Chapter 2 - Unanswered

Grello gave Tykol a quick glance and stopped laughing. There was perhaps a minute of awkward silence.

Since all of the machines in the room were not currently in use, they didn't even have a hum or beep to break the silence between the two men and one teenager.

Uteu looked suspiciously between his father and Grello. The flamboyant man didn't say anything and simply smiled helplessly at him while his father glared daggers at the other man's head.

"Who exactly are you anyways?"

Grello seemed almost startled at his words and then looked deeply offended. His left eye twitched as he glanced accusingly at Tykol.

"You paranoid man! I can understand keeping Uteu in the dark... But! Did you not even talk about me in passing? I'm practically famous!"

With Grello's words, Uteu was taken aback. He racked his head, trying his best to see if he actually did know of this man. Perhaps he was on T.V. at some point?

Tykol gently eased Uteu down on the bed and turned around, scoffing at Grello.

"What use would it have been to tell him jack shit about you?"

Grello stomped his foot in annoyance but didn't refute Tykol.

"I'm too fabulous to not be mentioned." He grumbled under his breath. Grello seemed quite miffed. Uteu felt a little bit bad for him.

"Unbelievable. I should have realized it when the sparkle of admiration didn't enter his eyes." Grello said while crossing his arms in annoyance.

Uteu heard his father sigh in exasperation.

Suddenly, Uteu couldn't help but realize he wouldn't learn anything from these two liked this.

Furrowing his eyebrows Uteu said, "Enough, I know you two are just trying to change the subject."

Grello gave him a look as if he were still upset at Uteu, but he eventually eased into a helpless shrug. Which was fair. Uteu could tell that it was his father that was preventing this man from answering his questions.

Speaking of his father, Uteu looked straight into the man's green eyes. Tykol shifted his eyes away as soon as they made eye contact.

His father had the most guilty looking face Uteu had ever seen. Uteu felt uncomfortable. He didn't like seeing his father like this. The man, at least in his memories, was always warm and confident. Uteu had always felt at ease by his side.

But right now, Uteu only felt anxious.

Fiddling with the thin blanket covers, Uteu was fully aware that it was he, himself that kept changing the subject by not keeping to the original question.

He really needs to stop giving them something else to talk about. However, he just couldn't stop all the questions from coming out of his mouth. The longer he was around these two the more questions popped up.

"Ok... Just... Start from after I got stabbed. What happened? Do you know who the crazy bitch was?"

His father's shoulders seemed a lot less tense after hearing that question. Uteu felt a bit ill. So family history and the Chained thing made him uncomfortable, but talking about the stabbing incident is alright?

"Ah well, that "crazy bitch" as you call her... You can say she was possessed." Tykol started saying. This let off another warning inside Uteu's mind. His father was normally straight forward with his words.

Although he hadn't seen his father in five odd years, Uteu was sure that his father was somehow different from before.

"So you're trying to tell me someone took over her body?" He said skeptically, narrowing his eyes at Tykol.

His father sat down on a chair and faced him. He scratched his hair, obviously trying to find the right words to say.

Uteu really didn't know what was so hard about explaining.

"She was an ordinary if a slightly stalker-ish girl that was in love with you. Normally she wouldn't have ever approached you... Probably." Uteu didn't feel remotely comforted.

"Er... I suppose you can say that They needed someone to awaken you. And manipulating her into believing she'd be helping you, as well as taking over her obsessed mind ... Well it'd be far too easy. They always were best at taking over people with a one track mind." Tykol paused to let Uteu digest his words.

Uteu stared at his father.

What? Can a person even do something like this? Who the heck is They? Can't his father at least explain it in full detail?

Tykol shifted and continued before Uteu could open his mouth to ask even more questions.

"It's not a full body possession or anything but more like inserting their minds into her's and forcing their wills onto her?" Uteu wasn't sure why his father was asking him, it's not like he knew what the hell was going on.

"As eloquent with words as always, Tykol." Grello commented with a blank look.

"Shut up, asshole." Tykol retorted, with a bit of an embarrassed flush on his cheeks.

The two men bickered back a forth with nonsense that Uteu couldn't the slightest bit understand. He somewhat had a thought that his father didn't really tell him what happened though?

Uteu suddenly felt dizzy and his father reached over, covering Uteu's dark grey eyes with his warm hand.

"Son, you need to rest. I'll explain more once you wake up."

"Yes, dear Chained One, you've lost a lot of blood and even with my healing abilities, you still need to rest."

Uteu almost questioned Grello about the supposed healing abilities. Was he a doctor? Was that what he meant? He felt a warm... something... energy perhaps, flow from his father's hand that was still covering his eyes.

"Really Tykol? You're using That on him?" Uteu heard Grello say with disgust. His words brought a bit of anxiety to Uteu's mind. Unfortunately he could not fight whatever it was his father did to him.

"Shitty Dad... Why are you... so different...?" Uteu slurred his words and wasn't sure he actually said them out loud or not.

His eyelids felt heavy and he felt himself drifting to sleep. If he were honest he'd say it was a welcome nap that he desperately needed to process some of this random information.

But he didn't feel like giving his father the satisfaction. Uteu decided he'd slug his possibly bipolar or split personality father first thing when he saw his face again.

He felt upset that his father was somehow forcing him to sleep and that the man explained nearly nothing to him. Uteu still had so many questions to ask and he hated that Tykol hardly mentioned anything about Ulo and Uti.

Honestly he couldn't recall a time his father had ever seemed so... unreliable.
