"Fine, I'll give you 3 minutes if you can interest me in those 3 minutes. I will listen to your whole story."

Melissa knew better than to screw this up.

No, she couldn't screw this up, no matter what.

"You have a younger sister. Am I correct? I heard that she was separated from you only a few weeks after her birth."

Now, this, THIS had caught Duke Gaston's attention, he had been searching for his younger sister for years, yet it had always led to a dead end.

Lady Melissa...how did she even know of such a thing? Was she perhaps involved in the kidnapping of his younger sister?

No way, she would only have been around 5-6 years old at that time.

He had no choice but to help her.

"Yes, how did you know?"

"A magician never reveals their secrets. I have a proposition for both you and me. If I help you find your sister, you promise to help me rebel against the Crown Prince."

"How am I supposed to know that you're not bluffing? That you're not lying to me?"

"That's the thing, you don't know whether I'm lying or not."

Lady Melissa said with a devilish smirk. Her red eyes and hair seemed like it was shining because of the bright moon.

It was as if she was Lucifer, an angel that had been banished from Celestia.

But was it truly Lucifer's fault?

Humans are blind, and they believe what is told to them.

Most of them act as ducklings following information that they believe is right, even if the rumor was proven wrong multiple times.

The human brain does not believe in what is true; it believes in what they think is 'true.'

"All you can do is put your trust in me. I can't exactly give you proof or anything of that sort, nor can I tell you how I know.

It's your choice. Do you want to take this gamble?"

Duke Gaston wasn't sure what to do.

He had sworn loyalty to the royal family. Going against their wishes would mean a painful death penalty to the Mieth family and Duke Gaston himself.

The Imperial family would also murder all Duke Gaston friends and anybody he had come in contact with.

This was a gamble.

Lady Melissa could be bluffing right now. If she were, he would be beheaded immediately if he joined forces with her.

If this was leaked....his body immediately shuddered, thinking of all the gruesome ways the Imperial Family could murder him.

The Imperial Family was known not to be merciful to traitors, often giving them a slow, painful death that would last hours before the traitor eventually died.

He needed time to think. He needed time to believe if she was telling the truth or not to him.

"A week. Give me a week, and I'll give you my reply by then."

"Fine, I'll give you one week, write me a letter about the time and place. I'll be waiting till then.

Goodbye then, Duke Gaston Berniece Mieth. It was a pleasure talking to you."

Lady Melissa continued to walk back into the ballroom without even sparing a glance at Duke Gaston.

Duke Gaston had to leave Lady Melissa's ball early. He had urgent imperial matters to attend to. On top of that, he had to think about Lady Melissa's offer.

This could be a chance, a chance of finally getting his sister back.

His sister that he's lost for years; the problem was he didn't know whether Lady Melissa was bluffing or not. She had seemed serious and confident when talking to him.

But it could have all been a ruse, and he was conflicted.

Lady Melissa walked back into the ballroom, and now she had to look for the second person to help with her rebellion.

Duke Marshall Peter Wyland from the Wyland estate was a very talented individual and was often seen talking with esteemed professors, often discussing politics, history, you name it.

Though she would have to look for him later, she was thirsty. All that talking with Duke Gaston had made her thirsty for water.

Her throat was itching for water.

She felt as if her lips were parched.

Lady Melissa reached to grab a glass of water.

Much to her surprise, someone had grabbed it first.

She looked up, and she was surprised it was Duke Marshall!

He saved her some time for looking after him.

"Do you need some water, Miss? You look thirsty."

Duke Marshall Peter Wyland softly said.

His voice was soothing, and it was music to Lady Melissa's ears.

"Ah yes, thank you for the glass of water. I appreciate it. I am Lady Melissa. Thank you for attending my debut party."

Lady Melissa said with a hoarse tone. If only she had drunk the water first before she greeted him, she wouldn't have sounded so raspy. She was flustered; his voice was so soothing. It was music to her ears.

"No worries, Lady Melissa, I am grateful for the invitation. I am Duke Marshall Peter Wyland from the Wyland estate, and I am honored to be here."

After a few more minutes of small talk regarding politics with Duke Marshall Peter Wyland.

She had given him a good impression of herself to Duke Marshall Peter Wyland.

They had talked about a wide range of topics in just a few minutes, and she had left quite the impression on him.

Duke Marshall Peter Wyland was impressed he had never met anyone as knowledgeable as him, so this was quite a pleasant surprise to the Duke.

"I have something to discuss with you. Let's go to a more private place."

"What matters would you like to discuss with me?"

Duke Marhsall Peter Wyland was a little confused. What matters did Lady Melissa want to discuss that she had gone so far to bring them both into a secluded area?

"Don't worry about it. I'll tell you when we're in a more private area.

There are too many eyes and ears here."
