"Where the heck am I now?"

Grigio found himself standing on a sandy beach in the middle of nowhere when he came to next. "It's just one weird thing after another huh?" he muttered under his breath.

After he composed himself, he noticed that he seemed to have regained physical form. He was wearing his disheveled office attire which he didn't manage to change out of before drifting to sleep. He attempted to pinch himself once more. It was certainly painful, but it failed to wake him up from this strange dreamscape.

With nothing better to do, Grigio started walking along the beach. It was quite tranquil. The leaves of the palm trees swayed gently whenever the sea breeze blew over. The sound of the rustling leaves and billowing waves had a strangely calming quality to them and managed to ease Grigio's agitation a little. But he still didn't dare to let his guard down. Who knows what kind of thing would pop out next.

After walking for a while, Grigio managed to spot something which broke the monotonous scenery – a cozy looking beach house situated near the edge of the palm tree forest. He cautiously approached it.

"Finally. I was wondering when you'd get here. Hurry up and c'mon over User! Over here!"

He was startled when a bell-like voice called out from the direction of the beach house. He was surprised to find a slender elf-like girl wearing a white one-piece dress adorned with floral patterns and a sunhat. She leaned on the railings of the beach house's porch and waved energetically at him.

Grigio made his way toward her and went up the porch. When he stood in front of the girl, he found that she seemed to be in her teens. Her skin was pale but did not seem sickly. Her long hair the color of night flowed down to her slender h.i.p.s. Her irises shimmered like the starry skies and her face displayed a disarming smile.

She was certainly a very lovely girl. Grigio couldn't help but be entranced by her for a moment.

"Hello. Navigation Program to User. Snap out of it. I mean, I know I'm extremely pretty, but we have to discuss some proper business now. We don't have much time after all."

"O-kay. That certainly ruined it," Grigio inwardly grumbled. He took a seat in front of the girl and immediately fired some questions away. "Okay then. First things first: Who or what are you? Where are we and what the heck is happening to me?"

"Whoa. Slow down a bit User. Let's take it step by step shall we?" the strange girl coaxed. "Anywa-y, this is a virtual sub-space currently synched with you Soul Core frequency. Its purpose is to facilitate better interaction with the User. I'm what you may call a soul fragment assigned to serve as the Navigation Program for the Universal System Hacking Tool application. This handy app will allow you to freely modify any System program installed into specific individuals all across the multiverse after clearing some conditions. It's pretty awesome! Of course, User won't be given this ability for free. The Developer aims to have User tip the balance in the secret war between factions of an ultra-advanced multiversal empire which has been causing the structure of the True Laws to be critically damaged. Once you've managed to resolve this problem, the Developer promises to fulfill any wish you might have, as long as it doesn't directly affect the stability of the True Laws… Uh, User? Why are you face-palming?"

"Urgh. Ju- Just hold up a bit. I gotta get my shit together first."

Grigio tried to sort his addled nerves after hearing the strange girl's overly casual explanation. "So it really was a System cheat," he inwardly exclaimed. "And a System cheat to modify other System cheats to boot. Not to mention a secret war or something. The hell! I'm just your regular white-collar drone. Will I even be able to survive this shit, you damn Developer?!"

"I take it there's no chance I can walk away from all this now huh?" Grigio asked.

"Nope. You're already classified as a User. You've also likely been discovered by agents of those factions I mentioned earlier. They're definitely mobilizing their forces to secure you now. I'm afraid you just have to suck it up User."

"Damn!"

Her reply effectively quashed any form of hope Grigio had left about wanting to escape responsibility. Gritting his teeth, Grigio faced the strange girl once again and prodded her for more info. "Alright then, what do I need to do first? You're not about to send me out there blind, are you?"

The girl's smile brightened. "Of course not. That's why I'm here. I'm your personal Navigation Program. I have lots of features to assist you in your quest. Let's start with the Beginner's Tutorial." She waved her hand and the surroundings changed into some sort of sci-fi virtual grid.

"Okay. Once again, I'm your personal Navigation Program and I'm now going to walk you through a step-by-step tutorial about the functions of the Universal System Hacking Tool (Trial Version)," she began.

"Wait. Hold up. Trial Version? What's up with that?"

"Because your Synchro rate is not up to snuff yet, only the Trial Version has been installed within your Soul Code. Once you reach the required Synchro levels, the app version will be automatically updated accordingly."

Grigio paused in thought. "Is that why I didn't get this Hacking Tool thing as soon as I first transmigrated?" he curiously asked.

