Chapter 71: Quarrel

When she heard that her daughter had an incident, Lu Zhiqiao suddenly lost her doze and sat up from the sofa: "What happened?"

Because of the excitement, her voice involuntarily became louder. She subconsciously looked at the person in the room, got up and walked to the window, and covered her mouth with her hand: "Okay, why would she fight with her classmates?"

"I can't say it in a few words, come over here first in the teaching office on the first floor of the administrative building." Qi Yan sighed.

Lu Zhiqiao closed her eyes, hurriedly answered okay, and hung up the phone. She glanced at the room, and saw Shu Minxi was fast asleep, she went in lightly, pulled the thin quilt over the person, turned around and went out, closing the door behind her.

She went downstairs to explain a few words to the maid, then called Wen Zilong, and truthfully said that her daughter had something to do at school and asked him to come over as soon as possible.

….

Ninghu is relatively far from the Junior High School Affiliated to Jiangda University, and it takes half an hour to drive without stopping.

When it comes to her daughter, Lu Zhiqiao can never be calm, her first thought is that her child may have been bullied, so she fought back, and one after another turned into a fight. No matter what, she does not believe that her daughter will take the initiative to hit her classmates.

Realizing this, she became even more anxious, and a manic mood surged up, sweating all over her palms as she grabbed the steering wheel and slid.

When she was passing through the city, there were a lot of cars, and in order to avoid a car that was forcing her to stop, she didn't steer and almost rushed into the green belt. Fortunately, she was able to step on the brakes just in time, she stopped by the roadside with her heart beating wildly. She took a deep breath, and before she had time to see the owner of the car, she looked up and saw a sign prohibiting long-term parking so she hurriedly continued to drive forward.

She was full of thoughts about her daughter being bullied, maybe even injured, and in her heart, she strongly hoped that Qi Yan could speak for her child.

But soon, she dismissed this idea-- she couldn't make things difficult for Qi Yan.

….

The campus is full of books.

Lu Zhiqiao rushed to the teaching office, followed by other parents. There were five girls standing in a row in the office. The tallest one was very beautiful, with deep set eyes, a tall and delicate nose, and snow-white skin, like a doll.

She stared at the girl for two seconds, unable to move her eyes away, and turned her head for a moment to see her daughter next to her.

Among the five little girls, three were injured, their faces were swollen, their hair was loose, and their foreheads bruised. They were all minor injuries, but all of them had tears in their eyes and looked very embarrassed. And the other two who were not injured, are Niu Niu and the "doll"...

The "doll" had her hands in her pockets, her chin slightly raised, her dark blue eyes filled with contempt and disdain, and she looked arrogantly confident. Niu Niu was next to her, with her hands behind her back, her head slightly lowered, and her mouth tightly pressed.

But when she saw Lu Zhiqiao, her stubborn little eyes froze instantly, showing timidity.

"Young girl..." Lu Zhiqiao walked up to her daughter, checked up and down, and was relieved that she is not injured.

"Qianqian, oh, what's going on? Who hit you? How did you get beaten like this?"

One girl's father yelled as soon as he entered the door, and the parents of the other two girls also yelled.

Only the parents of the  "doll" did not come.

The teaching director sat behind the desk, looking at them coldly, while Qi Yan stood beside the other teacher, the former was helpless and the latter was annoyed. Obviously, they're not in the same class of students.

The "doll" is called Yan Shuyao, and she and the other three girls are all in the second year class 5 of junior high school, and their relationship has always been very good. After meeting Lu Wei, a first year, they hangout together for a while, and the three gradually discovered that the freshman is rich and generous, so they often found various excuses to take advantage of her.

At first Lu Wei was foolish, thinking that friends shouldn't care so much, anyway, they were just gadgets and snacks, she didn't care, and gave them away generously.

Later, the three of them got worse, Yan Shuyao sensed that something was wrong, and due to her friend's shamelessness, she directly spoke up and half-jokingly stopped them a few times.

At noon today, the three girls asked Lu Wei to treat them to eat outside. Yan Shuyao said they would eat in the cafeteria, but the three refused, and coerced Lu Wei to go out. Lu Wei didn't want to, and they became unhappy. At first they said a few barbed words, and then it turned more and more ugly and sarcastic. Yan Shuyao argued with them, and the argument turned to shoving and eventually to a full blown fight.

Her upperclassman stood up for her, how can Lu Wei bear it? The bullying got to the top, and she couldn't bear it even more, so she joined in all at once, and the fight turned into a two against three.

The two of them were fine, but their hair was caught and loose, while the three were beaten hard.

The friends eventually stopped.

