Time Traveling Hero

Chapter 56 - Hiro’s Hero Triumphs PT.17: Triumphs of Old: One Last Stand

**51st Generation Hero, 600 Years Ago**

-------------------

"Oi, Hero, do something already!"

"Just five more minutes…"

"We're literally surrounded and about to die, and that's all you can say!?"

I lazily opened one eye to see my best bud next to me, a frantic look on his face. "What's the problem man? Can't you see I'm trying to nap?" I let out a toothy yawn, closing my eye.

"I know how much you like to nap, but c'mon man! Not even you can sleep through this racket!"

I opened up one eye again, sighing. "Seriously Josh? You underestimate my capabilities of sleeping anywhere."

He rolled his eyes. "You would sleep through your own death, I know—wait a second, that's not the-!"

There was a loud boom that jolted my entire body, causing me to involuntarily sit up and groan. "What was that?"

"I've been trying to tell you that we're about to die!" Josh yelled out, and it was only then that I finally opened both my eyes, viewing the carnage all around us.

Most of our excursion squad of 500 were already wiped out, blood causing the sand to harden beneath us. Out of the 500, including Josh and myself, there were only a measly 10 left.

I heard a ferocious roar, and in the distance I could see a minotaur roaring out in glee, his forces having almost taken us over.

"Damnit, there's no end to these monsters!" One of the remaining soldiers yelled out, throwing out what looked like to be his last energy grenade. "I thought this would've been a routine time loop extermination, nothing like this!"

"Wow, looks like you guys are in a pickle," I said, letting out another yawn.

"This concerns you too man!" Josh yelled out, and I could see him frantically messing with his long black hair, freaking out to himself.

I always got amused when he did that.

I heard a scream, and watched as one of the men in our circle got dragged away, leaving only 7 defending the circle. "Oh yeah, this really does look bad. You guys got it, right?"

"Damn this hero!" One of the guys yelled out, shooting out the last rounds in his energy gun before tossing it away. "Completely useless! We wouldn't even be in this mess if he didn't decide to take a nap out in the middle of a battlefield!"

I yawned again, shrugging. "Sorry, I just got really sleepy. You could've carried me if it was that much of a pain."

"You're forgetting none of us can even carry that with us!" I watched the guy pull out an energy pistol and pop a harpy in the face as it was flying towards us. .

"Oh yeah, I forgot…" I glanced towards my weapon of choice, which was laying down next to me. It was a huge, black, double-sided axe, with a green gem inlaid into the cheek (the axe was even bigger than me). "My bad."

"Enough about this, do something before it's too late!" Josh yelled out. "I know you can sleep through your own death and not give a damn, but I'd rather not die today! So if you really need a reason, do it for me!" I watched Josh plug the hole as the small group continued to hold off the onslaught of monsters.

At the very least, life would be more boring without him around.

I sighed. Damn, this is a pain in the fuċkɨnġ ȧss. I closed my eyes, looking as I saw everything glow around me.

Fuck, I really do gotta kill them all. Uh, how much might that be? 31,000? Ugh, how long might that take me?

"Now I'm starting to get angry," I muttered, getting to my feet, grabbing the handle of the axe, letting it drag behind me as I walked over to Josh, tapping him on the shoulder.

"Eh!? What is it, I'm kinda busy here!" I watched him slice down a lion with an energy sword before he glanced at me. "Woah, what's up?"

"I'm pissed, that's why." I slung the axe over my shoulder, sighing. "Give me 10 minutes."

I landed in front of the leader, a giant black minotaur wielding an axe similar to mine. He snarled at me, gearing up to fight.

"You know something? I really hate this job. My Hero factor just had to be a 51, meaning I was just bȧrėly eligible, and I just had to have completed all the trials with ease, coasting by through my tribulations, which is what led me to this point, my first Triumph."

"All because I was just bȧrėly eligible, and the last Hero took a liking to me. Damn that Caeneus." I stopped the Minotaur's axe swing with a single hand, glaring up at the his beady black eyes as he roared at me.

"I just wanted to sleep my life away man, since this damn ability makes me tired all the time." I glanced at my watch, the timer just about to start.

"But you know what makes me even more pissed than that?" I gripped the minotaur's axe even tighter, the metal starting to crack.

Its axe shattered, causing the Minotaur to tremble in fear, as my timer started with a high-pitched beep.

"WHEN MY DAMN NAPS GET DISTURBED BY BULLSHIT SUCH AS THIS!"

The minotaur didn't even stand a chance, my axe already having cleaved its way through its body, the rancid purple blood covering me and my axe.

1 down, 30,999 to go.

Yeah, this pace should be good.

Using my momentum, I swung the axe upwards, slamming it into the hardened desert floor, ripping it asunder to create a massive crevice, causing the monsters to fall to their deaths.

I felt something manage to stab me, and I stiffened up, looking at the small dagger wound a goblin managed to inflict on me.

"Huh? Are you stupid!?" A ghastly red aura started to surround me as I felt my rage grow even higher, my vision starting to blur.

