Vastitus, Failure Planet

Chapter 7 - Set in Motion

[Delano] It was about 12:30 AM. Time to put the plan into action. I moved slowly toward the control room for security systems. I knew that Robby who had been one of my best friends would be in there for his night shift. Unfortunately I would have to get past him which may mean a fight. Robby who would work out for many times a day when he wasn't sleeping or on shift. I slowly walked down the hallway, sticking close to the wall and being careful not to be caught on the cameras. I reached the corner of the office, pressing my back against the wall while altering my breathing to be quieter. Robby came out the door for a second, pausing and then turning around to go back inside. I took my chance, jumping on to his neck and pushing through the doorway. He fell, struggling to push me off as he started to go unconscious. I took a few hits from him but it was hard for him to reach me while I was on the back of his neck. He eventually stopped struggling and fell completely unconscious. I dragged his body out of sight and looked for the air vent. The air vent was locked shut. "Oh right… I forgot to turn off air vent security." Luckily it was just across the hallway. I dashed across the hallway not having to be careful about cameras anymore because nobody was watching them. I reached the control room for air vents, and flipped the switch labeled emergency shutoff. This switch would turn off the air flowing through the vents, allowing me to crawl through with ease. Next I flipped the security system off, the switch much harder to find. I dashed back across the hallway, securing Robby so he couldn't move. Finally I took the cover off the air vent and pulled myself up into it. I began crawling.

[Jaku] Jaku had been flying for the past hour alongside Sparrow. They didn't quite know what they were looking for but they would know when they saw it.

"Hey, how about that old mining area that Narchean was talking about?" Sparrow asked.

"Hmm… I don't recall him ever saying anything about an old mining area. When did he mention it?"

"I had asked him what his armor was made out of. He told me it was made of metal from a mine before the war. He said that there was only one place on the planet you could find it. Fredlem mountain… he said he was from there by the way."

"Sparrow, if he is from there, I am sure it is a dangerous place, are you sure you want to go there?" I said, slightly worried.

"Yes, that is where all of the strongest metal is. Just think about it, no one could destroy my arm with any other metal."

I sighed, seeing how stubborn he was being. "Ok, Sparrow, I guess it could be useful to get some extra of the metal, if it is actually that good. Let's go." The flight to Fredlem was not short, but it wasn't extremely long either. The around three hour flight was uneventful, but unfortunately took us closer to territory of certain other groups, mainly the Red and Blue surges. As we approached we went into radio silence this way we would be safe from any listeners nearby. The volcano was a grand sight. It towered above the landscape, surrounding the mostly flat landscape of forests and plains it shot up into the sky. It looked strange, like an unnatural phenomena, yet somehow still a product of nature. The volcano was very wide at the base with steep slopes that rose through the clouds. We turned sharply up moving quickly along the face of the rock. Just above the clouds we reached the summit. There was a large crater, with some remnants of what we can only assume were once buildings. Our sh.i.p.s slowed as we came in for landing, they set down with a soft thud, their small figures hidden from sight by the tall crater walls.

[Delano] I finally reached the end after what seemed like a very very long time of crawling and climbing through air vents I finally got out. I twisted around and my back cracked with many loud popping noises. "Ahhh," I sighed feeling the pain from my back disappear, I started to run as quietly as I was capable of, across the rooftop. Luckily for me it was still early morning. After running across almost a mile of rooftop I reached the smooth edge, sliding down it to reach the bottom. It was only a half klick to the forest. I sprinted full speed to the edge, and then before slipping into the woods, I made the mistake of looking back.

Two guards stepped out of the front gate. "There!" He pointed at me "movement in the woods, sector 3" he yelled. I heard the alert start.

"Crap," I whispered to myself. Now I would have to run the whole way. So I started. Eventually, I reached a mountain. Deciding, that it would take too much time to go around it, and they would probably not see me I started climbing. I should mention, that I am a very good climber, I spent a good part of my life either in a climbing gym, actually rock climbing, or climbing in small ducts and passageways that I probably shouldn't have been in. After a few hours of climbing, I was resting on a ledge to regain my strength when I noticed the view. It added a sense of scale to the place, being high up on the mountain I could see across plains and forests I saw waterfalls and big rivers, and the base that I came from was barely a small dot in the landscape. I turned around and began climbing again, soon I reached the top. I lifted myself over the edge, rolling down into the sudden pit below. I opened my eyes only to find myself in another bad situation, there were two people in front of me. One, in red armor, was holding a knife to my throat and the unarmored one, with a robotic arm, was giving me a very menacing stare.
