Towards Godhood

Chapter 79 - Bandits 1

The way Xiao Fan and his escort would be meeting these bandits was somewhat reminiscent of his way of ambushing the Lion tribe during his own campaign.

They were running as they had for a day.

Now moving at good speed towards the Liang Dynasty while on their way, and as they were going forward, they were choosing more and more dangerous routes if they seemed faster.

Choosing their route like this had surely gotten their overall trip to be faster than expected, but now it would cost them something as they met a toll gate in front of them.

As the route they had taken through a narrow ravine was being blocked, blocked by trees that no one would think this as an accidental occurrence.

Still, having taken this route, they pushed forward, hoping that maybe this trap was made a long time ago, and if they busted through nothing else would spring.

However, against their wished another trap sprang.

Well, something sprang, for a mass volley of arrows came towards them from above them.

On the other hand, thanks to the sprang of string, everyone in their party could hear something was up.

It would seem that their enhanced hearing and seeing saved them as the first volley although being a direct one didn't even hit one of them.

What happened next didn't even need to be talked around the elites as the said elites started jumping up towards the archers.

All of them knew how to react to something like this as career soldiers.

Only Zheng Chao stayed behind to hold the three of them if something unexpected would happen.

Xiao Fan watched how the elites were powerful enough to crush the stone under them to create a footing, wherefrom they would then launch another jump upwards.

The swiftness of the elites would seem to take everyone on the opponent's side off guard, and when they were in a melee could they only realise that they had bitten something little too hard.

It wouldn't take long, for the small groups of archer hiding on the ridges would be taken care of in seconds.

What Xiao Fan in the bottom saw was only how an elite would jump, then a few bodies would fly where he had jumped.

Then another jump.

Everything was well; however, it soon became evident that it was only the first group as while they were cleaning the nest more of them popped up from higher up.

And the people, who rose their heads from hiding were stronger than the lest.

Dangerous enough that one of them wounded one of the elites, it was a penetrating hit to the shoulder, which prompted Zheng Chao to act by leading Xiao Fan and the others to help.

Going behind Zheng Chao and sometimes using the other stairs made before, Xiao Fan and the women with him had an easy time to climb to the place.

When they got to the injured soldier, Xiao Fan and Du Lan, took him to the side to be patched up while Zheng Chao took care of pushing in his stead, Qian Ki, running behind him.

Xiao Fan, for a moment starting first aid on the wounded elite, watched as Qian Ki ran behind Zheng Chao up towards the new patch of archers.

He was about to shout at her to come back for a moment.

Yet didn't as the current situation wouldn't let them hold back, and Qian Ki should be strong enough to handle them.

This in mind, he forgot about that.

And refocussed onto his duty that was the wound on the elite's shoulder wasn't, which wasn't a small one, but also not a one that he would bring out the real Greenheart.

Though he did use the diluted one.

In the end, it didn't take long for him and Du Lan to patch the guard, who hadn't g.r.o.a.n.e.d in pain even once before, and when it was done, they would also be taking the position of reinforcements with him.

That, for now, was looking towards where Qian Ki had gone.

Looking there, Xiao Fan could at least say that she was winning, for sometimes bodies with missing parts would be dropped down, meaning that she was still going.

The second batch of bandits.

Had proved to be a little harder fight than the last one, but if one would bet on them to win would that one be an idiot, as the fighting was soon nearing another lull because lessening resistance.

Yet like it happened once it happened the second time.

As the real enemy had now deemed that they would need to fight this battle themselves, their underlings were being crushed too hard.

A tall man filled with scars on his body holding a bow in his hand had appeared on top of the slope, and by his side a few other figures who either weren't skinny nor good faced men like Xiao Fan was.

Though the latter didn't matter Xiao Fan took note of that.

What mattered, however, was that the tall man's power was on par with the elites.

He even nailed one of them penetrating the c.h.e.s.t cavity, in turn, making Xiao Fan and the reserves to move up again.

It also made the rest of their side to push upwards, to revenge their friend.

And now that Zheng Chao had seen who the real boss of the enemies was, he didn't need to think more than to kill him.

And as Xiao Fan was moving up towards the wounded elite, he also saw how Qian Ki was running behind Zheng Chao again, and towards the new enemy that had appeared.

Qian Ki also seemed to be completely lost in the carnage.

Her clothes were already blood-red from head to toe, yet the woman didn't show any other emotion than one of hunger for more.

Xiao Fan could only sigh when coming up to the new man needing treatment while again, the elite, who hadn't spoken once to him, took the duty of the wounded one and continued his battle-brothers push upwards.

Unlike the last elite, however, this one talked while being treated.

¨She sure seems like her mother¨ The man spoke as Xiao Fan was applying the Greenheart mix onto his wound.

Xiao Fan hearing someone mentioning Qian Ki's mother, of course, became interested ¨You know her mother?¨ He asked yet not forgetting his real job here to treat the wound.

Though it left Du Lan to be the only one on watch.

But, thankfully, Du Lan was an archer, and archer was the perfect fit for this duty.

