Chapter 66: Two Packs of Hot Soy Milk

Recently, Zhou Mushi has been living a comfortable life. Not only is he proficient in his work, but his small leisure activities outside of work are also very sweet.

He occasionally takes some time with Jin Yang to visit the supermarket and buy fresh vegetables and fruits.

In the past, he was not fond of visiting supermarkets, always relying on phone apps to make purchases, even buying a single screw had to be done through online shopping.

Now that he has someone to accompany him and walk through various shops, he realized that it wasn’t that he didn’t like going out to shop, but rather that it felt lonely and desolate when he was alone.

It has been raining since he woke up today. The rain has been light and gentle, but it hasn’t stopped at all.

The two of them held up a blue, non-foldable, typhoon-resistant umbrella and went out together.

They knew it was going to rain while they were at home, so they dug out even their already packed woolen coats and wore them thickly over their suit jackets.

But it still couldn’t stop the wind blowing heavily onto their bodies, and the rain, although light, was accompanied by a slightly damp and cool feeling that hit their bare skin.

Zhou Mushi felt some regret, and cursed himself for not wearing a down jacket, preferably one that covered him from head to toe.

After they left the residential area, Jin Yang walked into a convenience store with his umbrella still up.

The two of them had already eaten breakfast, and Zhou Mushi didn’t know what Jin Yang was going to buy, but he followed him into the convenience store.

Jin Yang bought two packets of hot soy milk in bags and, when he got to the checkout, took a grape-flavored lollipop from a box on the side.

After they left the supermarket, he stuffed the two packets of hot soy milk, one on the left and one on the right, into Zhou Mushi’s pockets.

Zhou Mushi walked steadily with one foot in front of the other, holding onto his pockets and expressionless, making his way to the office.

Who could have imagined that the imposing president, who looked like he meant business, was holding two packets of soy milk to warm his hands and had half a lollipop in his mouth?

If you were to ask why it was only half a lollipop instead of a whole one, it was because the other half was pinned in a corner where no one was around, and someone had taken it with their tongue and teeth.

Today, Director Jin had a faint fragrance, and his female colleagues suspected that he was wearing some kind of special fruity perfume.

But in fact, it was all thanks to that half of a lollipop, although Director Jin probably shouldn’t be eating lollipops.

In the morning, Jin Yang had a meeting with colleagues from the marketing department and was busy all day. In the afternoon, Zhou Mushi wanted to ask him to have lunch together. He found a restaurant that was not far from the office and had a few dishes he had been thinking about. It was a rainy afternoon, perfect for having a hotpot.

He had originally planned to send a WeChat message to him, but as soon as he picked up his phone, another colleague came to discuss some work with him. This delay caused half an hour to pass after the end of the workday.

When he picked up his phone again, he received a WeChat message from Jin Yang twenty minutes ago. He said he had to go back to the orphanage today and asked him to go home after work.

Zhou Mushi felt a little regretful. He smacked his lips a few times and savored the taste of the hotpot.

He had to let his colleagues go first and continued to work on some tasks. When all the work was done, there were only a few people left in the company.

After drinking the two packs of soy milk he had in the morning, Zhou Mushi walked out of the company’s door and saw a lady hovering around the entrance.

She was obviously of a certain age, but well-maintained, with a figure that had not deteriorated at all. She had a melon seed face, single eyelids, and a unique mature and intellectual beauty.

The lady was wearing a little dress that Zhou Mushi remembered seeing in a magazine, probably a new style from a famous brand.

Most women in their twenties are beautiful, with the best foundation and youthfulness. Even if their looks aren’t that great, the richness and liveliness of their age won’t make them look too bad.

Women in their thirties have many charming qualities, and are often better than those in their twenties.

But forty is a watershed. Most people are worn out by the trivialities of life with children and elderly parents, while a small minority of fortunate wives can cultivate an air of elegance and grace.

Zhou Mushi looked around and began to wonder which family in their company had such a lady as their wife.

He was familiar with the wives of several shareholders, but this lady was not one of them. As for the managers and directors, even if they could afford to buy such an outfit for this lady with one or two months’ salary, they might not be able to sustain it for long.

He turned to look at a few grassroots employees who were still working overtime. It was unlikely that they were her relatives.

After adjusting his clothes, he opened the glass door and politely asked, “Hello, can I help you find someone?”

As she turned around, the pearl earring on her ear shone with a faint light under the corridor lights, not too dazzling but elegant and gentle.

The person was a bit nervous, but seeing the young man’s modest demeanor before meeting, she mustered up the courage to ask, “Hi, I would like to ask if you have a staff member named Jin Yang here?”

After hearing the name Jin Yang, Zhou Mushi narrowed his eyes and quickly made a judgment about the woman in front of him.

Judging from her age, it was unlikely that she had any romantic involvement with Jin Yang, and she was too young to be his mother. At an ambiguous age, what could her relationship with Jin Yang be?

If this lady didn’t take good care of herself and wasn’t dressed so elegantly, Zhou Mushi might have thought she was the owner of the flower shop.

Still wearing a polite smile, Zhou Mushi became docile and considerate because the woman in front of him was unlikely to be his competitor. She had no attack power and wasn’t as annoying as Linda when she was in his eyes.

“May I ask what business you have with Jin Yang? He has already finished work today, but if it’s urgent, I can help you contact him.”

The young man in front of her was gentle and considerate. The woman rubbed her fingers, and her meticulously maintained nails slowly ran across her fingertips. She pursed her lips, and a hint of disappointment and unease flashed in her eyes.

“If possible, can I ask you for his contact information?” she asked tentatively.

Zhou Mushi’s brow furrowed slightly, but his smile remained polite and restrained.

“Without his permission, that doesn’t seem appropriate.”

The woman nodded, not insistent, and smiled apologetically. “I understand. I’m sorry for being presumptuous just now.”

She walked slowly towards the end of the corridor, and Zhou Mushi seemed to hear a light sigh, or maybe he didn’t hear anything at all.
