VRMMORPG [Brink]: For The Money

Chapter 11 - Bandit Extermination 2 - preparations

"You're late! I've been waiting since forever."

"It's only a few minutes why are you always exaggerating stuff?"

"I'm not exaggerating. Did you want this or not?"

Calming down the old man who act like a child I praised him with "you were the only awesome smith I know" and stuff until he calmed down.

The first thing I pick up on the table is Knife Ejector because of its previous flaw which make "clank-clank" sound. I shook it up and down it still makes the clank-clank sound but not as loud and the sound become less noticeable if I don't move my hands fast. I won't move my hands like this in the stealth state of course but anything better is always good furthermore if the price is the same.

Next, I look at the body armor and it change with an upgrade or simply attached. It now had eight throwing dagger sheath, four on each side diagonally. At the back, it had two downward position on each of my shoulder blade and three on each side of my lower back. Fourteen in total. I wore it and feels pretty comfortable. It's like a skin on top of my skin. Plain weird but fine.

"It looks good on you but be careful on the edge of the sheath, the connection is a bit brittle there. Overall it's good though."

When I want to put the pants I get to laugh at by Verm because I still using the poor quality u.n.d.e.r.w.e.a.r/boxer. His pity and funny face still doesn't disappoint me, it is annoying. Even though he gave me an uncommon quality boxer later after his laughing fit it is still annoying. Yes, I need to tell it twice because of how infuriating he is.

Then, I noticed a two sheath on the side of the pants. I don't know how I didn't notice this before I put it on. This is probably a sheath for the twin estoc. I looked at the creator and he's grinning thru his ear.

"You didn't notice the sheath until you put it on right? It has no floppiness even though there is no weapon in there. Try to put the estoc in. now pull it out. You can't right? It's because I put a spiral kinda thing on the ring that will hold the weapon in place. To pull it out you must twist it an inch to the right and then two inch to the left. Reversed it for the left one. I'm awesome right? I know I am."

"Indeed. What about the last weapon? The dirk."

I replied with no smile on my face.

"I don't know I forgot about that one. It's insignificant and you can store it with your stiletto. By the way about your stiletto, it cracks after I repair it because I left it in the freezing temperature for too long, but worry not in few days I'll get an ice magic stone so I can enchant it with ice attribute later."

No longer listening to the blabbering old man I put on everything on the table and check their attribute.

After I put everything on I feel powerful and criminal like. With this, I'm totally 100% suspicious person. Then a notification pop-up in front of my face. I make a pushing motion and it's getting farther from my face into my preference position. I shouldn't have mess with the default setting.

『Creep set activated. +35% stealth effect.』

"It's fit. Right, look at the knife ejector butt-end on the left. You see a hole there? Pour the poison inside the hole don't overflow it. With my modification, the poison will soak the dagger inside perfectly. After you release all the dagger inside you need to refill the poison, one pouch can last for 60-70 use, probably, I don't really experiment on it. Now put your dagger inside and let's see if it's works, follow me."

I putted all three dagger inside and follow him to his backyard. The yard is pretty big around 15 meter long and 10 meter wide. At the far end, I can see five target with red and white circle alternately.

"Now stand here and hit that wooden target. Try to hit the red dot on the middle. In case you don't know that the red dot can tell us about your accuracy. If you can hit it 8 out of 10 then you are pretty average."

I'm touch you told me a common sense even children would know but throw away that smug face of yours. My internal struggle of course left unanswered.

"How? I didn't see any button or something similar."

"You just need to insert your force to launch it, it's like a string on the bow. As simple as that."

"I don't know how."

"What? You can't control your own force? What a helpless lad you are. Don't you have that palm strike of yours? That one use force as its based energy. Try to release that skill… how is it? Can you feel a kind of flow streaming in your body into your palm? That's the force, you only need to cut off or divert the flow into the weapon… well, you'll probably need to practice it a few times before you can learn how to control it."

Please stop smiting me in any opportunity you got.

Sighing, I know this is just the way he is and move on into more important matter which is to control the flow of my force. When I did my first experiment it rebound and I can't spam the skill. I even get a damaged notification and need to wait for ten second it's not that long but the damage from the rebound is bothering me. No matter how small it is, the damage will acc.u.mulate and kill me eventually if my recovery rate can't catch up with it.

On my fourth experiment, I finally need to drink my first health potion on my inventory. I never really get the chance to try it before, I mean on my first battle I always get insta-kill by those large chicken and I don't want to waste it if I don't need it so this is my first time putting this red liquid in my mouth.