Looking at the surveillance video, at first the five people were walking in the middle of the road, Yan Shuyao left for the bathroom, then the three blocked Lu Wei into a corner and said something, but judging from the screen, it really looked like a threat.  Then Yan Shuyao came back, and they stood together and exchanged a few words. Among them, the thin girl stretched out her hand and grabbed the corner of Lu Wei's clothes. Yan Shuyao opened her hand, and they pushed and fought.

It is difficult to determine who made the first move.

But after all, those three people were injured, and one or two of the parents felt distressed, and they were noisy in the office.

"Isn't it normal for children to argue? But it's wrong to hit someone. Look at my daughter's face, what should I do with such a heavy hand? They must apologize and pay compensation!" said the father.

Another seemingly gentle middle-aged woman said: "My child is very obedient at home. How can she force a classmate to treat her to a meal? Just looking at the surveillance footage without any sound, it can't tell if they are not lying."

Qi Yan's head grew dizzy from listening.

This matter had nothing to do with Niu Niu at first, but who knows what kind of loyalty the little girl is foolishly talking about, and she goes to help fight, so that as long as she makes a move, anything reasonable becomes unreasonable.

It's difficult to deal with students who are not from her own class. Teacher Liu, the homeroom teacher for 2nd year Class 5 is very irritable. Although she didn't embarrass her, when she lectured the girls in Class 5 just now, she listened to her and felt like she was being slapped in the face. The children in both classes are at fault, she is not good at favoring her own students.

What's more, they happened to be caught by the teaching director when they were fighting, it can no longer be settled privately, and perhaps be subjected to disciplinary action.

"Since you think my daughter is lying, please explain to me why your children are trying to block my daughter in a corner? The surveillance footage captured them clearly, and they were walking in the middle of the road." Lu Zhiqiao replied coldly,  holding her daughter in her arms to protect her.

It was clearly campus bullying on the screen, which made her angry and distressed. She has always taught her daughter not to take the initiative to cause trouble at school, but she should not be afraid of trouble. If she is bullied, she should bully back, and she will bear the consequences.

Her daughter is in self-defense, and has been wronged first. So she must support her child in this situation

The gentle middle-aged woman fell silent for a moment.

The father was very irritable, pointing a finger, and said angrily: "You can't hit people, you can tell the teacher or argue back, ignore, whatever, but you can't hit people, understand?"

The middle-aged man was tall with a rough voice and a very imposing manner.

Lu Wei shrank behind her mother in fright.

"Didn't you see the surveillance? It was your daughter who started to touch mine first." Lu Zhiqiao said not to be outdone, her cold brows revealed a bit of sharpness, like an enraged lioness.

"That's not..."

"What's the fuss about?!" Yan Shuyao, who had been silent for a long time, took a step forward with her hand in her pocket, raised her chin, glanced at the three students contemptuously, and snorted coldly with her straight nose: "I beat them, so what? It’s not pleasing to see you guys who eat and drink for nothing! Save their faces? Don't be fooled too much. They will not be satisfied, and give it another try."

"Yan Shuyao!" Teacher Liu shouted.

The girl's slender eyelashes were like wings, she glanced lazily at the teacher, her dark blue eyes rolled around, and she pouted.

At the age of thirteen or fourteen, the profile of her face is like a perfect sculpture. It is stunningly beautiful, but also slightly mature. She  looks like a mixed race at a close distance--a beautiful person, pleasing to the eye even if she loses her temper.

This is also a child who gives teachers a headache. She does things her own way, like a wild and unruly horse, but her grades are very good.  Her parents are very busy, they can't get through the phone, and they have sent messages on WeChat earlier, and they have not seen anyone until now.

Lu Zhiqiao's words had already made the three parents feel wronged, but unexpectedly, the child's arrogant attitude directly angered the parents.

The other two mothers were so angry that they pointed at her, speechless.

"Aren't you so arrogant at such a young age? Where are your parents? Have they come yet?" The furious father made a gesture and was about to step forward.

Teacher Liu hurriedly went to pull Yan Shuyao away, and gave her a look: "What's with your attitude? You're saying it's reasonable to beat someone..."

The whole office was full of turmoil. Seeing Teacher Liu reprimanding her student, Qi Yan couldn't just sit on the sidelines, at least she had to save face. She looked at her daughter and frowned, "Lu Wei, it's wrong to hit people, you know that, right? Apologize immediately."

The moment the words came out of her mouth, Lu Zhiqiao's eyes widened in astonishment, and she looked at Qi Yan in disbelief.

It became clear that it was Niu Niu who was bullied first and then fought back, and it was not Niu Niu who struck first. The child did nothing wrong, why apologize? She knew that Qi Yan is a teacher, so she was caught in the middle of a dilemma, she isn't expecting her to stand up for her daughter, but this didn't mean that Qi Yan could be unreasonable.

