Chu Nan’s bed was quite hard and Ruan Yan soon felt pain from being pressed down.

Both of his hands were forced together and pressed down onto the bed by Chu Nan, his palms turning red from being rubbed against the bed.

Ruan Yan had never been treated like this before and a burst of anger came from his heart as his peach blossom eyes stared at Chu Nan coldly, “Looks good but isn’t useful, you’re still so proud of it?”

The hand Chu Nan was searching for the phone with paused. Bowing his head to look at Ruan Yan, he angrily said, “Not useful? How about you try it?”

Ruan Yan was slightly dumbfounded. The path of the male lead in Mary Sue Novels were so wild nowadays?

Chu Nan saw that he was stupefied and coldly smiled, “Are you dreaming? I’d only find you to try it if I became a fool. Even if everyone in the world died, I still wouldn’t find you. Don’t worry, you can put a hundred hearts at rest.” (1)

“Fine, remember what you’ve said today.” Ruan Yan replied.

Why would he forget? Chu Nan couldn’t stand the sight of Ruan Yan’s sudden smugness at having a well thought out plan out of the blue and slightly lifted his voice, “Give your phone to me, otherwise I’ll beat you up.”

Ruan Yan wouldn’t give it. Chu Nan insisted on having it.

It wasn’t like Ruan Yan had no power to fight back. Turning over, he started struggling.

The two were locked onto each other, and it was difficult to separate either of them. When Chu Nan finally found Ruan Yan’s phone and was about to take it out––

“Teacher Ruan, Nan-zi, I’ve brought you guys some fruits.”

It was Grandma Chu’s voice!

Ruan Yan and Chu Nan looked at each other for a moment. They’d fought fiercely. Even Chu Nan’s bath towel had almost fallen off, and Ruan Yan’s hair was slightly messy, his clothes wrinkled, and his clear handsome face was red as he lightly panted.

If this were to be seen, then there was sure to be an accident.

Chu Nan’s brows tightened and Ruan Yan quickly took the opportunity to quietly whisper, “Just for now, give the phone back to me.”

Want to take advantage of this to threaten me? Chu Nan raised his brows arrogantly, hostilely replying, “No. If you keep on talking, then I’ll stuff it inside your mouth.”

Stuff what in?

As soon as Ruan Yan understood, his ears turned completely red. Chu Nan was actually this kind of person.

He couldn’t tell at all when he was facing Ran Yan. As expected, a man’s mouth was just a lying ghost.

Chu Nan saw that he’d been scared obedient, and opened his mouth again, “Behave yourself.”

At this time, Grandma Chu opened the door and came in holding a plate of fruits. She smilingly said, “Teacher Ruan, come and eat some fruit first.”

Ruan Yan straightened out his breathing to the side and politely said, “You’re too polite, please just call me Xiao Ruan.”

Grandma Chu repeatedly agreed, before criticising Chu Nan, “Nan-zi, why didn’t you tidy up your bed? It’s outrageous for Xiao Ruan to see such impropriety, hurry up.”

Chu Nan had originally tidied up the bed, in the end, wasn’t it Ruan Yan himself who’d rolled around on the bed and messed it up?

Unfortunately, it wasn’t like he could say that, and could only use his eyes to dismember (2) Ruan Yan.

Ruan Yan lightly rubbed his reddened palms without speaking.

Grandma Chu spoke again, “Nan-zi, in a moment, grandma’s going to accompany your grandpa to play chess. Aunty Chen just happened to go home to see her child today, but everything’s in the fridge. Remember to make some lunch, don’t maltreat Xiao Ruan.”

Chu Nan unwillingly agreed.

Only when Grandma Chu went out did Chu Nan use a cold and gloomy gaze to stare at Ruan Yan, “Are you the pea princess? Touch your hand once and it’s red.”

Ruan Yan was too lazy to argue with him, “Give me back my phone.”

Chu Nan was holding the stolen phone in his hand and was just about to ask for the password, only for it to open with a single click.

There were only a few contacts in Ruan Yan’s phone, so he didn’t set a password.

Chu Nan flipped to the recordings only to see a sea of white. There was no recording at all!

He let out a smile that was not a smile and asked, “Tell me, what do you think you're doing?”

If he hadn’t said anything, then wouldn’t none of this had happened?!

Ruan Yan really didn’t think that he would steal the phone without a second word, and coldly replied, “You’ve finished looking, give me back my phone.”

Chu Nan was originally about to give the phone back, but suddenly thought of the message Ruan Yan had sent to his Yan Yan.

He flipped the phone, “Soon.”

As he spoke, he opened up the contacts page.

Ruan Yan watched his actions and couldn’t help walking forward a few steps, then, his heart started thumping.

As expected, Chu Nan had opened up the contacts page. At the top of the contact records, there was a number, Ruan Yan’s number – however, the set name was ‘me’.

This was because Ruan Yan would feel vexed every time he thought of the scenes where he had to cosplay as a female, so in order to vent, he’d specially not changed the contact name.

Would Chu Nan find out because of this?

Chu Nan measured Ruan Yan from top to bottom, “What’s up with this ‘me’?”

