The Unknown God

Chapter 31 - 30 A joke and Rumurs

"So you are the leader of five thousand mercenaries. And they are in every empire's colony. Well, that is very good news! Alright, enough small talk. Biggus D.i.c.kus for your actions during the battle against the native lizardfolk, you are promoted to the rank of centurion. You shall take over the eight century of the eight cohort. You may select two vice officers."

"Thank you, for the promotion. I choose these two as my vice officers."

"Good. Caelius escort Centurion Biggus D.i.c.kus to his men."

"Roma Gloria"

The three newly promoted officers exited the office, led by a skinny legionnaire. once they were out of the building, the officers broke into laughter.

"What a joke name! Biggus D.i.c.kus! Hahaha."

"Someone is compensating for something!"

The journey back to Eternal Landing was quite uneventful. A few wolves tried to ambush Simply, but at this point, they were basically giving their hides away. His upgraded class alongside his top notch equipment and weapons, made him unbeatable until level 40. He managed to find a few metal veins. Enough to level up his mining skill multiple times. He was a little disappointed by his finds. By the time he reached the outskirts of the forest he had mined 68 pieces of iron ore, hunted 47 wolf hides and lumbered a staggering 231 wooden logs. Enough to receive the dreaded overweight notification.

[You are carrying too much. Movement speed reduced by 75%.]

He painstakingly made his way back to town. A few players made fun of his weird behaviour until they realised that he was enc.u.mbered. Which earned him the jealous stares of his fellow players. When he was nearly a hundred meter away from the gate, someone called out to him.

"Hey! Can you wait for a second?"

Lifting his head, Simply saw a bow-wielding player approaching him with a friendly smile. Behind him was a group of players with different classes.

"What is it?"

The archer smiled, "I just wanted to know if you are interested in trading your materials. Your inventory must be pretty full. I heard that every player can carry half a ton in their inventory. With your current speed, I assume that you have come back to town to trade. So how about it?"

"Sorry but I don't have any materials up for trade," Simply replied.

And with those words, he continued on his way back.

"That wanker!" One of the people from the archer's group cursed. "Squad Leader, why did you even bother talking to some little shit like him? You should have just told him the name of our Guild. He would have been on his knees, begging to trade!"

"Shut the f.u.c.k up!" The archer's face twisted, he yelled at his man. "Do you even have a bloody brain, you dumb shit? That 'wanker' equipment is one a completely different tier than our guild leader. All of his gear looks well made, I'd say uncommon at the minimum, if not rare. Even the Town Guards' armours and weapons are second to his! He's an expert if not a legendary player! Evil Eyes, did you managed to inspect him?"

A hooded, thin-framed man shook his head, "No Boss, I only got unknown for all his pieces of equipment."

The archer then looked at Simply disappearing into the town walls, his eyes narrowing.

"More importantly, that sword… Whoever that player is, I want you to find out everything you can about him. Do not, under any circ.u.mstance offend him. There is no f.u.c.k.i.n.g way that this guy is just a solo player. A giant may be lurking behind him."

Simply arrived at the inn. The inn served as a shelter from the scorching late morning sun. The usual clientele was all in attendance except for the drunk soldiers. After Megita had been reclaimed, Ser Alvyn had shifted his quarters, from the side room of the inn to the Hobgoblin Captain's command tent. His men had similarly resettled the reclaimed outpost.

The innkeeper greeted Simply. Taking a seat at the bar Simply ordered his usual, to the disbelieve of the nearby players.

Turning a blind eye, Simply chatted with the burly host. Rexiginis, the kid he had sent here, had wolved down his dinner before sleeping like a log. He was still asleep upstairs. Durnan informed him of the new rumours floating around Eternal Landing of a new settlement. A few craftsmen had been commissioned to go out into the wild to establish a new habitat. A hundred soldiers had also been notified to be ready to move out at a moments notice. A few guards spoke of a newly knighted adventurer taking on the command of this expedition. Durnan was very well informed of all the daily occurrences of this growing town. During the friendly conversation, he hinted multiple times of Simply's new status. Simply never confirmed this claim nor did he rebuke it.

Simply learned of the fate of his sold deed. The imperial trading company had bought it from the Duke for a heavy price. The construction had already commenced.

Durnan suddenly stopped speaking and nodded with his head towards Simply's back. A few players had moved within earshot of the pair. Seeing that he was attracting too much attention, Simply thanked his host and left the common area.

Disappointed, the gathered players blamed each other for betraying their intentions. While most headed back to thier usual seats, a few attempted to pry some information directly from the innkeeper. All of their attempts failed. Most guilds had uncovered a few secrets in Eternal Landing. One such being the nickname of Durnan. He had once been called the Master of Whispers during his service in the military. More precisely, in the intelligence gathering department of the Eternal Army.
