The Void Between Universes

"Ra... Ran what do you mean by that" I shouted at her.

Ran is one of my and Emily's best friends so I didn't know what to think when I heard her say that.

"What's wrong Maya did we meet this Emily before or something" Ran said with a confused expression on her face.

She didn't seem as if she was faking it and there was no reason for her to do so, so I got really confused when I heard her say that.

"Anna what about yestraday just yesterday we were fighting when Emily disappeared, she's our classmate how can you all act as if she doesn't exist" I shouted while looking at them.

"What are you talking about there's no Emily in the whole school, and when did we ever fight yesterday" Anna said.

"It's happening again..." I murmured.

The same thing happened to me the day before when no one was able to remember what really happened, and said that Emily left school on her own.

That feeling that I never wanted to feel again, everyone looking at me with those weird expressions on their faces, I get really frustrated.

"Come on everyone can't anyone of you remember who Emily is, she's our classmate my best friends"

I started shouting while pointing at the students around me.

It was then that I saw him, Alex was walking toward us, as I saw him I remembered, that I had just met him and we talked about Emily, I even apologized to him about accusing him the day before, and he accepted it as if it was normal, he knew Emily.

I ran to him and held him by the shoulder and shouted:

"Alex is here, we were just talking about Emily tell them they said that they don't know anyone with that name please tell them..." I was on the verge of tears then, I wanted to know what was happening was it a sick joke those idiots were throwng at me or was I really losing my mind.

Alex showed a surprised expression on his face but it soon disappeared as he looked at Adam and said:

"What's happening here what is she talking about" his words throw me to the depth of hell, as a bad feeling started growing in my mind.

"I don't know she just came to me and asked me if I knew anything new about this Emily from my dad and when I said I never knew someone with that name she said that I should stop joking, and she even said that Emily is our classmate"

Alex then looked at all the other students and they all nodded their heads.

He then looked at me and said:

"Sorry I never knew anyone with this name before, and today you just asked me about the homework's you didn't ask me anything about this Emily"

"No no no... What's happening please Alex say that you are joking everybody it's alright I forgive you just say that this is a joke please don't do this... yesterday you... And now you all..." I started crying as I saw that I felt as if I was alone no one believed me I couldn't handle it seeing how everybody forgot about Emily just like that.

As I was crying like that I saw a girl holding a phone and pointing it toward me, I didn't care but then I remembered my phone, Emily was my friend and I had a lot of pictures of us together, as I remembered that I pulled my phone and started looking for my pictures with Emily and I had a lot of them... But I didn't find any.

No matter how much I searched I found none I didn't even find her phone number.

My phone fall from my hand as I saw that, but I didn't care I just stood there frozen.

I didn't know what was happening and I felt scared as I thought how no one was able to remember Emily.

"Maya are you alright" suddenly a voice returned me to my senses.

I lifted my head up and I saw Alex holding my phone while looking at me.

I didn't say anything I just turned around and started running.

I heard Ran and Alex's voices from behind me but I didn't stop I just wanted to make it to Emily's house.

I knew that even if everyone were playing a sick joke on me Emily's family won't so I was going to her house to see what was really happening.

Emily's house was kind of far from school but I didn't stop at all I ran as fast as I could, and I didn't even rest for a bit as I made it there heading straight to the door and started banging it.

It wasn't long before the door opened, it was Emily's mom I wanted to say something but she talked first:

"Sorry who are you and what do you want panging at the door like that" I froze at her words.

Emily was my best friend so of course her mom knew me but there she was asking me who I'm and what I was doing.

She didn't seem sad as someone who has a child missing should seem.

"I... I..." I just stood there without knowing what I should said I calmed down after a while and said:

"D... Did they find Emily?"

But she didn't react in any weird way she just looked at me and then said with a gentle voice:

"Who's this Emily I think that you get the wrong house little girl" I think that after seeing who I looked she wanted to be nice.

"Ho... How can't you remember her" I murmured with a trembling voice.

"What» she didn't hear me it seems.

"... Nothing good bye" I said and I turned around and left.