Because she could support the portion of the group climbing upwards, and look out if anyone was sneaky enough to come at them from the shadows.

¨No, no I didn't know her of course. I did see her fight once and what she did to that person after the fight was over¨ The man spoke.

¨Oh, how do you think that she compares to her mother?¨ He inquired as no one had yet wanted to talk about Qian Ki's mother.

Not even Qian Bai would talk anything regarding his deceased wife, so hearing anything would help him plan for the future a lot.

¨Well, she does seem to have that same blood l.u.s.t¨ He then wandered in his memories to tell a story ¨I remember as a young boy. I went to watch a tournament where she was participating¨

¨At that time, she was just at the Body Limit realm at an age that was almost breaking the record for achieving the realm. In that tournament, she was against an old man, who had said something bad about her before the fight¨

¨During that match her mother sure showed how a usual person of the same grade couldn't hold a candle for her. Well, okay, he held the candle for a moment at the beginning of the fight, yet made a critical mistake to taunt her once¨

¨This one taunt of his made the woman fly into a rage! Her eyes became blood red, and I can swear that she had a small flame coming out from them or something, although I was young at that time I saw it!¨ He stated the last sentence, trying to sound very confident about his sight back then.

Xiao Fan didn't need to think a lot before understanding it was probable ¨Okay, I'll trust you for now about those eys so go on¨ He replied.

¨The woman her eyes blazing red flames out of them then charged at the man, who trembled from this sight of her eyes. But not for long, as the blade in the woman's hand that was burning like her eyes sliced the man cowering in fear, in half¨

¨So if taken consideration, your woman is still much tamer than the woman I saw back then was. Furthermore, the tournament back then wasn't one where people were supposed to die. Yet she didn't care as he took the mans body now sliced in half with her. No one was even stopping her from leaving the arena with the body¨ The man talked his last words as he was feeling bandage on his hand getting its last tightening.

¨Thanks for the story¨ Xiao Fan thanked the man for telling what should be coming in the near future, and to him, the near future seemed to hold something good for Qian Ki's powers.

The man now gone back into the fight, Xiao Fan walked up to Du Lan who was sometimes shooting into the melee if she had a clear shot.

¨You heard that story right?¨ Xiao Fan asked her, who didn't change her duties but still did respond to his question.

¨Yeah, it seems like she will become more and more interesting as time goes on¨

¨Are you still afraid of her powers?¨ Referring to the time when Du Lan had called Qian Ki a witch.

Du Lan this time took a little more time before a response came out of her just after an arrow had left her bow ¨Of course, I fear a person who might as well kill us any moment in our lives¨ She spoke.

Xiao Fan hadn't thought her being still so much fearing of her.

¨You still think so negatively of her? You saw how nice and similar she is to you when she is all normal¨ He questioned and defended Qian Ki, he didn't want Du Lan to have suspicions towards Qian Ki.

¨Guess you are right about her being nice when she is all normal, but as, you, yourself implied when she is like this who knows what she will do?¨ Du Lan spoke her opinion, not minding what he thought.

She was sure that Xiao Fan only appreciated when she was totally honest with him.

And Xiao Fan was genuinely appreciative.

Since it gave him an easier understanding of the world of hers, and his current understanding now was that Du Lan still holds a good amount of suspicion towards Qian Ki, founded on a sound basis.

Seeing that she wasn't budging, he decided not to sway her opinion right now and would let the future give her more basing to trust Qian Ki.

¨But you still consider her a sister right?¨ At least Xiao Fan would want to hear a positive answer to this question.

¨She is your woman. I'm your woman. We are sisters¨ She simply spoke, indifferently.

¨How about if you take me out of consideration?¨ He asked her again, not completely satisfied with her first answer. It was just because she considered him which would automatically have this answer from her.

¨If there was no you, and I met her I would still take her as my sister, for the benefits of her outweigh the negatives¨ She answered again in a way that pleases him more.

But before Xiao Fan would ask her the third time.

Du Lan finally gave an answer that he could truly accept ¨Don't be like that I'm just playing with you. Of course, I take Ki'er as my sister in every way possible¨ She said.

So she was still playing with him Xiao Fan thought ¨Well, good to hear that you don't have anything major against her¨ He spoke.

¨If I would hate someone for something relating to this it would be you, who in the first place took her into the family, you unfaithfull¨ She giggled.

¨Don't worry now that I know you go so well with Qian K, I'm confident in getting you more sisters to fill that void Du Huan has left in you¨ He taunted her back.

That, however, finally prompted her to look at Xiao Fan, even stopping her sniping with the bow, yet she didn't say anything to him and only rolled her eyes.

While in her mind, she was going over that did her man already dare to joke about getting more women? He had just added Qian Ki into their world of two people a few weeks ago.

Already more? 'No~no~no~no~no~nooo'

So her reaction to him saying this was scorn, to say the least of it, while inside of her mind, she thought that it would be a beneficial idea to talk to Qian Ki about how they had forgotten to tighten the leash.
