The Wild Man Of Pokemon

Chapter 9 - Electric Hunting Party

Throughout the day, Honedge and I talked, mainly about each other. I told him how I gained the ability to talk to Pokemon, he told me where he came from and what moves he knows. I did learn that he was actually a young Pokemon, not even a full year old.

Da did say hello around late afternoon. I could tell from his aura that he was a little reluctant to interact with Honedge, but he was still pleasant. The day ended like that and when we woke up the next day, I was pleased to find that some of the damage done was slowly healing.

Today, I was messing with the leftover pieces from the Venipede. Because of its rounded shape and brittle nature, I think the only use for it was armor. After having Da shave it down to size, it fit onto my shoulder.

Some sewing with Nincada, and we had a proper shoulder guard.

Honedge was floating around, getting used to his sheath. From the way it jiggled, I didn't make a perfect fit, but until I got better at crafting, it will have to do.

During the later hours, I picked Honedge's brain, trying to find exploits in his move set. He knew slash and metal sound. While not the best set to work with, it was a start. I think with how much Honedge had to move around on the mountain, he couldn't find the time to actually experiment with his power.

First, I had him dig around inside himself for the different energies Pokemon are known to possess. From my time with Da, I learned that each Pokemon had different types of energy in them. Its why a grass type can use a poison type move. There are still many limitations to this, for example, Oddish and Toxicroak are both poison types, but Toxicroak will never be able to use poison powder because Toxicroak does not have the organs to produce the effect.

These energies manifest in a part of a Pokemon, giving it the capability to use it. These energies are also genetic, i.e. egg moves. Certain Pokemon have compatible physiologies, and they can pass certain genes that will allow for a certain move. Its a lot more complicated, but in general, so long as a Pokemon have the gene or organ that allows for it, they can use a different type of energy.

Honedge was trying to tap into these powers to build moves. Another thing I learned, a Pokemon 'move' is just a set expression of energy. Think of it like programming, Honedge uses his ghost energy to compress himself into a shadow, allowing him to sneak attack a Pokemon from behind. This same Ghost energy could be programmed to be compressed into a blade, i.e. shadow claw. Moves are much more free flowing then in the games. So much so that it is possible to make new 'moves'.

When I discovered this, the implications were mind boggling. In theory, with the right energy and enough of it, reality shattering effects could be achieved.

Drifting out of my thoughts, I got back to my own self imposed task. While Honedge was soul searching, I was trying to detect Pokemon with my reception field. The main issues I ran into was that my rays kept getting jumbled. I would send a ray out and it would come back fine. However, each ray was about the size of my hand, its not going to give me a radar ability like I wanted anytime soon. To counter this, I try to spam multiple rays going out in all directions at once. They keep bouncing off each other like waves in a bath tub.

Right now, I was trying to target one specific area. If I could break it down into little chunks, I could build it up to the full radar system.

The day ticks by and we managed to achieve minimal results. Honedge was able to detect one of his energies, but it kept slipping away from him. Da thinks its his ghost type, but we are not sure.

I, on the other hand, was able to get a small ping from my detection abilities. I think it was Honedge, because the feed back I got was hard and pointed. The feeling was like a three dimensional pixel in a void.

But a success, no matter how small, was still a success.

The next day repeated as the first. Max training for minimal results. On the third day however, I decided to take a hunting trip. I made Honedge stay behind as he was still recovering.

Da and I came back with several Oddish and Sentret. While I might be trying to hunt other Pokemon, I still had a lot to learn. Honedge was curios about dismantling and was able to pickup a few things. I still prevented him from joining in, much to his ire.

That night however, I decided to leave Mr. Hyde Thief a little surprise. I tanned the hides like normal, but I coated the skins in sleep powder. If anyone touched it, they will get handfuls of tranquilizer. It won't actually knock the Pokemon out, but it will make it sluggish. And sluggish means sloppy.

It was a success to. A few hours after midnight, a rumbling of rocks and sticks woke us up. Da jumped out of bed and followed me to the tunnel. Sadly, Mr. Hyde had ditched the goods in favor a fast escape. But that should teach him from stealing from me, the great Dr. Jekyll Guy. I think I am starting to go insane.

Going back to bed, the rest of the night was peaceful.

During the morning, Honedge and I started to do some physical activity. He would strike at an invisible opponent, while I did some sit ups and push ups. I kept it light as I was still growing and didn't want to stunt my growth.

As afternoon came by, we practiced our respective energies. I did detection, he was flexing his energy and like that the day ended.

...............…..

Two weeks later and we both made considerable progress.

I could get a three by three inch area of visible detection and Honedge was able to manifest some of his ghost type energy. So far, he could get it to coat his body. When I touched him, my fingers slightly sank into him. He was learning how to go incorporeal.

Today, however, will be our first day hunting together. Honedge would float around in his sheath and Da had piggy-backed on me.

'So what do you think we will find today?' I asked.

'Who knows. The area we are heading to is someplace I have never really explored.' Da answered.

Despite knowing his way around a good percentage of the mountain, Da mainly stuck downstream of the river. Today, we headed up to find more unique Pokemon. Sentret kabobs were getting old fast.

'Hopefully something strong, I want to test myself.' Turns out Honedge was a battle fan.

