The Wild Man Of Pokemon

Chapter 21 - Recovery Training

Never would I ever recommend living underground. The walls seemed to inch closer, laughing as they contemplate eating my corpse. Time becomes fluid and gravity compresses with the weight of the ceiling. I really didn't want to be here.

Solving the family issue first, I pulled rank and directed the freed Golduck into sorting out Pokemon's families. We found a representative of a family in each room then allowed them to go around and find their missing members. If the family exceeded the capacity of the room, a team of Psyduck would expand the room back. Because the layout of the bunker was mainly a corridor that connected to deeper levels, there was a lot of space we could fill into.

After my swift and masterful delegation of duties, I was now presiding over a war council.

'What do we know so far?' I asked.

'Not much. We were completely caught off guard by the attack. Thankfully, we were able to evacuate most of the inhabitants, but we are now stuck underground.' Gloom stated.

'What are the chances of us going outside and not dying right away?' Gogoat asked.

'Not high. From Golducks report, we could get thirty minutes before we start suffering symptoms. Death is inevitable after that point.' I explained.

'Then what do you suggest we do? While we can last for a long time down here, Toxicroak won't be idle, he will be searching for our corpses and once he finds them missing, he will be overturning the mountain trying to find us.' Pangoro said.

'For the time being, there is nothing we can do. That machine will continually spout poison for as long as there are plants. Not only that, but the poison will terra-form the terrain into a toxic forest. The only way of stopping it is to shut off the weapon.' I said.

'And I doubt Toxicroak will just turn it off for little old us.' Pangoro remarked.

'Exactly. But I do have some ideas we could explore.' I said.

'What?' They chimed.

'Well, depending on how the toxin is used, it may be possible to filter it out. Either through physically blocking it with a suit or psychically. Its something that will have to be tested thoroughly.'

'That's our only hope.' Aromatisse said.

'Not necessarily.'

'How so?' She replied.

'If worst comes to worst, we could leave the mountain and move somewhere else.'

'No!' Gogoat exclaimed, 'We will not let him win.'

'Calm down, I said if worst come the worst, I fully intend to regain the mountain, but I would rather our survival then to hold onto a lost cause.'

Muttering, Gogoat stopped himself from speaking further.

'In the mean time, I recommend we all train. We will have to take down Toxicroak in one fell swoop.'

'Boy, there is still one thing that confuses me. Won't the humans do something?' Gloom asked.

I had to think it over, 'I'm not sure. I would think they would do something, but I don't know what the specific protocol is.'

'Fair enough.'

'Hopefully they will send someone that can clear the fog at least. However, I think a backup plan is necessary. We don't know when they will come if they do and by then it could already be to late.'

'Wise decision. For now, all of us will begin training amongst ourselves in preparation.' Gloom said.

'I agree.' Aromatisse said.

'Since we are all in agreement, I adjourn this meeting.'

Everyone left, me included. Heading to my den with Da, Am, and the rest, I yawned in exhaustion. Stretching my poor muscles, I pass all the rooms until I was at the last on this floor. Poking in, I see everyone sleeping.

Digging in my toes into the grass, I quietly tip toe to my own bed. Laying down onto the pillowy mattress, I pass into the realm of dreams.

...............…..

Gravity was an odd, all consuming force.

It binds objects to larger objects, a seemingly infinite source of power that comes only from mass. With enough mass in a small enough area, time and space warps and bends.

I wonder if Palkia and Dialga had to obey its whims. Could they be trapped in an insurmountable deposit of gravity? Would they have to bow to the lord that binds all other living things?

It's fitting that I contemplate the mystery of gravity while falling. Wait, haven't I been here before?

The oily black abyss, falling into said abyss, all that's missing was the… Ah there it is. The shadowy

beast that kicked me out last time. Maybe I should say hello before my demise via heart attack?

Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance.

A red flash later and one of the beasts tendril had pierced my c.h.e.s.t. Pain… was what I expected to feel, but I just felt a gentle tickle. Looking to the beast, its head was c.o.c.ked to the side.

'If it makes you feel better, I'm just as confused as you.' I consoled. Normally I would never be this brazen; however, I am in that lucid drunken state that was common in dreams so all inhibitions are out.

Annoyed, the beast screeched and swirled around me. Ignoring it, I asked, 'Where are we out of curiosity?'

Stopping at my twelve, I almost expected it to answer. Instead, it rammed through me. Jolting awake, I catch my breath. A paw on my shoulder diverted my attention away from my racing heart.

'You alright?' Da asked.

Taking a breath, I reply, 'Yeah, just a bad dream.'

'Do you want to talk about?'

'Not really, its just a dream.'

Coming up next to him, Am said, 'Not all the time. Dreams can sometimes bridge gaps between different domains. My Da once accidentally tapped into Dialga's dimension, giving him a glimpse into the past.'

'The past? Most would say they saw the future.' I quipped.

'Time exists intrinsically in both the past, present, and future. Or at least that's what he said.'

'Interesting. What did he see?'

'No clue. He only ever complained about how that woman back stabbed him.'

Flinching at the implication, I chose not to say anything. Am was an airhead it would seem.

'Anyway, Honedge and I were going to the training ground on level two, perhaps you would join us?' Da asked.

Feeling the need to beat out some stress, I agreed.

