Un-Chain

Chapter 21 - Bubble

Free falling down into the darkness, Uteu could hardly breathe. Fear gripped at his stomach and refused to let go. Shakily bringing out both of his arms to hopefully grab onto something, Uteu's right hand smacked into something hard, scrapping the back of his hand.

He cursed at the pain and gingerly brought his right hand back to himself. In the pitch black darkness he couldn't even check his wound. For a brief moment, Uteu lamented that he was going to die without being able to save Uti.

Something hit his feet and he found himself sinking slowly as if through honey. The speed that he had been falling at didn't seem to matter to this mysterious substance. Once it reached his head, Uteu didn't even have the chance to take in a breath of air before he found himself submerged and then out, with his feet lightly hitting solid flooring.

Looking up, Uteu observed the glowing translucent blue jelly like substance floating above him. Touching it caused ripples throughout the... he could only assume was a barrier? When he pushed at it, he found that it was very solid.

Uteu looked around himself and into the new area he was brought to. The room was small and circular. There were no doors or windows, just an empty room with what he could only assume was some type of a blue jelly barrier above his head.

On closer observation, Uteu felt like he could make out a person above the barrier. A dark fuzzy image of a man perhaps. The person seemed to be kicking at the barrier above his head before patting it. He could feel some type of energy being inserted into the barrier.

Once the man seemed satisfied with the amount of energy sent in, he left. Uteu could no longer make out his shape.

Suddenly, the jelly like substance expanded and covered every wall in the room, trapping him in a bubble. Alarmed, Uteu grabbed at the walls. Ignoring the pain that flared in his right hand, he scooped up the jelly to clear it away.

Unfortunately, it left his hands and merged back with itself. Uteu kicked and scooped faster at the jelly, hoping to at least clear a small spot, but it was useless. The jelly reformed too quickly, he found himself at the same point, over and over again.

In desperation, he called to the chain connecting himself to Grello. He put all his hopes into it and ended up frowning, his connection still felt muted and fuzzy. Somehow, it felt worse than earlier, now there was static and he couldn't even make out where the chain might even be anymore.

Frustrated, Uteu tried to recall the feeling of when he had pulled out lightning and tried to form the bolts. Looking down at his hands, he couldn't even see a spark. There was no feeling at all.

He cursed and punched the wall. The jelly rippled, but quickly settled back to normal.

"Uti..." Uteu felt himself say out loud.

Guilt and anger sat heavily in his stomach as he sat down. He was stuck here while he had no idea what could be happening to his little sister.

Using his thoughts of Uti as a sort of fuel, he got back up and resumed trying to make some type of dent into the walls. He went around the bubble, trying to find some type of weak spot. He still couldn't spot the man that had manipulated the barrier into this form. Using the time wisely while the mysterious person was gone, he tried to figure out a way out.

Uteu isn't sure how much time passed before he nearly collapsed with exhaustion. No matter which spot he went to, the wall quickly reformed itself. Nothing he did seemed to do much to the barrier.

A shadow fell over him and he looked up. He realized that it was the man from earlier and was surprised to see someone fighting him. The fight didn't seem to last very long before he found a platinum blond man in the room with him. He had his back to Uteu and seemed to be looking up.

As soon as Uteu got over his shock from seeing someone else being sent into the barrier, he followed the man's gaze. Glancing back up, he watched as the dark figure walked away once more. He heard the blonde man click his tongue and sit down.

He could feel some type of energy similar to the what the man outside of the barrier had used. It swirled around the platinum blond man, giving off an eerie green glow. The man flicked his hand and it brushed against the blue barrier and then turned into a brighter jade green color.

The barrier shuddered and slowly melted around them both. Suddenly Uteu could hear what sounded like a battle. He could see through the gaps and could spot other bubbles like the one he was trapped in.

Something seemed to have settled in his mind like a puzzle piece slotted into the correct place. He realized he could feel his Link once again. The silver chain jingled and although it still felt far away, static no longer covered it from his mind's view.

His fatigue smoothly began to wash away and he found that his wounds were healed. His Chain to Grello felt so right, like it was meant to be there.

Abruptly, the connection turned fuzzy again as the barrier rippled and expanded once more. It seemed as if it were trying to recover all the spots that had melted away. He was also no longer able to hear anything coming from outside of the barrier.

Not wasting any time, he attempted to pull out the buffs, but found himself unable to.

He tried twice before switching tactics. So what if he couldn't use Grello's abilities? He closed his eyes and searched for Uti's golden thread instead. It took a few seconds but he was able to find it. It seemed to veer off somewhere to his left. He smiled happily and opened his eyes.

Pale green eyes stared coldly at him, nearly making him jump. He had almost forgotten about the person in here with him. He berated himself for getting distracted, but he was just so delighted that he was able to feel his connections again.

Carefully observing the man before him, Uteu took in the uniform the other was wearing. It looked mostly black with inner white clothing. It had silver trimmings and unique buttons holding everything together. There was an image of wings along his shoulder blades and down his arms, over the black long sleeves. Looking at him like this, the man made a fairly intimidating if elegant image.

The man seemed to be observing him in turn as well, shifting and crossing his arms in contemplation. Uteu wondered what he saw that caused him to frown. He didn't get to ask because the man turned back around and put his hand against the barrier. A much brighter green glow swirled around him and against the barrier. It shattered around them and disappeared into little blue bubbles.

The man shook the hand that shattered the barrier and looked outside, observing the other bubbles.

Uteu was about to thank him for helping him get out when he felt himself strongly wanting to befriend and become linked to the person before him. It hit him like a sledgehammer and he took half a step back from it.

If what he felt for Harvet was distracting and unnatural, he didn't know what this feeling was.
