Twenty Seven Years

Chapter 11: Movie

  Chapter 11 Movie

The Arnold family and Veraker got into the car under the watchful eyes of Carmine, Meera and Fletcher. In the eyes of the Arnold family, there was nothing unusual about Carmine and the others standing at the door with a smile on their faces. But in Verak's eyes, those people standing there are like ice sculptures, exuding biting cold.

"Father, mother, you go back first, Chris and I will go play for a while." Colin greeted his parents.

"Be careful." Arnold instructed to leave in the car.

Colin and Verak got into another car and drove away from the noble mansion in the opposite direction.

Verak looked out through the car window and was in a good mood.

"Aren't you curious what new gadgets I'm going to show you?" Colin asked Veraker.

   "Watch a movie." Verac said.

"How do you know?" Colin opened his mouth wide, "You've already gone to see it? Why didn't you call me? Well, you agreed with me and went to see it secretly by yourself!"

Verak shook his head helplessly: "I didn't go to see it, but I heard some news that a continuous video image combining motion photography and slide projection technology was invented before, but at that time it was only a few seconds , and now it seems to be a feature film that lasts several minutes."

"Yes, yes, there is a thing called a projector. Just hit it on the wall and a real picture like a photo will appear. But what is even more powerful than the photo is that the thing can move! Just like a real person, it's amazing Already!" Colin's eyes were still shining when he described it, "I've watched it several times and still find it amazing, I can't understand how it's done... I must take you to see it today!"

"Okay." Verak recalled his previous life again.

In the last life, I was not taken out by Colin today, but waited for a week before I got the chance, and Colin took me to the movies.

As a photographer, Verak was as shocked as Colin when he saw the moving images for the first time. He was speechless at the time, and then he went home and tossed and turned all night without falling asleep. Those images are hard to forget.

  That was amazing to him.

A few years ago, he was a steelmaker like Dempsey. When he went shopping in Tsward, he accidentally saw a camera that could perfectly reproduce the appearance of a person on paper. Something, that simply overturned his cognition.

When he got home that day, he resolutely resigned from his job in the steel mill, took out all his savings, borrowed some money from Dempsey and Nord, and bought an old-fashioned model that was about to be eliminated after a lot of effort. Portable box camera, became the only photographer in the slums. After that, he used a lower price than that in the city, attracting many people in the slums who had heard or hadn't heard of it to try it. It didn't take long to pay off the debt and move to the best single room in the slum.

Therefore, after seeing the magic of movies, the second thing he thought of was how to make money with this thing.

"If you charge money for this thing and show it to more people, you should be able to make a lot of money." Verak said.

"You guys haven't watched it yet. Why is your first thought thinking about how to make money through this? This is art, a brand new art!" Colin emphasized the word "art".

   "Yes, art." Verac agreed.

Predictably, film will flourish like the camera. No one knows how amazing and amazing it will be in the future, but what is known is that this thing is bound to give birth to a brand new industry with great potential.

Half an hour later, the car arrived at a neighborhood that Verak didn't know. As soon as the car stopped, Colin excitedly got out of the car and took Verak into a dance hall. Although the ballroom is still noisy today, there is no music playing, and people are not dancing, but the audience is full.

Colin greeted the people inside familiarly: "Today's movie is called The Sea and the Seagull. It is estimated that it will start soon. Let's sit in the front."

The positions were all arranged in advance, and the musical instruments used for performance on the stage had already been moved to the two sides, and a huge curtain was hung in the center of the vacated space. Colin was wealthy and well-connected, so he took Verak directly to the front seat. The waiter placed champagne and fruit beside their table.

Colin ate a mouthful of fruit, turned to Veraker and said, "Your jaw will be shocked later!"

Not long after, the lights in the ballroom went out, and a beam of light was projected from behind them, which shone on the curtain, and the curtain flickered rapidly, producing some huge real pictures.

The crowd who were still chaotic just now fell silent.

Verak turned his head to look at the light source, where a machine was making a humming sound.

"That's the projector, all right, look ahead, the movie is about to start!" Colin couldn't hold back his excitement, and pulled Verac to let him look ahead.

Verak is turning around, looking at the curtain.

The scene on the curtain became clearer and clearer.

   "It's the coast!" Colin yelled.

Although this was a little impolite, in fact, many people in the ballroom screamed after the black and white picture on the curtain became clear.

   "My God..."

"what is that?"

"There are rocks in the sea!"

  Everyone started talking.

The picture on the curtain is still changing, and the snow-white waves hit the reef.

"I even felt like I heard the sound of the waves." Colin stared intently at the curtain while eating the fruit.

Villac was also deeply attracted by the scene. Although he had seen it a few times, this novel thing was too charming, and it still made people feel extremely exciting to watch it again.

The scene of the waves hitting the rocks lasted for about 30 seconds, and several seagulls hovered in the air, swooped down suddenly, flew low to the sea surface for a certain distance, and then disappeared into the camera.

This paragraph lasted for a full four or five seconds, and it directly detonated the audience.

"Art! Art!" Seeing this scene, Colin didn't even bother to eat. Although his head was still facing the curtain, his hands had already groped for Verak's clothes, "Did you see it? Amazing?! This is a movie, this is art!"

Verak raised his head slightly, even if his eyes were sore, he was not willing to blink: "I see, art."

The film lasted less than a minute in total, the projector lights went out, and the ballroom was brightened up again.

There was warm applause from the auditorium.

Colin applauded vigorously: "It's so wonderful, I can't finish it..."

Villac was also heartbroken. He drank a glass of champagne, turned his head and took a deep look at the mysterious projector, and sighed sincerely: "Lezein, what a great city."
