37 – Unspeakably Ugly

The two started having lunch. While they chatted, Scarlett pulled Isaac’s hand, examined it, and found calluses on his palm.

“Look at the calluses.”

“Isn’t it cool?”

“What’s cool?”

“The signs of labour are finally here. I haven’t worked all my life.”

The young man rejoiced, and he touched Scarlett’s fingertips, which were tattered. After all, her line of work involved doing delicate craftsmanship.

He brushed his fingers over the roughness of her hand and smiled. “Your hands are nice too.”

“Well, I guess so,” Scarlett muttered.

Isaac pulled a box out of his coat pocket.

“Oh, and this is a gift.”

“What?” Scarlett opened the box and found earrings with butterfly ornaments made of thin silver.

“What are you buying this for?” Scarlett spoke in surprise.

“Mmm… When I got paid, I wanted to buy your present first.”

Scarlett took out the earrings Isaac had given her and placed them in her palm. She stared at them for a while.

“So pretty…”

“Is it? Thank God.”

The young man relied on his hand and senses when choosing, so he was nervous until Scarlett’s reaction came out.

Scarlett put them on her ear; she felt strange. Isaac, who had always been in her care, had gifted her something precious.

“You really didn’t have to.”

“Why? It suits you.”

Isaac tilted his head so Scarlett had no choice but to reply with a smile. “Yes. of course.”

After saying that, Scarlett didn’t say anything for a while, and Isaac asked.

“What’s going on?”

“Hm? Oh, no, no.”

“Tell me.” Scarlett laughed loudly at Isaac’s worried voice.

“It’s nothing, really.”

If Isaac found out that she drew the blueprint for the aeroplane, he would get entangled in this as well.

Scarlett cut the bread, folded a square piece of paper and held it out, making it easy to hold. As Isaac ate the bread, Scarlett asked.

“Are you still wearing bandages over your eyes?”

“Oh? Yes. I got used to it, and I was worried that other people might be surprised when they see my eyes.”

“Why, it’s okay.” As Scarlett spoke and touched the bandage, the young man turned his head in surprise.

Isaac had never dodged Scarlett’s hand. It made her upset, but she soon smiled nonchalantly.

“Okay. You can leave it on if you don’t like it.” She smiled.

“I’m sorry.”

“What are you sorry for?” Scarlett replied – she knew he hadn’t meant it.

After their bandage conversation, the two ate and talked about exciting things in their daily lives. Then, finally, Scarlett said she had business to go to, beyond the lake, so she needed to leave.

After letting Scarlett go, the young man covered his eyes with his hand. Then Carol, the manager of the raft, came running.

“Young master! Do your eyes hurt again?”

His face was an important attraction in inviting an enormous number of guests to the raft. For the owner of this raft, it was like rolling jewels.

Isaac smiled and shook his head. “It’s okay. It’s not like I’m sick.”

“If your eyes hurt again, tell me right away. Your condition is the most important thing in our raft business.”

“To that extent….”

“That’s for sure. You can’t see your face, so you won’t believe me, no matter how handsome you are.”

One day after using the medicine Scarlett had brought, he felt searing pain inside the bandage. Judging by what Carol had seen once and was sullen, it looked unspeakably ugly.

So, he could never take the bandages off in front of Scarlett. It didn’t matter if I had to wear a bandage for the rest of his life. It was easy as long as it didn’t break Scarlett’s heart.

Today the naval mission was a bit noisy. It was because Viktor’s retired subordinate, Nicholas, had been visiting. The Navy greeted him cheerfully.

“Hey, Nico. What was the name of the ice cream shop?”

“Oh, how many times have I asked? It’s a navy man’s ice cream shop.” At that, the Navy burst into laughter again.

Nicholas, who raised the atmosphere of communion, stood in front of the captain’s office. In the Army, the Commander-In-Chief was the sovereign, and it was the same for the Navy. The Chief of Naval Staff was the current Crown Prince Adam Irene, but it was an honorary post, and Viktor Dumbelt, the commander of the largest Salantier ship, the Rubied, effectively led the Navy.

He had been serving him for a long time, and even though he had already retired, Nicholas was very uncomfortable with Viktor. Besides, he brought ice cream to a man who grew up eating all kinds of delicacies.

“Hey, I’m crazy.” As Nicholas spoke to himself, Blight, who stood in front of the door, grinned.

“You will like it.”

After comforting him, Blight knocked and said. “Sir Nicholas is here.”

After reporting, Blight opened the door, greeted, and left. Nicholas smiled awkwardly and held up a bucket of ice cream.
