The World Of Pokemon 2.0

Chapter 2 - Second Day/First Pokemon

"I know I read a lot of those light novels, but experiencing the real thing is so different." The boy was excited about all the things he could accomplish in the world of Pokemon, but in the back of his head, something unnerved him.

[Bulbasaur?] Bulbasaur noticed the changes in the boy's mood and used its vines to make funny faces to cheer him up.

"Heh.." The boy managed a smile, shaking his head as he got up on his feet. "I should worry about that stuff later. I mean, I'm in the world of Pokemon!" He pumped his fist in the air.

[Bulbasaur!!] Bulbasaur didn't quite understand the boy, but it was happy to see him in better spirits.

"Thanks a lot, Bulbasaur. You may not know it yet, but you're looking at a future Pokemon Master." The boy said with a grin as he somehow felt that he should act as a protagonist.

"Oh? does this future Pokemon Master have a name?" A familiar voice said.

"Huh?! " The boy jerked backward from the sudden sound, but he eventually calmed down when he noticed the owner of said sound. "Professor Oak!! " He shouted with excitement as he stared at the old man who looked a bit disheveled with smoke rising from his now afro.

"Eh...what happened to you?"

"Haha! I was studying a trainer's Voltorb, and it got a bit upset with me. Anywho, what is your name?"

"My name it's-" The boy suddenly paused as he was straining to remember his name. 'No way... How can I not remember my own name?!' He didn't want to be suspicious so he chose the first name that popped into his head.

"My name is Eric."

Professor Oak extended his hand, and immediately Eric shook it, "Well, nice to meet you, Eric. My name is Professor Oak, but I guess you already know. Come downstairs. I have some food ready for lunch." He said while walking back downstairs with Eric and Bulbasaur not far behind.

"So, I have to ask, but why were you in the forest without a pokemon? It's dangerous out there, you know?" Professor Oak said as he tried to fix his hair before reaching the living room. "You can go outside Bulbasaur. Thank you for looking after him."

[Bulbasaur~] Bulbasaur smiled as it ran off back to its habitat.

"Take a seat anywhere." Professor Oak said.

The living room was quite cozy and reminded Eric of the one briefly showed in the anime. One huge shelf that took up half the place filled with various books, and a small tv that overlooked the two couches facing each other. In the middle of the couches was a small table, and on top of it was a plate filled with neatly made Japanese rice balls.

"Jelly Don-" Eric stopped himself from finishing the sentence as it was idiotic. 'Oh, English dub,' He thought in his head, chuckling softly to himself.

Professor Oak sat down on one of the couch as Eric sat down on the opposite one. "I don't cook, but luckily one of my friends is nice enough to bring me some. You'll really like them." Professor Oak smiled as he took one to eat.

Eric happily took one, biting into it without a second thought. The rice ball was a bit salty mixed with a fishy taste as there was grilled fish inside of it. He thought it tasted a bit weird, but each bite made him want more until he was already reaching for a second one.

The two happily ate as Professor Oak asked questions, but each time Eric would try to avoid them by asking a question of his own.

********

"Ah~ I'm stuffed..." Eric rubbed his full stomach just as he burped with satisfaction. Professor Oak had left before he finished eating to take care of some tasks.

"Eric, come to my research area." Professor Oak shouted.

"Ok! " Eric quickly got up from the couch and raced towards the research area. He remembered how it looked in the anime, but seeing it firsthand was something entirely different. His eyes shined like stars as he observed the various tech in the room, but the thing that really caught his eye was the Pokeball transfer machine. The machine allowed trainers to send their Pokemon to and back from Professor Oak as apparently, he holds pokemon for every trainer in Pallet Town.

Professor Oak cleared his throat to grab Eric's attention before speaking, "I usually wouldn't do this, but I have understood that you are in a unique situation. So, I took it upon myself to register you as a trainer from Pallet Town. " He smiled, walking over to Eric to hand him a small red device that resembled a smartphone.

"A-ah! Thank you so much!" Eric carefully took the device, holding it as if it was a child. "My own real Pokedex!"

Eric heard the computer voice inside of his head again, but this time he could also see a bright blue screen in front of his eyes. He was a bit scared of it, but it would go away once he willed it to disappear.

"The Pokedex doubles as your identification and your wallet. So, never lose it, ok? I also took the liberty of placing some money in the account. "

Eric opened the Pokedex, and almost immediately, he heard the familiar chime noise.

"Oh, and one more thing. I saw that you didn't have a bag, and I rummaged around to find one that you may like." Professor Oak said as he walked over to a nearby desk, grabbing hold of a very stylish blue backpack with a Pokeball symbol on the front of it.

"Professor... Are you sure about giving me all of these... I mean I-"

"I'll stop you right there, young man." Professor Oak said, shaking his head with a knowing smile. "I've been all around the world and experienced many things in my lifetime. I assure you that I am thinking straight, and besides, why would I not help a future Pokemon Master?" He said with a huge grin.

Eric didn't know when it started, but genuine tears were dripping down his face. He was never good at lying, and so he tried to answer as few as he could about his circ.u.mstances. Professor Oak took this as a sign and decided to help Eric out of the goodness of his heart.

Eric really wanted to hug the man, but he thought it would be inappropriate.

"I have a grandson named Gary and a promising young trainer by the name of Ash, who set off on their journey before you. You should try to be friends with them." Professor Oak patted Eric's shoulder and handed over the bag.

Eric ignored the alert and simply nodded his head after Professor Oak's words. "I'll do that, and just you wait. I'll be a great Pokemon Master!" He shouted as he wiped his tears away.

"I'll look forward to seeing that. Now off you go."

And so Eric left Professor Oak's lab after a few more words and took his first steps into an exciting journey. He had so many questions, but now he wanted, for now, he wanted to live out one of his child's life dreams.

However, he quickly reached a roadblock as the first Pokemon wanted to beat him up.

[Pikachuuuu!!] Pikachu shouted after it was released from it's Pokeball, and immediately started to attack Eric.

"Why couldn't I get Bulbasaur?!" Eric shouted as he dodged Pikachu's Thundershock.

--Back at Oak's Lab---

[Bulba?] Bulbasaur looked up at the sky and scratched its head with one of its vines.
