Chapter 16 - Let me make it up to you

When Jimmy reached downstairs Noor was already waiting for him at the dinner table. She was sitting with her hands on the table and cross-legged. Jimmy walked towards her, dragged a chair and sat next to her.

Nancy arrived with rice and Chicken with gravy in two big bowls. She served one to Noor and one to Jimmy. Noor looked at her and refused to eat. She asked Nancy to take away the bowl she brought for her.

Nancy looked at Jimmy for permission. Jimmy understood Nancy's worries and ordered, "No… keep the bowl here. She will eat this no matter what"

Noor looked at him with a little terror in her eyes.

Jimmy realized that maybe his voice was too harsh that it scared her. He immediately softened and said, "I mean… you should eat this, it's very healthy for you"

Noor paused and moved her head in an okay.

She took a spoon and started mixing rice and chicken in her bowl. Jimmy asked Nancy to go and have rest. Without Jimmy's request, Noor raised a spoon to his lips which caught him off guard.

He thought she was mixing it for herself but when she offered him food from her bowl his heart filled with joy. He gladly opened his mouth and took the spoon.

In an hour they were done with dinner. Noor cleaned the table, washed the dishes and retired to her room while Jimmy was on the phone. When he finished he saw that Noor had already gone to the bedroom. He followed her and saw that she was reading a novel.

He walked to her with mischief in his eyes. "Isn't it the 'Wandering Soul'?" he asked. "Yes…" she responded without sparing a look.

"I have read this one. It's great. The guy commits suicide after his beloved dies of cancer", he said with a silly ear to ear smile on his face.

"…"

She looked at him angrily and closed the book with a thud. She squinted and then rolled her eyes.

"Great! I have been reading it for 2 months."

"Oops! I am so sorry…" he apologized externally but in his heart, he knew he did it deliberately.

"It's fine. What will I get for crying on spilled milk…" she sighed and looked away.

"Hey… let me make it up to you", he said with all innocence.

"How?" she asked.

"You know your husband is a great storyteller…" he rolled his sleeves with utter coolness.

"Oh really…" Noor raised an eyebrow at him.

"Whatttt!! You doubt your husband's capabilities?" he started acting all melodramatic.

"No… I didn't say that. But I think you…" she pouted.

"Alright let me tell you a story tonight. What genre would you like to listen to?" he asked in confidence.

He stood up and retired to the other side of the bed. He stretched his legs and covered himself in a quilt.

"As it was a romantic novel, tell me a romantic one"

He turned off the lights, "Sure, tuck yourself in."
