Chapter 8: More Bitterness than Sweetness

At 2 a.m., Zhou Mushi frantically downloaded all the job-seeking apps and registered on each of them one by one. He compared them from different angles and checked out the information on part-time jobs for college students.

The result was far from satisfactory.

Zhou Mushi was used to being extravagant, having been surrounded by wealth since childhood. He was accustomed to wearing expensive clothes and being surrounded by piles of money.

He had never had a good understanding of money, and never thought that it was hard to earn. He would pick up a piece of clothing worth tens of thousands of yuan without hesitation. Later on, after following Jin Yang, he naturally realized that Jin Yang’s family background could not compare to his own, so he became more careful with his spending. However, in the end, Jin Yang had not caused him any hardship, and his clothing and food still maintained a moderate level.

Now, seeing these part-time job information, he realized that even if he worked hard for a month, he might not earn enough money to buy half a phone. Zhou Mushi felt dejected and slumped on the bed.

Wait, his phone!

He used to be a big fan of Apple and would switch to a new model every time it was released. He also took good care of his phones and replaced them every six months. The phones that were replaced after a short period of use were still in the drawer in his dormitory. If he sold them, he should be able to get some good money.

At least selling the phones would be faster and more profitable than going to work.

Thinking of this, he also recalled his habit of abandoning expensive laptops and tablets that he quickly grew tired of. Hmm… and a few Hermès bags, too. Maybe he could sell those as well?

Zhou Mushi sat up on the bed, regretting that he didn’t have a pen and paper to list his assets.

He planned to sell these things first. At least it would be enough for him to survive for a while. If he lived frugally, he might be able to last until graduation. And if he tightened his belt, perhaps he could make it work!

Actually, always asking for money from Jin Yang was not a good thing, after all, they don’t have a father-son relationship.

At 3 a.m., Zhou Mushi was wide awake, counting sheep with his eyes closed while his phone’s music played on the automatic setting for twenty minutes before turning off. Now that it had finished playing, he was still wide awake.

This extreme state of excitement made him wonder if he had taken drugs.

The familiar sensation of blood constantly draining from his body was terrifying, as if he were overdrawing his life force. It felt like every extra hour he spent awake was one less hour of his life, and it was truly frightening.

At this moment, Jin Yang had just sent off a group of well-fed ancestors by arranging taxis for each one of them. He returned to the room, dragging his exhausted body, facing a room full of messy dishes and the lingering smell of alcohol and meat that couldn’t be dispelled.

Fortunately, Mushi was not present, otherwise if he heard about the bragging that went on at this filthy banquet, Jin Yang couldn’t bear to imagine how he would react.

It was very late, and in the dark curtain, not even a trace of moonlight could be seen. Jin Yang dimmed the lights in the room and began cleaning up the cups and plates, throwing them into the sink.

The dense foam of dishwashing liquid stuck to the oily white plates, and Jin Yang felt a bit drunk, but more tired. He could hardly stand, so he simply brought over a chair and slowly cleaned everything, dried it all, and then put it away in the cupboard.

He opened to let the smell dissipate, but the gust of wind chilled his chest.

In this life, there is more bitterness than sweetness, but he was used to enduring hardship, and there was nothing he couldn’t handle.

The candy that was finally within his grasp couldn’t be easily let go once he had it in his hands.