"DON'T YOU KNOW THAT ME GETTING HURT WILL ONLY MAKE IT HARDER TO FUCKING SLEEP LATER YOU ASSHATS!?"

After that, I lost track of the time, only focusing on killing everything in my path, over and over again, not caring if I got hurt, only killing, killing, killing, killing, killing, killing-!

Beep!

---------------------

"Wh-what just happened?"

"He's quite strong you know, and is rather gifted in the arts of fighting. But, he's rather lazy, probably even lazier than that One-Shot Hero." I walked over to my best bud, patting him on the back.

"You did good buddy, congrats."

"Zzzz…"

His axe and body bloodied, with both his own blood and the enemies, Hector was found fast asleep, standing up amidst the mass of blood and bodies that surrounded him.

In what would be later known as the Rout of Monster Way, hero Hector slew 31,000 monsters in exactly 10 minutes in a fit of defiant rage, saving the rest of the excursion crew from imminent death.

With Josh and the 7 others as his witness, he gained his title of the Lethargic Berserker Hero, becoming one of the laziest heroes to ever hold the Time Traveling Hero position, while simultaneously being one of the most feared, with this as warning to all:

"Whatever you do, do not screw with his naptime or Josh."

------------------------

"Master, hurry up, you already made us late."

"Yeah, I know, I just wanted to view one last one before I'm stuck in a mission for God knows how long," I grumbled, yawning to myself. I really am tired…

"By the way, you wouldn't happen to know what type of mission this would be, do you?"

Anna shook her head, her silver hair swishing around as she did so. "Negative, Anna has no clue what sort of mission details we shall be getting."

Worth a shot I guess. What're the odds I get to deal with dinosaurs again? We walked up to the doors that lead into the hall where Tempus was stored, and I put my hand up to the door, it scanning it before they whished open, stopping with a boom.

"Well, look who finally decided to show up!"

Ugh, this guy again. I was met with the Director's smiling face as he was sitting in his normal place, his head rested on the sword.

"Sorry, I just wanted to look over one more Triumph before I left," I said, and the Director sighed.

"I've been told you go there quite frequently, but to think you would ignore a summons from me in order to take a quick peek is astonishing."

I scratched the back of my head. "To be fair, I already have a precedent for not really listening to you soooo…"

"Honestly, what're we to do with you eccentric Heroes," he muttered.

"I also have to add that I'm not even close to the eccentricity that the other Heroes have."

"Eh, I would rank you 25th out of the 100 heroes we've had."

"That high!?"

I heard Anna clear her throat next to me. "Director, it would be prudent to get back on topic."

"I suppose you're right," he said, and he pulled out his Hephy, scrolling through some stuff. "I'm about to send you the mission details, so you should get them right about… now."

I pulled out Nymphy and started to skim through it. "Aw man, no dinosaurs?"

"We don't need anymore fiascos like last time, you got that!?" The Director growled out, and I tensed up, laughing nervously.

"Who, me? I would never be audacious enough to do something like that."

"… Master's jokes are hit and miss; more misses than hits though," Anna let out in her usual flat tone.

"Where did that even come from!?"

"Anna is saying that Master is almost funny."

I scowled at her. "And here I thought we got along Anna. I guess it makes sense that you wouldn't understand, being a Kuudere and all."

"Listen, as much as I would love to have an argument on whether or not our newly appointed Hero is funny or not, I don't think he is, we really should get back on track."

"Don't think I didn't hear your opinion in that statement!"

The Director sighed, scratching his afro. "Honestly, why is it we always managed to off topic when you're around? You can look over the mission details on the way to the portal room, but just a couple important things to note."

He raised up his index finger, signifying one. "To start, you'll be joining in on the combat this time around Hiro. I've heard that the training with Mars is going surprisingly well, so you'll be on the front lines. Just remember your limits; you are still new to all this, and I don't need you dying on us just yet."

He held up middle finger, having two fingers up now. "As for the mission itself, it's more a retrieval mission, or if you're somehow unable to retrieve them, kill them. This means that the group will be rather small, as we don't want to attract attention to ourselves. That also means no unnecessary fighting; fight if you must, but if you can escape, always go with that."

He held up his ring finger now, for a total of three. "Finally, I've sent each of you something different about this mission that is top-secret. You can share it between yourselves, but do not tell any of the other squadmates, got it?" We nodded, and he grinned.

"Now, one last thing; the place you'll be going to is-!"

------------------------

"Is Master nervous?"

We had made it to the portal room, where we were following Roberto's squad towards our designated portal, this one up in the walls.

"No, but I am curious though," I said in response as we stopped.

"Seriously, how the hell did I get stuck with the kid again," Roberto muttered, glancing at me. "Listen kid, don't do anything stupid, you got that!?"

"I would never Roberto!" I said in response, and I only got a disgruntled face in response.

"Alright, if we're ready, let the 102nd Retrieval Mission start!"

Still, I have to wonder what type of place it'll be, I thought to myself as we all entered the portal.

The Distant Future…

And Thus, Begins Hiro's Last Triumph of New.