While drinking the bitter red liquid called health potion I notice in my skill list I still have another skill I didn't try yet. Swift Step is the name of the skill I acquire from achievement if I recall correctly. Once again, I feel my unfamiliarity with the game system trolled me or maybe it's just me that too ignorant of my own skill set. Whatever the reason was I need to be sharper for my own good.

Finally, on my twentieth tries, I did it without repercussion. Still, I need to practice some more until I can perform it to its final form or in short useful in-battle. I left with six bottle of health potion left though, I probably need to go buy some more.

I don't know how long I trained here and it shouldn't be that long but at last, I mastered how to aim correctly and how to launch the dagger silently.

"What a slow-ass I already finish my ale long time ago. I think you are ready now to head into battle to hunt those pests. Ahh! I forgot to ask, what level are you currently right now? 8? What about your job? 5? That's pretty low."

Staggered when ask what level my job was I answered while looking at my status. I didn't even know that job had a different level altogether.

Ahh! No wonder I didn't noticed that I had one. After all, it doesn't give me any status point. Is it because I'm still trainee? Wait, I did receive one status point. So it means I get 0.2 per level. I don't have any basis to prove my theory but let's just it is correct for now.

I open the menu and check the forum about job and found: first, each character can had 3 job at the same time; second, job can be classified into three different categories, battle oriented, support oriented, and crafting oriented; third, job need the experience to level up and it can be get from, using skills, job quest, or converting EP to experience; four, job can be combine to create a more powerful job if the requirement is fulfil; five, player can combine two or three different job to create a personalize job; six, after combination the player can see their own job tree; seven….

Too many to remember but at least I know six of them.

"Your level is way too low I don't know if you can kill them all- wait, maybe if you pick them one by one you'll still has a 40% chance to finish this mission. But before you are going you need to get Titan emblem for prove so the soldier won't ask too much of question."

"How can I get that emblem? Should I ask one from him? And why would you be so wary of the soldier?"

"He'll give you one if you ask him. Don't tell him you want to hunt for bandit though. Did you remember the other quest I gave to you? Yeah, looking for prove of noble involvement with the bandit group. Later, after you find the prove be it from a doc.u.ment or catch one in-action report it to Titan then he'll do the rest."

"Okay then, I'll be going. I'll see you soon after I find your ring."

"Wait! Don't show the soldier the ring I told you to find okay?"

Now, this old guy feels kind of weird and suspicious. He tried to hide something but his face, he really can't lie. Should I dig? Or let it go? I grinned evilly unrestrained. Controlling my expression I turn my body towards him again but this time with a super serious face.

Then, I stared into his eyes for a few seconds and ask "did you hide something from me? If you hide something I should know maybe I couldn't finish the quest you've given. Or… there is many ifs in this world. You said so yourself. I don't want to feel betrayed later when I found out the truth you know. Even though I'm not an avenger being betrayed never ever will be a good experience. Just know this, I trust you. Don't betray my trust I placed on you."

"What? Why are you getting serious all of sudden? Fine. It's actually like this, the ring I told you to find is fill to the brimmed with Bloodstone and here in this country there is a law about the regulation of bloodstone. At most one store can only have 200 grams a year and we can only buy it from commerce association. Even though they were expensive it has many use but they had few flaws as well."

"So how much is inside the ring?" furrowed my brows at him.

"Well, around 50 kg. Actually, I don't mind if those bloodstones get confiscated but there is dagger inside, a curse dagger enchant with bloodstone and made from the fang of blood dragon, blood wolves, blood serpent, vampire prince, bloodwing concubine, and few other blood races. That weapon was my first legendary item and the most powerful item I ever created. I don't tell you this previously because most people did not even know that beside legendary, artefact, and unique there is another one which is labelled as curse item because of their trait, some may kill their owner, some may make their owner go batshit crazy, and etc."

"What the heck! Some people only had a few hundreds gram for their use in a year and you said you had 50 kg. How come they can get their hands on your item with that value kind of value? The dagger sounds cool though tell me more about the dagger."

"I planned to but you interrupted me before I finish my story. Wait I shall get us some dinner before continuing." I stopped him from walking away toward his kitchen inside and bring him to the chairs below the tree besides the shooting range target instead. If I let him go the story will strayed and wouldn't finish until tomorrow morning, and its midday right now.

"Are you sure we shouldn't get a dinner? The story would have more impact with food on the table you know. It's okay if we get dinner fast later if I get hungry I will get another dinner. So continuing our story from before, it was a long time ago before I met my wife I always aspire to be a legendary smith but my skill at that time can't really help me to create one. So I hoard rare and epic material even legendary. At first, I don't have any idea what should I make with all materials I amass, then I found a dragon lair in a mountain and the owner is not at home so I looked around and found a bloodstone as big as a great-dragon head. I took it home of course. Then…."