I don't know how much I walked I just remember that when I returned to my senses I was already home.

I returned to my room and cried myself to sleep.

I didn't wake up till my non come to me saying that a friend of mine came to see me.

I didn't know who, but I wake up washed my face and then I saw that I was still wearing my school uniform I changed and then get down to the guest room.

When I got there I saw Alex, when he saw me he stood up and said while giving me my phone:

"You dropped it this morning, I tried giving it to you but you started running"

"... Thanks" I said while taking it from him.

I hesitated for a while and then I asked him:

"Alex can't you really remember Emily... Just this morning we talked about her she even had a crush on you how can't you remember her" I didn't even care as I told him about Emily's crush on him, I just wanted to know that someone does really remember her I didn't want my best friend to disappear like that, I knew that I wasn't a crazy person.

"... Sorry I can't remember anyone with that name" he said after staying silent for a while.

"Bu... But this morning..." I said but I couldn't finish my words as I started to cry.

I just couldn't handle it seeing how no one was able to remember her I felt sad and afraid more than anything.

Alex didn't say anything as I started crying he just stood there looking at me.

I calmed down again and I said to him:

"Sorry about that I'm just not well..."

"It's alright" he said and then turned around wanting to leave, I walked him to the door and then just as he was leaving he said with his back still turned to me:

"... You know maybe just as how she disappeared without anyone remembering her she will return without anyone remembering anything of this"

I didn't know what he meant with that but I felt that he knew something.

"Wa... Wait you know something right, just tell me please what's happening where is Emily how can no one remember her"

But he didn't say anything, he just left.

Change of P.O.V Alex:

I returned home after visiting Maya.

I wanted to tell her about everything when I saw her like that but I changed my mind after remembering the thing, I didn't know if the thing would accept that so I just said that at the end trying to calm her down a bit.

I played a little with Judy as it was the only thing that could take my thinking from Emily a bit.

"Alex, what's wrong" my mom asked me at dinner.

"Nothing I'm just a little tired, that's all"

"Ok make sure to rest well tonight then don't stay up till late" my dad said.

Everyone in my family know that I stay up late at night to read light novels, and they usually don't say anything, as my dad doesn't care much about things like that as long as I do good in school.

"Don't worry dad I won't"

"I saw you coming out from Maya's house earlier what's wrong is she ill or something" it was my mom that asked me that, she and Maya's mom are good friends so she cares a lot about her.

"Yes she's somehow not good and she dropped her phone so I returned it to her" I said.

"Poor child, I knew that something's wrong as I saw her return home this morning she somehow seemed nit right"

"She will get alright by tomorrow" I said.

I returned to my room and got to bed directly.

"Hhh boy you lost the first round" even before I open my eyes I heard the thing's voice.

"...why did you erase Emily's existence from everyone's memory" that was the thing that I wanted to know the must.

"That's just a part of you punishment as because you lost the first round in the dawn planet"

"Just a part of it" I asked.

"Of course, you will know the other part after the new round in the new planet starts, and I feel that your, stay in this planet won't be as easy as before" the thing said with his weird laugh.

"What do you mean" I get a really bad feeling when I heard him say that.

"Hmm I'll give you a hint then... The universal powers aren't that stupid" he said that and started laughing.

I didn't know what he meant but I felt that my stay in the coming world won't be that peaceful.

"Anyway boy let's start"

"Wait can you tell me what do you want to do to Maya" I asked him as he was waving his hand.

"I'm still working on that, don't worry you won't be missing her..." after saying that he waved his hand and sent a black mass of fog in my way.

The next time I opened my eyes I was in a forest it wasn't a big one like the ones in green star but a normal one I looked around me for a while and after I saw no one I sighed, the thing never let me start in a safe place he always sent me to places with no sign of humans.

I summoned my broken sword after a while and started walking.

The planet that I was in that time was a planet that I wished to go to, it was an interesting planet, I found it interesting because it had something that I wanted to see...

Floating islands.

The name of the planet was volitare.

It was the planet that I knew in, as the thing said that the universal powers aren't idiots.

So I started my journey there, not knowing that a great trouble was coming my way.
