Tokyo Police

Vol 2 Chapter 13: Professor Saito

"Welcome to you. To be honest, I didn't expect that after so many years, people still care about my experience in excavating these cultural relics!"

The place where Professor Saito and Kanako met was in his villa in the northern suburbs of Kofu City. The villa was surrounded by endless vineyards, and even the fragrance of fruits wafted in the air. Although the price of real estate here is not comparable to Tokyo, living in such a place is a privilege for the rich.

"Yesterday when we were visiting Kofu Castle, we happened to meet your student Ichigosuke Yamazaki. He talked to us about your experience of excavating Shingen's buried gold. Even a layman like me who knows nothing about archaeology would love you I admire it so much..." Lin Xiu complimented Professor Saito.

"There! There! It's all 7 years ago!" Professor Saito replied cheerfully.

When he first met Professor Saito, Lin Xiuyi was a little surprised, because Professor Saito was younger than he imagined. He looked like he was in his early forties. Being a full professor at RB's public university at this age is definitely not an easy task in a society like RB that pays attention to seniority.

"Professor Saito, we are here today to ask some questions about the costumes and culture of the Warring States Period. We are writing the script for the special episode of the New Year for the series of reasoning dramas that are currently popular. The murder in the secret room was brought to the screen..." Kanako explained the purpose of this visit to Professor Saito. Professor Saito nodded knowingly.

"Professor Saito, I heard that you still have a piece of Jin Xiaojing that was excavated in your hand. If it is convenient, we would like to see this legendary treasure with our own eyes." Lin Xiuyi said immediately.

"Of course you can, please come here with me!" Professor Saito took Lin Shuichi and Kanako into his study without hesitation. This room looks quite European-style, with a soft wool carpet on the floor, and two-row style bookcases on both sides, with a dazzling array of books on it. The desk is placed by the window, and looking out from here, there are charming natural pastoral scenery as far as the eye can see.

"This is the golden small sentence. It looks like a standard oval shape, with Takeda Ling's mark on both ends. There are horizontal lines on the front and back of the small sentence. This design is to prevent being scratched on purpose. The gold scraps are placed, and the text in the middle marks the weight of this small sentence - 12 taels. During the Warring States Period, the small sentence of the Takeda family was only used for large-scale trade with those powerful merchants. It is difficult for ordinary people to have the opportunity. Seeing this kind of thing..." Professor Saito took out the small sentence placed in the crystal box from his bookcase and placed it on his desk for Lin Xiuyi to watch. And explained the knowledge to the two on the side.

Lin Xiu leaned down and carefully observed the small sentence. Probably because of the age, although it is made of pure gold, it no longer has that golden luster, but it gives people a warm feeling. Lin Xiuyi often watched treasure appraising programs when he was in China. He knew that it was the years that had left a layer of pulp on the surface of the gold utensils.

"Ah, it's so beautiful! I really didn't expect a small sentence in the Warring States Period to be like this!" Kanako sincerely praised. Although the Jin Xiaojing seen here and the one seen in Jiazhou City are the same kind of gold, maybe they are closer, and many details can be seen more clearly. This gave Kanako a sense of witnessing history.

After admiring the golden utensils, Professor Saito invited everyone to sit down and rest in the study and served refreshments. Then he began to talk about some experiences of discovering the Xinxuan treasure back then.

"When I was studying for a postgraduate course at Yamanashi University, I came across some materials about the Shingen buried gold, which made me interested in the whereabouts of the buried gold. Later, I learned from the Yamanashi Prefectural Archives. When I checked the police records during the Meiji period, I happened to read the record that the police once found ten small gold sentences with the mark of the Takeda family on a man who fell off a cliff and died. This made me more sure that Shingen buried gold. There's something wrong."

"However, because the incident on the record happened in the Meiji period, the whereabouts of these Jin Xiaojing have been impossible to verify. Moreover, the police records also mentioned that there was also a note that recorded Shingen's buried gold, and the whereabouts of this note are also unknown. The only thing that is certain is that this incident caused a great sensation back then, and thousands of people made a special trip to Koshu to find clues to the treasure..."

"Since then, I have made it my life's goal to track down the whereabouts of the buried gold. UU reading www.uukanshu.com I am ashamed to say that I was too stubborn at the time, and at one point I had a lot of trouble with the Yamanashi University where I studied. Stupid, but fortunately, I finally found a clue to the buried gold..."

Saito told about his legendary experience, and Lin Xiuyi listened quietly there. As soon as Lin Xiu heard it, Saito seemed to be very familiar with his own experience, and he could tell what happened a few years ago without thinking. But it's not surprising to think about it. After all, Professor Saito immediately aroused the interest of many people after discovering these Jin Xiaojings. He should have talked to a lot of media about his experience.

After the interview, Professor Saito invited Lin Shuichi and Kanako to have a light meal together, but Kanako agreed. But I didn't think that what Professor Saito called a light meal was actually a very high-end kaiseki meal.

"I'm really sorry to make you spend so much money!" Lin Xiuyi and Kanako hurriedly thanked them.

"Don't mind, this is also a restaurant that my friends and I run together, and I hope to reproduce the dining culture of the Azuchi-Momoyama and Edo periods!" Professor Saito explained.

"I didn't expect you to be so researched on diet!" Lin Xiuyi complimented. To be honest, Lin Xiuyi has never eaten kaiseki! After all, the days he had just left the poor students were only a few short months.

"Kaiseki originated from Zen Taoism. The original meaning is that monks put a piece of kaiseki in front of their stomach in order to resist hunger during the long process of listening to Zen. Later, there was a refreshment when listening to Zen, which gradually evolved into Kaiseki cuisine..."

The restaurant run by Saito is called Fenglinya, which seems to be a metaphor for the Four Characters of Fenglin and Volcano from the Takeda family. I have to say that this place looks like a high-end consumption place, not to mention the decoration and environment, even the menu here is handwritten calligraphy, the taste is not generally high.
