8 – Test 4

There’s one thing I’ve learned in my life.

If I ever have an ‘enemy’, it’s better to trample everything possible, for whatever reason.

… Whatever it might be.

I looked at Ariel who fell from the touch of my mace.

Perhaps, due to having been active under the orders of the God’s Temple for a long time, I could see a mana shield activated within a short time.

It seemed like a typical torture expert, and I struck the head with the mace again.

Crack!

The sound of both the shield breaking and the skull collapsing came simultaneously.

Looking at Ariel, who completely lost consciousness, I slowly stepped on her, speaking,

“Don’t cross the line.”

If a third person was watching me, wouldn’t they see me as a movie extra, a chaebol villain, or a villain who dies early?

Looking at the blood on my mace, I turned my gaze, thinking the impact given by the mace was not bad.

“Arghhh!”

“What… What happened?”

“Wasn’t Darren on our side …?”

Voices confused by the unexpected situation echoed everywhere.

Clearly, they were unable to follow the sudden turn of events, where their most reliable ally turned into an enemy.

I slowly approached them, wiping off the blood on my face.

“Next.”

At my word, everyone seemed to be catching cues, looking between Ariel and me.

From their perspective, they only came out to play, but they ended up facing unbearable violence, not even wanting to confront the youngest of the Lerche family.

Looking at them, who couldn’t even look me in the eye out of fear, I sneered.

Then, I waved my mace and briefly said,

“If you’re not coming, get lost.”

No matter who I am, facing this many people alone is tricky, and I said so intending to lessen the numbers.

Whether it’s the surrounding atmosphere or something is bothering them, they don’t intend to run away.

With a sardonic smile at their performance, I hardened my face and struck the shoulder of the closest guy with my mace.

Thud!

The sound of breaking bones echoed around the room, followed by a scream of agony.

At that noise, the hesitant nobles began to scatter in all directions, attempting to flee from me.

“aaargh!”

“Run, run away!”

“Damn it!”

The nobles, having the luxury to hit others due to their status, but never having been hit themselves, react excessively well to the punishment.

While still looking at Ariel, who is lying down, I slammed my mace into her back once more to make sure, and then opened my mouth.

“So, Professor, you’re not running?”

“……”

The new Professor Cyrus.

Or should I say, the Priest Cyrus of Heaven’s Church, was silently smiling, looking at me.

I observed her whilst gauging the situation.

‘… Can I catch her?’

In fact, the feeling I got when I captured Ariel was not due to my strength, but the combination of luck and surprise.

But the prospect of capturing Cyrus, who is even stronger than Ariel, is hard to grasp.

While pondering, I thought of a description that appeared in the novel

‘No matter how desperately I struggled, dealing with Cyrus was impossible … no, even enduring for a moment was impossible.’

Remembering the fact that it was entirely impossible, I fell into deep thought.

While I was pondering what to do, Cyrus began to speak to me in a calm voice.

“Are you trying to protect this child?”

Not feeling the need to answer, I kept my mouth shut.

Cyrus pulled out a dagger from within her clothes and looked at me.

‘Wasn’t she a magician?’

But why would she need a dagger, I wondered.

Immediately, she turned around, grabbed the head of Lumi who was lying nearby by the hair, and pressed the blade to her throat.

“So what will it be now? She seems destined to die.”

With a sly smile, she provokes me.

She lightly pricked Lumi’s throat with the sharp end of the knife and said.

“I really don’t understand why you’re trying to protect this kid … But you’re going to regret it a lot. The people who want her to be unhappy are pretty impressive.”

“……”

She wasn’t wrong.

Not just starting with some well-known figures, the organization known as Heaven’s Church also includes many high-ranking officials.

So why not give up now and join our side? You would make a great member of Heaven’s Church.”

At that, I pretended to contemplate for a moment, and without warning, I threw my mace straight at Cyrus.

“……!”

Cyrus tried to deflect the flying mace with magic, but.

Before she could, I had already infiltrated the ownership of her magic.

Then, Cyrus, whether realizing what I was trying to do or not, let out a mixed laugh of amusement and rage.

He easily attempted to block my intrusion.

“aaargh!”

Just before he could push me back, my foot found its way into Sirius’s abdomen.

I immediately picked up the mace, confirming Sirius rolling on the ground.

‘He’s carefree.’

The overwhelming difference in skill allowed my effective strike to work. Sirius, having let his guard down, was easy prey.

Had Sirius seriously tried to oppose me, I could have stopped him. His delayed reaction indicated he had many considerations.

Opening my eyes narrowly, I thought the label of Lercheia, clinging more to me than I thought, was helpful.

‘So, what now?’

Luck and force allowed me to save Rumi, but I still couldn’t figure out how to beat Sirius.

Thus, I was focusing on how to get out of this situation when…

“… The brat. You keep pushing your luck.”

Sirius’s subdued voice rang out.

“Trying to be gentle because you’re the youngest of Lercheia. But now? Crossing the line?”

He glanced at me, teeth grinding, no attempt to feign calm.

Discarding the dagger he held, he drew out a magic book.

“Well… Let’s go all the way since it’s already ruined.”

Then he began to cast magic, exhaling mana on a scale incomparable to before.

I tried to interfere with his mana, attempting to take control but…

‘… It’s not working, huh.’

Unlike before, I was pushed back without even getting close.

‘So, the only option is close combat.’

I wondered if it was possible to approach a wizard who was openly on guard.

I clenched my mace, deciding to hold on, preparing my stance when…

“Ice Spear!”

Five enormous spears poured towards me.

The spears were charging at such a speed that it was hard to track them with my eyes.

