Towards Godhood

Chapter 25 - Trapping the snake 1

Xiao Fan hadn't forgotten to ask about where their town was or any other information that she was willing to talk about, she even hinted about them not being able to evacuate everything from the town before fleeing.

This might have been a lie to get them to check the place, but they, either way, weren't going there for the possible loot, but for the snake guarding said loot.

Talking about the snake, they only knew that their towns chief who was at Body Activation realm had severely wounded it when fighting the snake till death.

From this, they knew that they would be facing a snake of Body Activation realm cultivation that must be on its last legs, bringing them some hope in success.

However, as both of them were keen on the profit, they after eating decided to leave their luggage here and take a trip to see if they had been fooled.

Soon they wandered into an opening of forest that became a large field which had a road in the middle, ending said farmland was a wooden wall that had been smashed into pieces by something slithering over it.

It would seem that they hadn't been duped as there was a snake here, and indeed it was a big one as the lady had told them. She had said that the snake should be tens of meters long and several meters wide.

Now having more trust in the information they walked over to the main entrance, where he helped Du Lan to climb into a watchtower that was still standing.

Not knowing where the snake was, Du Lan climbs up the tower exceedingly cautious, so cautiously that if the snake was on the other side of the wall, it wouldn't know about her.

Now having her in an advantageous spot, Xiao Fan also found something beneficial for himself when going through the destroyed gate, as he came across a corpse still holding to a metal tool.

The metal tool was a sword which had no blood in it, so the user should have died in vain against the snake, thinking about this Xiao Fan grabbed the tool from the guard while murmuring that he would take revenge with this sword.

The weapon was of shoddy work, but as it was forged from steel would it still be a weapon, which Xiao Fan wanted even if he had never used a sword before.

Swinging the sword from side to side few times he thought it would slice through his flesh; even testing on it on himself, he noted that a mortal sword user could be of danger to him.

Enough of testing and familiarising done, he made work quietly scouring through the village before only one place was left unchecked inside the makeshift wall of the town.

This place is the town hall built on top of a mound in the very middle of the town. The place seemed pretty convenient for a snake due to the size, as the snake could use it as a makeshift cave.

His theory was reinforced even more when sneaking over to the place, for the number of bodies increased exponentially.

There was also one other thing bugging him that was all these smells, and scenes in that were everywhere, and this was, of course, the scents and pictures of the slaughter of humans that had happened here maybe a day or two ago.

Trying not to dissuaded by the sights around him, he walked past the bodies in different stages of eaten until he came to the doors that had been smacked aside.

Coming to see what was inside, it would seem that Xiao Fan had goo luck when hunting mutants, as the snake was just like the rat, soundly sleeping.

Looking at the massive creature, Xiao Fan was genuinely awed by its size.

Furthermore, its skin was black as the night, its scales looked sturdy as a rock while the only thing wrong with its body was the wound that was just a little away from its head.

Taking note of this wound it would it seem that the chief had only missed a killing blow on the snake only by a meter or less.

However, this was only good news for them as the snake wasn't at the peak of its strength. To know this was easy as when the snake breathed, it would stop and continue.

The slash must have penetrated its lung, he understood. Still, as it was a genuine Body Activation realm snake, and they had no way of knowing which grade, maybe it was wounded, but how much?

After noting everything he still stayed and watched the snake for a moment to see if he had missed anything, and all the while doing this, he had almost puked.

For the stench around him was becoming unbearable.

When he was sure enough about his great luck concerning cathing enemies sleeping, he withdrew down the hill towards Du Lan's position on the gatehouse.

Informing her about the situation they decided they had a small possibility to kill the snake before it would wake up as it was only around midnight right now.

Yet that was taken out of consideration for a better plan that was hatched by both of them.

Now having a plan both of them separated to look for things they would need to set up their plan.

Du Lan found and collected an array of weapons ranging from spears to knives; anything with a blade was picked up by her while Xiao Fan took one of the gatehouse's doors.

From there they crafted a gate door filled with blades sticking out of it, and then placed it to hang on two houses. Their trap now set Xiao Fan would go and anger their prey to lure it here.

Walking back to the townhall Xiao Fan didn't have a lot of worries anymore because of their plan. He trusted that their plan had good chances of killing the snake, so there was nothing more to do than let pieces fall together.