Ruan Yan was panicked at heart, but appeared even calmer on the surface, anger and happiness unable to be seen, “There’s no reason for me to tell you.”

Peng!

Chu Nan heavily slammed the table, “I’m warning you, it doesn't matter whether you have a reason or not. No matter how intimate you make yourself out to be, Yan Yan still wouldn’t take an extra glance at you.”

As he spoke, he changed Ran Yan’s contact name to ‘The goddess who I’ll never be able to associate with in a lifetime’.

Ruan Yan: …

He really wouldn’t ever be able to associate with himself, because, in this lifetime, he would never be interested in being his own Gong or Shou. (3)

“Played around enough yet?” Ruan Yan stared at Chu Nan coldly, “If you’ve played enough, then start studying.”

Chu Nan held up his prideful and arrogant handsome face as he pulled out a chair to sit on, “Let’s start.”

“I don’t know magic.” Ruan Yan icily spoke.

Chu Nan, “What?”

“Where are the books?” Ruan Yan replied, “Do you want me to read from a heavenly edict since there are no books? My apologies, but there is no such service.”

Chu Nan: …

He got up to get the books, but Ruan Yan stabbed a knife into him again, “Put on some clothes by the way, I’m not in charge of teaching physiology.”

“No one asked you to teach PD.” Chu Nan also didn’t know what was wrong with this Ruan Yan, as if he was trying to provoke him with every word he spoke.

He went to go put on his clothes properly, before flipping out an extremely new book from the cupboard in the corner of the room.

Tutoring officially began.

The first topic Ruan Yan taught Chu Nan was Maths. Maths was worth a very high percentile in the university entrance exam, and moreover, it also had a very large impact on the other science subjects.

The voice he used to teach was extremely nice to listen to, just like roses in the middle of a snowy night, silently blooming – some still budding where as others had already spread their petals, revealing their fragrance.

Although he wasn’t like those teachers who liked to repeatedly emphasise what they taught, but Chu Nan could understand it.

Why was a scum’s voice so nice to listen to?

Chu Nan’s mind slightly wandered and Ruan Yan softly tapped on the table, “This is important, take notes.”

“I can remember it in my head.” Chu Nan replied.

“I can’t trust your head.” Ruan Yan played down his words, appearing just like the villain in the novel who looked down on the male lead.

Only by reminding himself that he needed to force his grades to improve and thus, needed to put effort in Ruan Yan’s teachings, did Chu Nan manage to suppress his own fist and sensibly copy down notes.

Just a single lesson and Ruan Yan’s voice turned cold. There was no need to mention how difficult it was to teach Chu Nan.

Very quickly, they managed to finish revising the syllabus points for this lesson and began the practical exam.

Ruan Yan found some typical questions on his laptop and threw them to Chu Nan, “Do it.”

Chu Nan began to seriously calculate the questions and gave them to Ruan Yan to mark once he was finished.

Without even looking at the questions, Ruan Yan directly told him that questions 7 and 9 were wrong.

Chu Nan asked, “You read the questions so quickly?”

Ruan Yan made a sound in agreement, “These are all typical questions. As long as you understand what the question is asking you, then you can solve it very quickly.”

Chu Nan didn’t believe him, “But there are traps in a test. If you miss something or read something wrong, then your answer would be completely different.”

He was slightly suspicious, “You aren’t here to trick me for my money, right?”

Ruan Yan shot a glance at him before taking out the answers. They were exactly the same as Ruan Yan’s.

Ruan Yan curtly said, “Chu Nan, there are always people who are better than you (4). Although your intelligence is low, it doesn’t mean that other people’s intelligence is also low.”

Chu Nan was so angry that he almost forgot to breath. He viciously threw down his words, “Just you wait.”

Wasn’t it just studying?

Since young, all the teachers who’d taught him had praised him for being smart, it was just that he wasn’t very willing to study.

He didn’t believe that he couldn’t beat Ruan Yan.

By the time Ruan Yan finished explaining the questions to Chu Nan, it was already time to eat.

He sat down on the chair, “I’m hungry, go make lunch.”

“What?” At first, Chu Nan thought that he was hallucinating. Then, he let out an angry laugh, “You want me to make you food? Are you my wife ah?”

My other identity really is your wife without a name. (5)

Ruan Yan debunked him in his heart, whilst tidying up the desk with a cold face, “Grandma Chu said for you to make lunch.”

“I never planned to make anything.” Just as Chu Nan planned to order a relatively cheap take out, his phone suddenly began to ring.

It was currently rest time and Ruan Yan didn’t bother with him.

Chu Nan accepted the call, “Dad.”

“No way! I still need to give him $5 of my personal funds. Dad, are you and mum both bankrupt?” Chu Nan’s temper clearly stirred.

Chu Nan’s dad said, “En. Xiao Nan, you should know about me and your mum’s hardship. We don’t want you to become a second-generation profligate who only knows to play. You yourself don’t study hard enough at school, so we accept and understand the fact that you need to invite a tutor, but you must pay a portion of the tutoring fees yourself. $5 everyday isn’t a lot, this is to train your sense of responsibility.”

F**k sense of responsibility!

