The Villainous Emperor Is My Pet?

Chapter 20 - Interlude (1.3)

I can see that the light in his eyes is fading. That's what happens when extroverts are stuck indoors.

"The same as usual." I take a seat on the chair. "Is there anything new?"

The TV screen turns black. Kyle grumbles to me, "My girlfriend broke up with me."

"Your girlfriend broke up around eight months ago." I frown at him. "She broke up with you before I woke up."

"It feels like yesterday." Kyle rests his head on the couch arm. His jade green eyes well up.

Unlike me, he has jade green eyes. The colours of my eyes depend upon the light. They are either green or blue, according to the light. I also have golden freckles in my eyes. My father, who is a biology professor, told me that it's a beautiful union of central and sectoral heterochromia.

"You are admiring yourself in your brain again," Kyle states in an accusatory tone.

"It's better than listening to you mourning the death of your love life." I give him a smile. My brother's relationsh.i.p.s always end within months.

"Why am I born?" Kyle sighs as he contemplates the meaning of his life again. He's thirty this year and desperate. I don't think that my brother is bad.

He's loyal to the woman he loves and he actually makes an effort to clean himself when he's dating. His looks aren't bad -- ginger hair, jade green eyes, ivory skin with a golden undertone, athletic build with tall stature, and a sharp jaw. Women are attracted to him like flies, but they always leave him after a few months.

His longest relationship lasted for nine months. The reason was that his girlfriend was cheating on him when he was working abroad for a few months.

"I just realized that our love life is really crappy." I tap my chin when two beautiful faces pop up in my mind again. "We can't date during the pandemic."

"I don't understand why I should work when I can't spend it on my girlfriend." Kyle stares hard at the ceiling as tears roll out of his eyes. "I miss her."

I am sure that he didn't miss me as much as he's missing his girlfriend. "You will fall in love again."

"How do you know?"

"You always fall in love whenever a new woman asks you out."

"Vina, you are cruel." Though he's three years younger than me, he always uses my nickname. I guess I will never hear him call me 'Elder Sister' in this lifetime. "I don't fall in love with just anyone."

"Actually, you do." I press my palms together. "Remember when a middle-aged woman asked you out."

His face contorts in rage. "Don't remind me of that."

"You found out that she was married after her husband paid you a visit." I let out a laugh. The memory of him coming back home with a limp is still vivid in my head. "What about the time you dated a man who was cross-dressing as a woman? You found out that it was a man when you were making out."

And he always 'mourns' the death of his relationsh.i.p.s to me. Mourning includes reminiscing each memory.

"What about the time when you got syphilis from your boyfriend?" He grimaces at me. "You were sure that it was only a rash."

My blood turns cold. This little arsehole!

"Cat got your tongue, Vina?" He smirks at me. "Even if I have dated longer than a year, I didn't contract any s.e.x.u.a.l disease. But you received it from your two-year-old relationship."

The corner of my lips twitch. I curl my fingers into a fist. How should I mince this little bugger?

"By the way, why do you not take your phone along with you when you go to that pale horse?" Kyle questions me with a serious look in his eyes.

I exhale, letting go of my anger. The end result is the same. Both of us are too single for our own good. My parents might never see their grandchildren at this rate. Thanks to the pandemic, my mother isn't talking about my marriage right now.

"Vina," Kyle growls, "Focus!"

"Harvey told me not to bring it," I answer him, leaning back in the chair. Harvey doesn't bring a phone with him either. He's highly invested in the story. "Why do you ask?"

"Syphilis called." He pulls out my phone from his pocket and tosses it to me. "I told you not to post your selfies on SNS."

There's a sour taste in my mouth. Syphilis is none other than my ex-boyfriend. Why did that STD call me? I wrinkle my nose in disgust while I check my messages. There are some messages from my ex-colleagues, a few friends, and an unknown number.

I ignore the messages and check my social media account. There are more than ninety-nine notifications. My ex has been liking my pictures like a madman. He must have made a new account since his other account is still blocked.

"Say, do you want to kill him?" Kyle picks on his nose. "Perhaps, you can ask Harvey."

The shady millionaire might accept the request and send assassins to that man. I giggle at the idea. But I am curious why Raymond is contacting me after so many years. I glance at Kyle, the manchild of the family.

"Oh, well… He might have heard about you from one of the mutual friends." Kyle doesn't meet my eyes. "We had to inform a few people about your situation. He must have found out from the mutual friends."

I let out an exasperated sigh. "Whether I die or live, it has got nothing to do with him."

"Of course, but he kept visiting you in the hospital before the pandemic," Kyle says to me in a rushed tone. "Harvey hired guards then."

Harvey is smart. Now, I am starting to feel indebted to him. "Should I block him again?"

"Yep," Kyle says to me, "How could you ever be kind to someone who cheated with a mutual friend?"

My brother has a unique way of worrying about me. "Tell me about the time I died."

"It happened fourteen months after you fell into a coma." Kyle furrows his brows. "It was a miracle that your heart started beating again. We saved the funeral money."

Yeah, I don't need enemies when I have a brother like him. "Isn't father taking too long today?"

"They aren't at home, " He informs me. "They went to the ancestral house."