'Lets not jinx ourselves here. Remember what happened with the Venipede?' I chastised.

I believe I heard him grumble about stupid bugs and their ilk. Honedge really holds a grudge.

Twenty minutes of navigating and we finally find something. Two little rabbit Pokemon were playing a with a leaf. Their bodies were a dark cream, while ones ears were red, the others blue.

'That's a Plusle and Minun.' I remarked.

'What type of Pokemon are they?' Honedge asked.

'Electric types, they also rely on teamwork, a lot of times powering the others moves so watch out for any attacks.'

I admit that while watching them, they were beyond cute, but I need new materials and they have electricity resistant pelts. Defenses like that are golden out here in the wild. Letting an opportunity like this to slip, would be wasteful.

Pointing for Da to block their exit, me and Honedge flank them from the front.

'I am going to knock them out while you go for the killing blow. Don't let them get a chance to attack.'

'Got it.' he replied.

I stalked as silently as possible, barely crunching the leaves. Once in range, I blew a cloud of sleep dust to our prey.

The Plusle was completely enveloped; however, Minun noticed at the last second, dodging by a hairsbreadth.

Honedge flew in, aiming to get a stab, but Minun's agility was not to be underestimated. Thinking quick on its feet, Minun charged a small ball of electricity, before throwing it at Honedge.

It zapped to him, before striking. Honedge screeched, the energy burning his metal body.

Switching to my club, I try to wail on the little rascal. It dodged, before sending the same attack at me. Leaping to the side, it managed to clip my calf, though it might as well have hit. Intense burning and clenching ripped through my leg. My lungs caught and my breath halted. Mouth gaping, I grab my left leg, hoping to make it stop.

The Minun went for a finishing attack, but Honedge jumped it from behind, cleanly stabbing through its back.

Now lifeless, it slumped on Honedge's blade.

Crying from the pain, I clenched the wound in my leg. Hearing my screams, Da jumped out of a bush. Seeing me on the ground, he tried to calm me.

'Its okay, its okay. I know it hurts, but I need you to let it go. I have to see how bad it is.'

Grinding my teeth, I jerked back, exposing the wound to the cool, stimulating air. Taking a glance, there were branches of black skin originating from a single, bloody gash.

'I need to clean it as soon as possible. This is going to hurt.' Da opened his ears. Utilizing his psychic power, he conjured water from thin air. As he would tell me later, he grabbed the globs of water in the air. Forming a bubble, he told Honedge, 'Hold his leg up.'

Doing so, Da then enveloped my leg in water. It was a contradictory stimuli that overloaded my senses. Cold and hot, stinging and heavy. Even Da's psychic energy caused my skin to crawl.

Clenching my teeth, I endured as best I could. However, the experience was traumatizing.

Once Da was satisfied, he cast a golden light on the leg.

'I put a light screen barrier to keep the little monsters out. Can you walk?'

I begrudgingly try to stand up. The pain was still there, but I could stand. Taking a step forward, a sharp pain sparked up my spine. Falling for a second, Da tried to pick me up. Waving him off, I stand back up. Prepared this time, I took a step. It was a weak, borderline hovel, step, though I made do.

Honedge braced up against me. Nodding thanks, we look to our spoils. Plusle was still on the ground unconscious, and Minun was on the ground dead.

Da quickly finished it off before carrying both bodies with psychic.

'We should head back. The blood and screaming will have attracted some larger Pokemon.' Da announced.

Nodding, we headed back up the trail, I limping the entire way.

Some time later, the rustling in a bush halted us in our tracks.

'Well, well, what do we have here?' A bell like voice chortled. 'A human, a Meowstic, and a despicable Honedge. It must be my lucky day.' Out of the bushes came a Pokemon with rose like appendages. Its head was a bunched up bouquet of white roses, while its hands were similar except one was blue and the other red. A green cape billowed from its back.

It was a Roserade.

'Normally, I don't bother with the riff-raff, but once I saw that it was the little boy who put dear old Toxy out of commission, well I just had to get a piece of the action.' her aura sweet and pungent. Like a woman who doused herself in cheap perfume.

Following behind the Roserade were three Roselia. Each haughtily sauntering towards our group.

'While I am sure a conversation would be lovely, we must be on our way. Move aside before I make you.' Da declared. His fur was raised and Honedge was on guard.

'Oh, don't be like that. I know someone who would very much like to see you. After your little debacle a few months back, Toxy has demanded for your heads. I am sure he would reward me handsomely if I brought in the two who hurt him so.'

'Not happening.' Honedge affirmed.

Thinking quickly, I privately tell Da and Honedge, 'Roserade and Roselia are both poison and grass types. Their move set reflect this. However; like the Plusle and Minun, they are fast, special attackers.' Shaking their heads, I continue, 'The problem is if one of them have the poison point ability. Any direct contact could poison us. Except for Honedge as you're immune.'

More nodding.

'Da, you need to keep your distance and use light screen and psychic to keep them at bay. Honedge, you need to get up close and trim them down. Also watch for their grass attacks. I believe they can all use leech seed.'

Grunting, they got ready for the attack.

'Well that is a shame. You don't get a choice in the matter.' Roserade fired glowing green leaves. They closed in fast, promising to tear us to shreds.