Exiting, we immediately turned to the right and walked down the stairs. Going down twenty steps that double backed, we cam into the training hall. It was the size of two football fields, enough room for many Pokemon to practice and train in. Already, Pangoro was boxing against a group of Pancham. I made a note to ask for pointers later.

Tapping my spear club into the ground, I focus on my reception field. I always left it on as it both expanded my capacity and range passively. It had grown to a little under three and a half feet of visible space since the attack on the Venipede. After more interrogation from me, I was able to learn a few new things about reception fields.

For starters, there was no consistent consensus on the full capabilities of a reception field. Da had the most experience with it and he didn't know half of its uses. He does know that it could be used as a radar and aura reading. He heard stories of Pokemon using it as a form of telepathy to converse with humans. I was able to confirm that for him, though he didn't have much use for the information. Da rarely interacted with humans, me being an exception.

Another thing I learned was that it can be used to enhance brain function. Sadly, no one knew how to do it. Golduck mentioned Alakazam having said capabilities, but the dead tell no tales. I do experiment with it from time to time. Rarely, I got flashes of an idea that I planned to expand upon later.

I digress.

Honedge also went on guard. He always turned his blade to the side for a faster slash. In his sash, he had his sheath. Another mental note to have it replaced later.

Da held the same posture as he normally does. However, it never did well to underestimate a psychic type's calm poise. They tend to have already spread their powers and hold field advantage. Da was even worse as he has gained a masterful shape manipulation over protect. Recently, I had him start creating terrain effects. Mostly building fortifications and the like. So far, he was able to make walls that could trap an opponent and contain them. Seeing his progress, I had ideas of making mazes on the battlefield.

Unfortunately, Da still had a long way to go before he could do something of that scale.

Taking a deep breath, I wait for one of them to make a move.

I doubt it would be Da, he was the defensive type. I could make a move first, but that was still a dumb prospect. Glancing at Honedge, I wait for his inevitable move.

Two minutes later and no one moved.

'Honedge, you going to do anything or what?' I asked.

'Me? Why do I have to go first?' He exclaimed.

'Because you the one who normally does.' Da added.

'Exactly.' I agreed.

'Well I don't want to this time. One of you go.' He rebuked.

'Fine.' I said, glancing at Da.

Two more minutes pass.

'Alright this is ridiculous.' I shouted.

'Yes it is. Lets just all go at once or we'll never get any training in.' Da suggested.

'A compromise?' Honedge questioned.

'Yes, when I count to three, we all strike at once.'

'Fair enough.' I chimed.

Taking stance again, I wait.

'One.'

Thirty seconds passed.

'Two.'

Two minutes passed.

'Are you going to say three, or will we be here all day?' Honedge w.h.i.n.ed.

'Three.' Da shouted suddenly. Caught off guard, Honedge was blasted away by psychic. Taking the opportunity, I strike at Da. Meeting a green wall, I strike again. Only for it to do nothing. Back stepping, I trip on something. Looking down, I see a crimson sash holding my ankle.

Stabbing at the shadow it was coming from, I was blocked by his sheath.

Being freed, I roll back and pick up my spear. The shadow followed and I had to bod and weave to avoid being tripped up again. Luckily, the sunny day in the room made it harder to maintain the form, so if I could keep Honedge busy, he will fall to exhaustion. Inversely, Da will be fit as a fiddle and crush either of us.

Taking a glance at him, he was standing there picking at his nail. For some reason I was enraged at the sight. Focusing my reception field to only Honedge, I said, 'Hey Honedge, doesn't Da look to comfortable over there? He is letting us beat each other up while he plays with his nails.'

Not even stopping his charge, 'I agree, but how to not clue him in on our shenanigans?'

'How about this.' I whispered, dodging a swipe of his sash. Gaining an excited gleam at my plan, we get into position.

Faking an injury, I limp to Da and said, 'Finally got rid of him. Lets finish this.'

'Ha with that injury, you won't even scratch me youngling. You should just concede.' Da only ever called me youngling when he knows he had the upper hand. Of course he won't be so c.o.c.ky once we're done with him.

'You wish.' I retorted.

Recklessly charging in, Da obviously dodged. Of course, that was a step in my plan. Now that he thought I was injured and tired from my battle, he did not see me changing direction halfway through. Succeeding in my little feint, Da received a bash in the skull. I was reminded that Pokemon, especially strong ones, had hard heads. Feeling the recoil, Da capitalized and hit me with a gentle psychic. I could never take a full one like Honedge. However it was to late.

The thing about Honedge and shadow sneak was that unless you were consciously looking for it, it was undetectable.

Rising from the earth like the reaper of death, Honedge slashed his blade into the ground. A cloud of dust encompassed both. Watching the sediment settle, I was greeted with a humorous sight. A shiny Da. Falling over laughing, I lost all breath. Revenge was sweet.

That ended quickly however as Da caught us both in a protect box.

'Think this is funny do you? Do you know how long it takes to clean my fur. Days!'

'Well if you weren't afraid of water, then bathing would take minutes.' I said.

Da had a dangerous look in his eye, 'Water you say? If you think so highly of it, then drown!'

The box started filling with water in torrents. I imagined this was how clothes felt in a washing machine. Honedge was in a similar situation, unable to escape and being tossed around. Sighing, I save the image of Da for sharing later. Am always gets a laugh out of them and that was brownie points for favors.