"Uhuh. We had to wait until your Soul Code has properly synchronized with this dimension. And it just so happened that you reached the required rate earlier tonight. So the installation process was immediately initiated," the girl confirmed. Grigio nodded in understanding and urged her to continue with the tutorial.

"Right. This is the Main Menu." The girl waved her hand once more and a predominantly neon blue holographic screen appeared in front of Grigio. "All available app functions are accessed through here. You don't need to perform any physical gestures to navigate through it in the material world. You just need to think about what you want to do and I'll handle the rest."

"There are three main areas accessible through the Main Menu screen: Registered System List, Tool Optimization and Ability Storage. Each of them holds all the various exploits you'll ever need to mod every aspect of various System Cheats derived from tampering with a particular dimension's Laws. Let's go through all of them shall we?"

The Nav girl tapped the screen and explained all the different functions one by one. "Let's look at the Registered System List sub-menu first. Here you'll find the list of all System Cheats you've managed to successfully register in the app. Once registered, you can then proceed to use the tool to modify every aspect of those Systems. For the purpose of this tutorial, we've provided a simulated sample so you can get a basic feel for it. C'mon, try it."

The girl gestured for Grigio to come closer and encouraged him to try fiddling with the holographic screen. When he did so, a list of commands immediately popped up.

"As you can see, the simulated sample we've provided is called the Supreme Basketball God System. When you tap it, this drop-down sub-menu comes up. See those icons. They represent all possible abilities this particular System grants its User – Dribbling, Passing, Shooting, Rebounding, Offense, Defence and everything in between. You can freely unlock and modify them at your own leisure – provided you have reached the required Synchro Rate with the target User and have enough Mod Points. You can see the Synchro Rate and Point bars beside the registered User's profile pictures."

"User Synchro Rate? Mod Points?"

"In order for you to successfully register and mod a System, you first need to get in contact with the User and get his, her or its consent. It's basically a contract between sentient souls. The User Synchro Rate is a quantified representation of the bond between you and a particular User. Achieving a high Synchro Rate means having an individual give you near unrestricted access to the core of his, her or its very being. It's very serious stuff. You basically get a fixed amount of Mod Points for achieving breakthroughs in the Synchro Rate between you and registered Users. The more Mod Points you have, the more you can fiddle around with a registered System's parameters. If the Synchro Rate reaches the maximum level, you're going to be given full access to the User's System. But this is quite hard to achieve. It's not impossible though, so try to do your best. Also, there's a time duration for the mods you've applied. Once they wear off, you have to reapply them again. The initial limit is twenty minutes. It'll increase as the Hacking Tool gets upgraded."

Grigio sank in thought after hearing the girl's detailed explanation. "It's more troublesome than I thought," he complained. The girl's lips curled into a wry grin after seeing his reaction.

"There's a function which can skip these general requirements of course. It's called Forced Modding, which can be accessed with the bright red exclamation point icon on the top right of the System User Profile. But you can only use it for a limited number of times. After that, the ability will enter a cooldown period – the length of which depends on several factors like the current Hacking Tool version, the target User's System Level and so on," the girl revealed. "As such, you should only use this function for emergencies. It can be an invaluable lifesaving tool when you're in a pinch. There's also a possibility of some residual negative effects on the target, so choose who you use it on wisely," she added.

"There's also a function called Forced Registration. As the name implies, it allows you to register a target User without his or her consent or knowledge. The duration the User gets to stay in your list is also limited. The exact time frame is five to fifteen minutes – depending on the Hacking Tool Version. It also carries the possibility of leaving negative effects on a User's Soul Core. If used in tandem with Forced Modding, it can be a potent deterrence against opposing System Users."

"Understood," Grigio acknowledged. "What about the other two sub-menus?"

"Let's go to the Tool Optimization sub-menu next. This sub-menu is primarily for your own use. It allows you to toggle your passive abilities on or off."

"I have passive abilities?"

"Uh-huh. You have two to be exact: System Detection and Passive Point Gain Boost," the girl confirmed. "System Detection employs a minimap that will show up kinda like a HUD display only you can see. It will display System Users in your immediate vicinity. Green ones are friendlies, red ones are hostiles and yellow ones are neutral. The point gain boost makes you emit a soul wave that would influence System Users near you. Their experience and point gains will be boosted according to your ability level, which increases as the Hacking Tool gets upgraded to newer versions. It's a sure-fire way to give permanent benefits to the registered Users under you. I guarantee that once they experience its benefits, they'll never be able to leave your side!"

Grigio wasn't sure what to feel about the prospect of weird people following him around to leech off more XP. "What about the last one?" he urged.

"Oh, you'll get a real kick from this one," the girl gushed excitedly. "
