Un-Chain

Chapter 48 - Golden Rope Chain

Uteu found himself frowning as he continued to look upon the star frame within his mindscape.

Unlike the star Uti had formed, this star still had all of the resentment within it. He should have realized sooner that it wouldn't be so easy. He had nothing remotely similar to Uti's abilities to combat the resentment after all.

Her ability... Uteu had to wonder if he could make her his Link. It wasn't as if he hadn't thought of it before, the thought had crossed his mind more than once.

But, he was hesitant.

If he did this, she would surly be forced to join him in any other future events that might occur thanks to his status. Yet, he felt that it was also the safest place she could be. If he kept gathering people to become his Links, surly they would all help him protect her.

All of their abilities, once combined, would also strengthen her own.

While Uteu was hesitating, the star frame gained a thin golden light around it. Uteu felt startled that he could feel Uti's magic pour into it.

He gritted his teeth, even now she was still trying to help him. He knew, deep down that she would be involved no matter how he tried to shelter her. She was just far too kind to leave him all alone... alone...?

Hadn't he told Uti that he wouldn't let her use her abilities alone anymore?

Uteu let go of his hesitation. Although he still felt a spark of fear, this was the best form of protection that he could offer, so he needed to go through with it.

Unfortunately, while he now wanted to form a chain with Uti, he wouldn't be able to. At the moment, his hands were full from just maintaining the star frame and keeping it compact. He doubted that he could maintain the star while forming a connection at the same time.

Uteu frowned when he could feel Uti pour more of her magic into the star. She would surly exhaust herself fully like this. While she could use this ability in an unlimited matter, it still required for her to use her own happy thoughts and emotions to fuel it.

While he fretted over his sister, two chains jingled in the far recesses of his mind. As if to remind him that they were still there.

He startled when the two chains, one silver and one grey could no longer be contained in the safe room he had set up. He now shifted his worries to his connections to Harvet and Grello.

He could do nothing as the chains wrapped around the frame, each one taking a different point of the star to pin it down.

He could feel the angry determination within his connections to them. Both Harvet and Grello wanted to help him in anyway they could. He couldn't help but sigh in exasperation.

Perhaps it was his own fault for finding two incredibly stubborn people to form a connection to.

Seeing that there didn't seem to be any immediate detrimental affects on the two chains, Uteu relaxed and concentrated on Uti instead.

He remembered the golden thread that had signified their familial connection. He believed it was snapped but this didn't deter Uti from being able to reach out for him, so perhaps it wasn't actually cut like he had thought it was?

Just then, he felt a tiny flicker of golden light hidden in a corner of his mind where he kept fond memories. In that corner was a very tiny gold fragment that was left behind. Uteu furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at it. As he had originally thought, it truly was cut. Yet it clung to him, refusing to move from it's spot.

He prodded the bit of gold carefully.

Now, he felt that he knew. Uti had remained stubborn, refusing to let go of him no matter what she went through under the resentment's attacks. She had to have used her ability at that point to keep this fragment here. She then honed in on it to easily insert her magic into him to protect him from the resentment.

He couldn't keep the smile off his face. His brilliant little sister was truly amazing.

Using the fragment of golden thread, Uteu reimagined it into a stronger connection. This would be a permanent link to Uti. He made sure to offer the newly created chain from his side to hers in a way that she could still reject if she felt the d.e.s.i.r.e to.

Uti didn't even seem to hesitate in the slightest, latching onto it immediately. Warmth flooded his body. He somehow felt much more grounded and stable. His thoughts no longer caused him a shred of doubt at this very moment

Uteu glanced at the golden chain. Rather than a thread it was now thickened, interlocking together to form a rope chain. The chain clinked softly and glowed in content.

It was successful. Uti was now one of his Links.

The rope chain then darted out to join the other two chains to contain the star frame. It took the upper most point, flooding the entire outer layer with gold to keep it still.

This seemed to have stabilized the star. But still, the resentment was there.

Through Uti's abilities, Uteu could now tell why he was not be able to erase the resentment as easily as Uti had.

He was still rejecting it subconsciously. He still doubted himself and his own abilities.

If he wanted to do this, he would have to fully open himself up to the resentment. Uteu glanced at the golden chain and it glowed as if to encourage him.

He closed his eyes and left his mindscape. Opening his eyes his gaze was met with a large mass of black crystals. It was growing chaotically behind the sole crystal hand he was still grasping. Glancing down at Uti who still clung to him, he felt himself slowly accepting.

He was now resolved to do this in full.

Uteu let go of all his mental barriers and then, he felt himself fall.