Chu Nan’s eyes were flooded with anger. He thought that his parents really were a special existence that could only be met with in a thousand years. The watch on his hand was worth ten million, and the motorcycle he usually rode on weekends was worth a couple billion, yet his daily expense was only 15 yuan!

What kind of lopsided educational view was this?

His dad continued to speak “You have 15 yuan of daily living expenses, but you eat breakfast at home every day. Your lunch is made at home and taken to school. Of that 15 yuan, you don’t spend much at all, now, we only expect 5 yuan from you, it’s not much.”

Chu Nan tightened his hold on his phone. He still needed to bring breakfast for Ran Yan. At lunch, he would give his nutritious lunch to Ran Yan and buy food from the school cafeteria for himself.

15 yuan was nowhere near enough.

Originally, Chu Nan had over tens of millions pocket money, but because he fought in his second year of Senior High, his account was forcibly frozen, thus leading to his current situation.

He negotiated with his dad, “I won’t pay. If you really want to force me to pay, then I have a requirement.”

Chu Nan went out to negotiate and Ruan Yan couldn’t hear a single thing.

By the time Chu Nan came back, the way he looked at Ruan Yan was just as if Ruan Yan had eaten the money he gave Ran Yan.

A single lesson was 500 yuan. How great would it be if he could give it all to Yan Yan.

“If you’re not going to make lunch, then call for take out.” Ruan Yan reminded him.

“There’s no more takeout.” Chu Nan replied in irritation, “Lao-zi’s (6) money was all extracted by you, what else do you want to do?”

“There’s no problem with you giving your money to me.” The side view of Ruan Yan’s face was beautifully clear and cold.

Chu Nan thought that he was talking about the tutoring matter, and unwillingly said, “Why’s your face so big?” (7)

Even a first place winner in the university entrance exam wouldn’t dare to charge 500 yuan for a single lesson.

In reality, it was because Grandma Chu had asked Ruan Yan’s teacher about Ruan Yan, and willingly offered 500 yuan, not wanting Chu Nan to miss such a good opportunity to become acquainted with an outstanding peer after hearing about Ruan Yan’s family background.

For a family like theirs, 500 yuan for a single lesson was no different from 5 cents for a single lesson.

Ruan Yan was hungry and once again reminded, “What are we eating if there’s no take out?”

“There’s instant noodles in the fridge.” Chu Nan’s face was gloomy as replied.

Ruan Yan almost never ate instant noodles and slightly disliked it, but still politely said, “Seafood flavour, thank you.”

This was waiting for him to carry it here himself eh?

The colour of Chu Nan’s face was extremely terrible. Couldn’t Ruan Yan have some of the awareness of a love rival?

He fiercely displayed the arrogance with which he beat up the entire city’s high schools' in his second year of senior high, “If you want to eat then get it yourself. If you want me to get it for you, then there’s no such flavour as seafood, only JB (8) flavour, you want?”

Ruan Yan frowned, “You’re not scared of Ran Yan finding out that you’re speaking such coarse words?”

Chu Nan aggressively replied, “Why don’t you go tell her bei~ If Yan Yan listens to a single word of yours, then I’ll call you dad.”

Ruan Yan secretly thought that Chu Nan was just like an evil lion. He pretended to be loyal and obedient in front of Ran Yan, just like a wild lion king. In front of other people, he was like an evil lion king hiding in the darkness, hoping to pounce and bite on someone.

Ruan Yan calmly glanced at him, “Fine. Remember your words.”

Translator’s Notes:

(1) Ok, so I’m not sure if readers want me to be more literal or not when I’m translating, but basically, the first part of the sentence “Don’t worry”, is basically what CN’s saying, but to exaggerate that, since in Chinese, ‘don’t worry’ is basically ‘put your heart at rest’, CN actually says, ‘you can put a hundred hearts at rest’. I think that the meaning is quite clear, but, either way…

(2) The proper term here was ‘ling-chi’ which is a method by which the emperor executes people in ancient times, commonly featured in novels. It is basically where you let the victim die a slow and painful death by slowly dismembering their limbs – this dismemberment is not just simply slicing their arms or legs off, but rather, slicing pieces of flesh off one by one. It is known as one of the most ruthless methods of execution in human history \^YaY^/

(3) This is actually a thing, where you’re in a romantic relationship with yourself. I think it’s called autosexual… I’m also quite sure that there was a novelupdates thread that I chanced upon talking about this… heh…

(4) The literal translation for this would be, ‘there are people outside of people, and there are skies outside of skies’. The meaning is that there will always be people who are better, no matter how much you improve. You can’t just be presumptuous to think that you are always correct because you are better than other people in some way.

(5) Not yet married, therefore he has yet to be recognised as his wife. But since their relationship is boyfriend-girlfriend, he is technically his wife…

(6) An arrogant way of aggressing himself, kind of like calling himself this “daddy” or this “grandpa”

(7) If your face is big, then you have a lot of reputation and prestige

(8) Ok… It was written as j.b. in chinese (probably to avoid censorship), but I’ll take a guess that it is the pinyin initials for d**k… Ahem… let’s not dwell on this…
