Warlord Of Chaos

Chapter 17 - The Traitor

Cessacioun raised his hand and released a water ball. Keeley shuddered as the cold water hit her face. But when she managed to open her eyes, she was scared by the extremely ugly face in front of her, and screamed while crawling backwards with both her hands and legs.

"Don't be afraid, Miss Keeley. I am your friend." Han Jin tried to calm her down.

Keeley turned her head, but when she saw Han Jin, there was no expression of friendliness shown on her face. Instead, she ground her teeth and bitterly said, "It's you!"

"Yes, it's me, Raphael." Han Jin made a dry cough.

Keeley glanced at them one by one and suddenly cried, "Uncle Hoffman! Where is Uncle Hoffman?!"

Han Jin and Moxinke looked at each other. They both understood that the warriors had knocked out Keeley and hid her in the hole because the situation had become too urgent. Keeley definitely still had some memories about it as well. If they were to lie to her, not only would she not believe them, but she would also consider them as enemies.

"You need to calm down." Upon seeing the distressed expression on the faces of Han Jin and Moxinke, Sunier stood up and said in a soft voice, "You are the only survivor."

Keeley's body trembled. She turned around unexpectedly and tried to run forward, but she was stopped by Moxinke.

"Get out of my way!" Keeley screamed.

"Calm down, Miss Keeley. It's better for you to not go there," Moxinke tried to persuade her, his eyes dodging hers. He felt too guilty to even look her in the face.

"Get out of my way!" Keeley shouted again and again, pushing Moxinke away with all her strength.

But Moxinke remained standing without moving. It was too bloody of a scene, and he was afraid that Keeley would not be able to handle it and might faint again.

Keeley cried more, and more fiercely, with her hands pounding and her feet kicking at Moxinke, but Moxinke just stood still like a mountain. After some time, Keeley became exhausted, and her footsteps staggered.

"Miss Keeley? You have to calm down!" Sunier shouted. "What is the use of running wild? Will that make you forget the pain, or bring back the lives of your soldiers?"

Keeley turned around suddenly and stared at Sunier. "You said that I am the only survivor?"

"Yes."

"Since they could face death fearlessly while trying to protect me, why can't I have the courage to bid them farewell?" Keeley said this word by word. Her voice was calm and cold. She tried her best to control her emotions, but her tears continued to roll down her cheeks.

Sunier was stunned for a moment after hearing Keeley, and with a bitter smile, she said, "Moxinke, make way. She's right."

Moxinke turned to Han Jin for help, but Han Jin just sighed. "Let her go."

Not only Sunier, but also Han Jin had been touched by Keeley's reasoning. If they stopped her from seeing her family for the last time, she would hate them all her life.

Moxinke stepped aside helplessly, and saw Keeley stumbling forward. They followed her while feeling heartbroken as they saw the exhausted Keeley being tripped by stones and branches on the ground, or even trunks that could have been easily dodged.

Moxinke wanted to help her, but was stopped by Han Jin. What they should do now was to leave her alone and let her hysterically vent all of her emotions, because this was the only way for her to feel better.

Keeley tumbled onto the battlefield and stopped in front of the man that had died with the human-faced eagle. She thudded down heavily onto the ground with her knees and her shoulders fiercely trembling, but there was no crying sound heard.

She didn't know that at this moment, her actions were not only torturing herself mentally, but also torturing Moxinke. As for Han Jin, he was a strange person. He was capable of controlling his thoughts; if he thought that a certain thought would trigger negative emotions, he would choose not to think about it. However, Moxinke couldn't. Therefore, the harder Keeley cried, the more he felt guilty and remorseful. But he could only silently endure it.

Han Jin then realised that he should do something to divert Moxinke's attention, so he walked to the headless body slowly and observed it for a long time. He then let out a deliberate cold laugh.

"What did you find?" Sunier asked. She walked over, and Moxinke and Cessacioun followed.

"This man was not killed by the human-faced eagles. It couldn't have bitten off half of his head!" Han Jin said in a slow voice, and continued, "Did you see his wound? It is obviously formed by a large blunt weapon or some heavy object."

Sunier looked at it closer and frowned. "You mean, someone attacked them?"

"I think so." Han Jin's eyes turned cold. "And I think I know who this traitor is after seeing Miss Keeley."

"Who?" Moxinke asked urgently.

"We know him."

Moxinke was dumbfounded for a moment and it suddenly hit him. "The dwarf forging master called Villar?" The dwarf's forging hammer fit the description of a large blunt weapon, and would be able to cause precisely such a wound!

"Yes, it's him." Han Jin sighed. "A traitor will always be a traitor; you can never believe them again. Since he can betray Miss Keeley once, he can betray her twice, and thrice. It is such a pity that Miss Keeley was so kind to keep him by her side! If it were me, I would have killed that dwarf the first time he betrayed me! He must have been filled with resentment after being forced to sign the slave contract. It is impossible for him to be loyal to Miss Keeley, so when he got the chance, he took his revenge."

"That monster!" Moxinke shouted angrily. "I will definitely kill him!"

"I will too." Han Jin uttered this slowly. Since Moxinke had found a way to vent his emotions, he also felt relieved.

"A dwarf forging master? How could he hurt a soldier?" Sunier was suspicious about that.

"Not only is he a forging master, but he is also a high-grade fighting dwarf," replied Han Jin.

"Even if he is a high-grade fighting dwarf, it is too arbitrary to assert that he is a traitor." Sunier didn't give in. "What if it's not him?"

"It's easy to testify. You can ask Miss Keeley whether the dwarf is on her team or not when she calms down. Then everything will be clear. I have checked everywhere, and there are no remains of the dwarf here," Han Jin said expressionlessly. "And, don't you forget that I am a prophet; though I can't see our future yet, I believe in my instinct."

Since Han Jin had already put it this way, there was no need for Sunier to refute any more, so she turned away to face somewhere else.

"Sunier, it seems like... you have a soft spot for the dwarf," Han Jin lightly said.

"Oh..." A trace of change occurred in Sunier's eyes, but she instantly recovered. "Nah, you're wrong about that. It's just that I am a very serious person."