When encountering campus bullying, if parents and teachers do not handle it properly, it is easy to leave a psychological shadow on the child.  She wanted her daughter to know that she had done nothing wrong and that it was right to resist, but if she apologized, it would mean admitting an unwarranted mistake.

If she is bullied again in the future, should she resist or accept it?

This woman—

Qi Yan frowned slightly, looking down at her daughter, with a hint of helplessness hidden deep in her eyes. She naturally felt the sight of a person around her, like fire, about to burn through her face.

Her heart turned bitter, she didn't dare to look up at Lu Zhiqiao, she could only pray that the other party understood her and believed her.

Everything will be explained later.

"Qi..." Lu Zhiqiao was about to speak, but was held back by her daughter.

Lu Wei looked at her mother and then at the teacher. The stubbornness just now had long since disappeared from her eyes. She was afraid that the two of them would quarrel here, so she hurriedly turned her head and apologized to her three seniors, "I'm sorry."

Yan Shuyao stared straight at her.

"It's not enough to just apologize, you have to pay compensation!" said the irritable father.

Lu Wei took half a step back.

Lu Zhiqiao frowned, and as soon as she opened her mouth, Yan Shuyao quickly took out a wallet from her pocket, opened it, took out a few pink banknotes*, threw them on the ground, and said through gritted teeth: "Buy some good medicine and wipe it on, be careful not to ruin your appearance!"

*100 yuan, approx 14-15 usd, highest denomination in Chinese currency

After finishing speaking, she grabbed Lu Wei's wrist and dragged her out.

Everyone was stunned.

Lu Zhiqiao came to her senses and hurriedly chased after her.

….

The sun gradually slanted to the west, elongating the shadows of the two little girls.

"Baby!"

Lu Zhiqiao chased out of the administrative building and called to stop her daughter. The two figures in front stopped and turned their heads together. She stepped forward quickly, held her daughter's hand, glanced at Yan Shuyao, nodded slightly, and said nothing.

Lu Wei hung her head and said nothing.

"Auntie—" Yan Shuyao called her crisply, looked sideways at Lu Wei, and then turned back. "This matter has nothing to do with Lu Wei, she is the victim."

"Those three people originally hang out with me, and I am too aware of their virtues. I usually treat them to eat and drink. They are used to taking advantage of others and don't give a penny by themselves. Just because I have many friends around me and we are all together, I didn't really care about it. But this time, they really went too far. How can I say it? They have a sense of superiority, thinking that they are in second year and she is a first year, so they put on airs."

"I wanted to fight them a long time ago. But I accidentally got Lu Wei involved. I'm really sorry. Please don't scold her."

The girl spoke neither humble nor overbearing, she was generous, her eyes looked very sincere and she was completely different from the rebellious girl in the teaching office earlier.

Looking closely, the child's bones and facial features are in excellent proportions, her height is almost the same as that of Lu Zhiqiao, her dark blue eyes seem to be wearing colored contact lenses, bright and energetic, her hair is chestnut, slightly curly, and completely unlike other junior high school students.

Lu Zhiqiao was confused and didn't know what to say, so she just nodded and smiled at her.

The bell rang to signal the third period, the time for the first and second year classes to end.

The silent campus suddenly went abuzz.

"Then auntie, I'll go first." Yan Shuyao smiled, patted Lu Zhiqiao on the shoulder, winked, turned and walked towards the teaching building.

Lu Wei smirked.

Lu Zhiqiao sighed, and caressed her daughter's face with the palm of her hand, "Let's go, girl, go up and get your school bag, let's go home."

In summer, the days are long, and the sky is still bright even after five o'clock. The setting sun dyed the clouds in the sky red, casting a hazy glow.

Qi Yan drove into the basement of the complex, saw a black car parked next to her parking space from a distance. Her heart tightened suddenly, and she took a breath. She stopped the car, closed and locked the door, took the elevator upstairs, stared at the changing numbers floor by floor and the anxious feeling became more and more clear.

--ding

On the ninth floor, she came out, walked slowly to 901, and knocked on the door.

It was Lu Zhiqiao who opened the door, that indifferent face appeared in sight and their eyes met, Qi Yan stepped in and held her hand. And in the next second, it was thrown away forcefully.  Lu Zhiqiao turned around and walked to the dining table, and poured herself a glass of water.

Qi Yan lowered her eyes silently, changed her shoes, put down her bag, and walked over to hug her.

"Do not be angry."

"Mm?"

"Let go." Lu Zhiqiao said coldly. She was still angry and wanted to calm down on her own, but this person came to her door, upon seeing her it reminded her of the scene in the office.

