it and what kind of medicinal ingredients were needed to be used for treatment. That is to say, it could automatically list a prescription for treatment based on a person’s symptoms!

This meant that even if Lin Yi was blind, as long as he had an idea of the issue, he could still list out a prescription for a patient!

It was absolutely a cheat tool. Lin Yi was just about stunned silly by this good thing.

Translator’s Note

So, when it comes to naming certain things, I could either choose to leave them in pinyin, (like Woyun City) or attempt to create a name with the characters provided. In this case, when it came to naming Pei Xuanqing’s courtyard, instead of calling it Wentian (问天) Courtyard, I chose to name it Heavens Query Courtyard. What do you all think? Like or dislike?

And with these two chapters, please look forward to another post next Saturday! Remember, two chapters aren’t enough to judge a book by its cover, please stick around!