At first, I thought of using magic to block them, but seeing their size, I threw myself to the side instead.

– Kwaang!

A loud explosion echoed.

I brushed away the scattered ice fragments from the shattered spear as I quickly got up.

‘It’s more powerful than I thought.’

If I had tried to block that, I would have been the one shattered. I was sure of it as I prepared for the next attack.

Before I could prepare, ice arrows rained down faster.

‘…’

The speed of proceeding magic was unimaginably fast.

As I was stepping back from the endless ice arrows, someone behind me broke out in laughter.

“Sirius, are you really making a fuss because you can’t catch one student?”

The unexpected appearance of a new enemy.

This was a detail not even mentioned in the books, which left me understandably bewildered.

‘Could it be that the battle lasted long, and the minions of the Tianshin sect who were hiding within the academy saw this and ran over?’

That was the only possibility.

I was biting my lip due to the increasingly difficult situation when the newly appeared male student, who was behind me, spoke while drawing his sword.

“Then let’s dispose of this quickly and leave. If we take any longer, I fear the archbishop will get quite angry.”

“… Fine. But don’t kill him. It will be a headache if we need to go to Rulersia.”

“Let’s see what can be done.”

With these words as his last, the male student held his sword in a stabbing position and began charging me with a speed conspicuously different from the students in the magic department.

I attempted to fend off the onslaught using magic but,

“Where do you think you’re going?”

The magic I intended to wield was wasted due to the flying ice arrows from behind.

Therefore, my only remaining option was to throw myself to the ground. However,

– Thud!

A binding magic spell that Sirius had somehow cast immobilized my ankles.

I was expecting to be hit by the rapidly approaching sword when Rumi, who had been lying down, threw herself to intercept the male student’s sword.

“This bastard!”

To be precise, she shouldered the sword instead of blocking it.

Rumi, who was now bleeding from her side where the sword had pierced her, was shaking as she shoved the male student away and called out to me.

From noble mtl dot com

“Run… Run away. Let me… Let me be the only one miserable. So…”

The moment I heard that, a wave of rage washed over me.

Whether it was anger from my own helplessness or at the unacceptable things the Tianshin sect were doing, I didn’t know.

What I did know was that it was the kind of anger that would not be forgotten for a lifetime.

My emotion surged but for some reason, it felt as if my mind was becoming calm. I rushed to help but,

“You’re good at fighting. But you’re still at student level, aren’t you?”

The male student easily evaded my attack and proceeded to swing his sword at me.

Thankfully, I managed to avoid the attacks but couldn’t completely escape, moments that left minor injuries scattered over my body.

‘Damn.’

At this rate, Rumi, who had a long cut in her side, would suffer severe after-effects.

Thinking that it would be best to quickly find a solution, I attempted to launch a magical attack at the male student, but

“I told you, you can’t win with just student-level abilities.”

The male student planted his sword into my shoulder, speaking in a mocking tone and avoiding my magic.

“……”

Agonizing pain.

In front of that pain, I clenched my face and suppressed a groan.

‘So what’s left… What can I do?’

If my magic is restrained and close combat makes the level difference glaringly evident, what else can I do?

Even after wracking my brain, no answer comes to mind.

During that time of finding no answer, suddenly one thought crosses my mind.

‘Magic nullification.’

A method to nullify the magic used by Ciris.

Of course, the difference in level was great, so it seemed impossible to nullify her magic by normal means.

‘Thinking about how she couldn’t properly defend when she was surprised or distracted.’

Deciding to put her in such a situation, I slowly opened my mouth.

“…I surrender. I’m going to surrender now.”

At my words, the male student tried to kill me as if my words were not worth listening to.

Ciris heaved a sigh of relief and hastily spoke.

“Let’s stop here, sh*ton.”

“What?”

“I told you. You’re the youngest son of Lerche, aren’t you?”

“… That Lerche bastard.”

Sighing at my surrender, Ciris slowly approached me.

“So, I told you. It’s good if you just obey and join our side.”

Ciris, wearing a mask again, smiled and spoke to me.

“After all, you’re nothing more than a lowly commoner to you, aren’t you? So you don’t need to get hurt to save her. If you like her looks, I’ll get you a separate toy, so don’t worry.”

At those words, I took a deep breath and spoke slowly.

“…Die.”

“What was that? I can’t hear you.”

“Go to hell, bastard!”

In my original way of speaking, not in Darren’s tone.

With that tone, I swing my mace again.

Ciris, surprised by my attack, tried to cast a protection spell.

‘Interference magic.’

As I knew that she would react in this way, I quickly nullified her protection magic.

And then, I smashed my mace into her head.

Thud!

The sound of her head being crushed.

Feeling relieved at that sound, I’m raising the corners of my mouth.

The male student behind me spits out a curse and speaks.

“You, motherf*cker. Just know that you’re going to die.”

At his words, I quickly attempted to use a shield to block them.

“Gag.”

But no magic comes out, just a gagging sound, as if all my mana has been drained due to the spell used earlier.

Feeling screwed in such a situation.

“You’ve worked hard, young master.”

With the voice of the butler, a huge sword from the sky came crashing down.

Boom!

The examination venue was in such a state of devastation that it looked like it had been half destroyed.

I finally accepted that my preparations had worked as expected, and I grumbled,

“…Get here quickly.”

“I’m sorry. Given it’s the academy, there was a lot to handle before coming in, so it took a while.”

“Fine. Get to work.”

“Yes.”

The butler bowed his head politely and gave a curt reply.

“Bring in everyone who is involved.”

With that command, dozens of combat forces descended from the sky, quickly infiltrating the examination venue.