Qi Yan didn't move, but hugged her even tighter, and moved her lips to kiss her face.

This week was busy, and the two of them didn't have a good conversation. The scene on her birthday night was still vivid in her memory. She urgently needed some warmth to soothe her stiff heart. But troubles came one after another. Now she doesn't have any thoughts about ***, but only thinks about explaining.

Lu Zhiqiao frowned, turned her head to avoid it, and then pushed her away.

The force was so great that Qi Yan was unprepared and was pushed to stumble back, and hit the cabinet. She took a deep breath, brushed her hair, and said helplessly: "Whoever takes action is at fault. I know that Niu Niu has been wronged, but it is really wrong to hit someone, and I am also very embarrassed."

"I taught her."

"What?"

Lu Zhiqiao stared at the wall and said softly, "I told her that if she is bullied, she should fight back.

But in the end, the other party didn't take any action. Originally, our side was rational, but as a result——

"Didn't you also watch the surveillance? Niu Niu is cornered! If that girl didn't come over in time, it wouldn't be a gang fight, and my daughter would be the one beaten up. Do you understand?" Lu Zhiqiao suddenly became emotional, put down the cup heavily, turned to stare at Qi Yan, and interrupted sharply.

"..."

"If it really happened, what's the use of you talking about these great principles?"

"Calm down, Qiao Qiao." Qi Yan tried to reach out to hug her.

Lu Zhiqiao frowned and slapped her hand away, her eyes turned red, "How do you want me to calm down? Niu Niu was bullied like that, she can't resist, right? She didn't do anything wrong, why did you want her to apologize?"

"I'm thinking about Niu Niu..."

"I didn't ask you to think about her! I know that you are a teacher,  a homeroom teacher, and you need to save face. You were in a difficult position, so I didn't want you to do anything, but I stand as a mother to protect my daughter. You just don't come here to tell me what to do! Just be her teacher!" Lu Zhiqiao growled hoarsely, and the anger in her heart added fuel, and the fire burned even more.

Is this person here to anger her?

It's difficult to say, she understands, it's fine in the office, after all, there are so many people, and they give each other some face. But when they got home, there were only the two of them, and she still said such things to anger her.

Emotions are like this, the more excited you are, the easier it is to go to extremes and get into a dead end.

"You are not the child's own mother, of course you don't feel distressed, and you can't understand that feeling. In this case, please stop making nonsense remarks!"

"I said nonsense?" Qi Yan pointed at herself, looking at her incredulously, "How was I being nonsensical? Those parents are arguing in the office, what can I do? They're not students in the same class, and their teacher is also watching, what else can I do? So you think I was saying nonsense?"

Lu Zhiqiao turned her face away, pursed her lips and remained silent.

"You didn't trust me at all, did you? Your mouth always says 'teacher this, teacher that', yes, I am a teacher, and being a teacher is the original sin, and I have to be scolded at both ends."

Qi Yan sneered.

In the past, Lu Zhiqiao always used her identity as a teacher to hold her down, talking about her at every turn. After so many days, she thought that the woman finally understood her. Understood, and connected with each other, but she was just being conceited.

She's afraid, this woman has never really cared about her feelings from the bottom of her heart.

She just felt ridiculous and sad.

Lu Zhiqiao's eyebrows tightened tighter and her heart suddenly spread a dense sense of suffocation. She gritted her teeth and said, "I'll teach my own daughter myself, and you don't have to meddle in our affairs."

As soon as the words fell, Qi Yan's figure shook, and her eyes slowly opened wide.

The wall clock ticked away, and there was silence all around. The sound rippled in circles like waves, piercing into Qi Yan's eardrums. For a moment, the buzzing was loud, and she felt pain.

Lu Zhiqiao's profile was reflected in her brown pupils, the lines were cold, hard, and very unfamiliar

After a long time, Qi Yan sneered.

"Yeah, I'm nosy, I've always been an outsider in your eyes, a spare tire, a call to arms."

Lu Zhiqiao pursed her lips, her palms squeezing her clothes tightly, and sneered suddenly.

The breath she was holding turned into a smile, maybe because of helplessness, or sadness, or bitterness. But in Qi Yan's ears and eyes, it represents sarcasm, contempt, and the real thoughts hidden deep inside Lu Zhiqiao's heart.

It's her default.

Qi Yan took a deep breath, her nails tightly clenched against her palms, her eyes turned red, and the mist of water filled her with despair. "In your heart, the child is always first, what am I? You can give up on me anytime, I'm a piece of shit.

Tears flowed down her cheeks, drawing two transparent tear marks.

"Don't worry, I won't be nosy in the future."

Qi Yan finished speaking with a sob, shook her head, picked up her bag, turned and left resolutely.
