Chapter 26 - The Award Ceremony

When Sirius entered the main hall, he was completely shocked. The pearl white pillars had red dr.a.p.es coiling around it. The walls were dr.a.p.ed with red and gold curtains. The chandeliers looked like crystals that released a golden colored light. There was a silver carpet leaded him to the stage. He had quickly recovered, and continued to walk to the stage. When he got there he was told to sit down on a seat next to others. He looked at the others on the stage, and they all had a noble air around them. He recognized one of then as Daniel Rose, his roommate, before the king made rules about otherworlders going to branch academies. He liked the most c.o.c.ky, as if this is all for him. He then looked at everyone else's face, and realized that they all had similar look.

'Why do they all look like that? Did they contribute to the stopping of the enemy raid that much?'

Then all the guests start to show up, and the tables start filling up. Sirius assumes that they were all nobles. Then the ceremony began.

"We are here to celebrate these youngsters for stopping an enemy raid at this fort. I, Marquis Don, will present them the rewards in order of most contribution to least contribution. First is Sylvia Ester, daughter of Duke Ester. She will be awarded the title knight and a peak grade rare fire blade for destroying the lab that the enemies were after. Next is Daniel Rose, son of Duke Rose. He will be awarded the title knight and a late-grade ice spear for killing two official tier combatants. Next is Evan Hazer, grandson of Duke Hazer. He will be awarded the title knight and the mid-grade steel sword 'Feathered blade' for capturing three enemies. Finally is Sirius, a commoner. He will be awarded with the title squire and three low-grade experience potions for killing an assassin and injuring another."

While he was speaking, Sirius noticed something about the speaker and the crowd. When they were talking about the kids of the dukes, everyone clapped and looked proud and sincerely appreciative, but when he was mentioned, the distaste on everyone's face was as clear as day. He reasoned that maybe the others accomplishments weren't as good as they sounded, and that they probably had a outside help, but he couldn't say anything about it out of fear of punishment from the nobles. When the ceremony was over, they went down from the stage to eat the banquet that was set. The others were congratulated, and praised constantly about their futures, while those who talked him did so in an arrogant manner. He even heard in some conversations that this was the peak of his life, or that he somehow fooled the higher ups into giving him awards. It was upsetting to hear this. When he went to the others for a chat, they all just glared at him until he left. He then decided that it was best to leave early. Then next day, he got a letter from his professor on getting a title. Later that day a guard came in.

"Squire Sirius, since you now have a title, you will be transferred to Fort Geret, the fort closest to the dark forest. When you get there, you will be placed in the hunting department, in which you would be responsible for getting resources out the forest. You will be sent there tomorrow, so pack your bags."

The guard then left, leaving Sirius alone with his thoughts.