Xiao Fan stopped on the door and practised the movement of throwing a javelin. When having a small idea how to do it, he took a few steps and twisted his body before throwing the javelin towards the snake's head.

No sounds were coming from the javelin flying towards the snake's wound, and it soon penetrated the scales effortlessly while it also opened her two big eyes and a long tongue came out hissing.

However before she acted another javelin came flying towards her from the direction of the town halls entrance nailing her scales again, and while these wounds might not be anything that will kill herm but still getting stabbed for no reason was ever good.

Knowing that she had to react to this, she started to wake up her body while her head turned towards the outside where those sticks had been coming from.

Turning to face there, she soon saw another stick come at her hitting her soft underbelly and penetrating even deeper than the last two.

But it also showed that there was an enemy who was also strong enough to hurt her, so whatever it was she would need to take a look.

And so shortly after turning there, she could with the help of the moonlight differentiate a human figure which was holding javelins at her front door.

Discerning that it was just one cultivator coming to get her, she sneered to herself. Thinking that after killing ten or so cultivators only one would try to stand up against her felt laughable to her, as even if counted that there was a grievous wound on her body a single cultivator at his power level was only a small obstacle for her.

All of this made her slither towards the opponent, who when she was at a lunging distance retreated into the town she had occupied a few days prior.

For a moment the snake stopped to think if following this one small cultivator was worth it, as she could just let the human go and maybe nothing would happen, but somehow she predicted that this one would be fighting till the end.

And as the people who were living here had been weaklings, nothing like the snakes or humans where she had come from, she decided to hunt this last person still trying to defend this ruined place that was now her den.

Slithering down the hill, she mushed few of the human bodies lying around with no care; these human bodies were worth nothing to the snake, so she didn't care, for now, she only cared about killing Xiao Fan.

The dance around the town started as the participants took their places, they were, Xiao Fan hiding in the houses and alleys while the snake roamed the streets for any signs of him.

Sometimes she would feel another javelin hit her long body, which to she then would quickly turn around and smash few houses from the direction the javelin had come, but she didn't even get any visual on and slowly Xiao Fan got into her nerves.

Coming up with a solution to this, she started to flatten any house she came across as if there were no hiding spots where could the human hide anymore?

Realising this Xiao Fan needed to quicken his plans before the houses where the trap was done would be accidentally crushed, so he forgot about poking any free damage in, and then unsheathed his sword while coming out of hiding.

When Xiao Fan openly met the snake half of then town's building had been destroyed by her during the hunt, but now seeing her opponent wanting to fight she stopped everything else.

She slithered towards him, lunging at the only thing keeping her from claiming this territory her own.

The black snake had made quick work of any distance between them while Xiao Fan took a position he thought would be one that a swordsman would take and slashed towards the snakes head.

His first-ever swing at a target missed, but not heartened by this he took another step forward and used the momentum in his body to slash again from the other side.

The snake hadn't seen this coming, and so before she had her lunge done the sword cut her face drawing blood. From taking this hit, she understood that she needed to be careful.

Xiao Fan seeing that the snake was when using broad terms wounded by him became eager for more. However, getting one hit in didn't mean that a snake in Body Activation was easy prey for a sword user, as he was being pushed back by her even if he used all of his power.

However, being pushed back was what he wanted; he wanted her to be confident and come at him without care. Only when the snake would be oblivious to its surroundings could the trap be sprung.

So they fought on the streets, sometimes inside half-broken buildings, but whenever the snake was just about to get rid of him would he jump out of a window or something letting him escape.

Like this, their fight had soon been going on for ten minutes or so, and during it, Xiao Fan was becoming slightly better with every swing.

Still, he somewhat complained as he didn't get the freedom to think and review his actions. But he didn't even dare to think about doing so as the opponent was a Body Activation realm mutant after all.

Most likely, the snake that was getting frustrated wouldn't stop and let him do so, but he could still be happy and feel his skill with the sword improve.

After ten more minutes, Xiao Fan was starting to feel a little tired while Du Lan for the whole time had just been watching the show from a position that was becoming closer to the place they were fighting.

She watched from a rooftop how Xiao Fan was fighting in equal terms with a giant snake which cultivation exceeded his own. An impressive feat she thought; even if the snake was severely wounded from fighting a whole town before.
