War-Gods Trip To The Future

Chapter 22 - The Second Memory

After getting in the van and making sure Miko was in a condition to drive, Ye Sakura was about to relax in her seat when a familiar sensation hit her before going into a daze. She was receiving another memory.

A little girl with pink hair who looked to be about five years of age was sitting in a room full of dolls, stuffed animals, and toys. She was playing with one of the dolls excitedly as the door to the room opened and a young woman slowly stumbled in with tears falling from her eyes. The girl continued to play not noticing the women slowly inch closer and closer to her.

When the women reached the girl, she picked her up pulling her into her arms. She then collapsed to the ground all the while hugging the little girl before crying her heart out.

"Mommy?" the little girl asked confused, not knowing what this situation meant. But the woman just continued to cry so the little girl didn't receive a reply.

A week went by, and every night the girl's mother would come into her room after coming home from her job and hug her while crying. The little girl had been so focused on the strange behavior of her mother throughout the week that she did not realize till just now that she had not seen her father since before her mother started acting like this.

While dr.a.p.ed by her mother's arms and feeling the cloth of her shirt on her shoulder becoming wet with tears, the girl asked, "Mommy… where is Daddy?"

Hearing the question that her daughter just asked, her crying only worsened and she ended up never answering the question. Not getting an answer, the little girl started crying too.

The next day her grandfather arrived instead of her mother.

"My little Sakura, I have come here today to pick you up. From now on, you will be living with me," her grandfather said.

He then told the maid who helped take care of her little sister to go in to the other room and bring her as well.

"But what about Mommy and Daddy?" she couldn't help but ask.

"They went on a long trip and it's uncertain when they will be back." her grandfather lied without a moment's hesitation.

A few years went by before she found out what had really happened. That first night her mother came to her crying, her father's plane had earlier that day gone missing flying over the ocean and was never found. And on the day that her grandfather had come to pick her and her sister up, her mother had ended up taken her own life in her grief. After she found out, she had locked herself in her room and cried for three days straight.

The reason it took so long for her to understand what had really happened was that her grandfather had ordered everyone who worked in the house and or near it (maids, cooks, gardeners, etc.) to not let his two granddaughters find out the truth until he felt they were ready to hear it or else they would be fired immediately. She was also homeschooled along with her sister so they never had a chance to hear of it from an outside source.

She had only learned about it after over hearing a couple of the maid's chat about the subject and true to her grandfather's words, they were both fired the next day.

Later, not long after her tenth birthday, she had been watching a superhero show with her sister when she had a thought. If this superhero was real, could he have saved my parents? Could I be a superhero and save someone's parents?

After that, she made a promise with herself that she would one day save someone's life in hopes of not letting their family lose someone precious to them. She would then continuously beg her grandfather to help her with this goal. He finally relented and set up a charity in her name saying that doing so would help save people.

Even though she was a bit disappointed that she was unable to save people like the superhero in that show did, she was still happy.

Lord Masao was in the middle of doing paperwork when he couldn't help but take a break. He then started talking to himself as he liked talking even though there was no one around.

"Oh, how I wish we switched to using technology that gave us the ability to go paperless like the humans have… ah, speaking of humans, I wonder how those two are doing…"

"Hopefully they are progressing well, if they don't release the energy that curse has built up by breaking it, magic will never return to the world."

"Hmmm, I forgot to tell them that that organization that wiped magic out still exists… they are going to have to take care of them as well once they bring back the magic as well…"

"Oh well, they should be able to figure it out!"

Saying that he went back to his work.
