Warlord Of Chaos

Chapter 84 - Strange Magic

Sunier was a little bit irritated. She backhandedly drew out a magic arrow and pulled her longbow again, but the other two vampires had both swooped down when they had seen the archer below them, making it hard for Sunier to lock on her target.

The vampires seemed extremely excited after mixing themselves into the crowd. There were only ordinary villagers around them, which allowed them to slaughter to their heart's content. They were sliding among the crowd like fish in the water. Each time they waved their sharp claws, one more fresh life would be taken away. The harsh sound of cries were rising and falling everywhere.

The villagers became even more terrified when they heard fellow humans scream. They randomly ran in all directions, crying and colliding with each other. The weak ones were directly knocked down and stomped by the countless feet of their own companions. Though they weren't being killed by vampires, they were being seriously injured by the stampede of their companions. How ironic.

Moxinke flared up into a fury, but he could not catch up with or aim at the vampires among the crowd. Cessacioun and Sunier also stood by anxiously. They could not lock on to their targets either.

"Get down!!" Han Jin shouted with maximum effort.

Most of the villagers immediately laid down when they heard Han Jin shouting. Those who missed it also subconsciously went prone when seeing the abnormal actions of those around them. Though their actions were disordered, their purpose was realized. Finally, only the vampires were standing.

"Go to hell!" Moxinke shouted. The sword in his hand turned into a brilliant river of stars and swirled toward the vampire standing nearest to him.

It gave an ugly smile, and quickly stepped backwards.

Moxinke made another leap into the sky and chased after it without giving up. The vampire's face turned more ferocious when it found itself being targeted by Moxinke. It let out a shrill sound. Two other vampires simultaneously came to flank Moxinke.

Moxinke showed no signs of fear. The moment they were going to collide, a ray of dazzling light exploded. Countless rays of golden light were shot out like numerous arrows against all objects within the range of a few dozen meters in diameter, draping the crowd, the vampires, and Moxinke in a golden halo.

Three vampires gave out a heart rending cry at the same time, but Moxinke was unaffected. The speed of his sword accelerated all of a sudden. Brilliant starlight pierced through the vampire's c.h.e.s.t and came out from its back, together with a flurry of dark-red blood.

Good cooperation needed actual combat training. In the previous attacks by the vampires, Han Jin would first release his magic, before Moxinke and the rest launched their attacks. The benefit of such a method was that the fighting became much easier, while the downside was that stronger vampires could immediately make adjustments and escape, then come back with more of its friends for revenge.

As such, the group had adjusted their strategy. The goal was now to kill all the enemies without leaving them any chance to escape.

Sunier loosened her finger. An arrow shot out precisely into the ear of one vampire, and stabbed deep into its head.

The vampire staggered a few steps back, and thudded down on a girl in her twenties. She didn't dare raise her head. The sudden slimy feeling which came from her neck frightened her into screaming.

Cessacioun had also raised his staff. A streak of twisted lightning plummeted down from the air, hitting the last vampire. If their enemies were ghosts, Han Jin's strange magic would have been the most effective, followed by Cessacioun's, but vampires were different. Lightning brought no harm to the vampire at all, and merely scratched their skin.

Moxinke exerted strength to his right hand and was about to draw his long sword to kill the last vampire, but the vampire in front of him suddenly firmly grabbed the edge of the sword. The nails on its right hand streaked across the air with a shrill sound and came directly for Moxinke's waist.

Moxinke was startled. He immediately loosened his hand and stepped a few paces back. The vampire stared at him with its gleaming, scarlett eyes that were filled with monstrous hatred. With its left hand firmly holding the blade, he slowly pulled the sword out from his body.

Moxinke was completely astonished. He had killed lots of vampires along the way, but this one was the most tenacious one he had ever seen!

The vampire took a deep breath. Suddenly, a puff of green stuff spat out from its mouth.

"Ah!" A woman jumped up abruptly after a loud scream. The green thing was precisely stuck on her back. She went stiff. Then, a cloud of thick mist rose from her body. All her muscles were corroding at an extremely fast rate. In a blink of an eye, her body had become a pale skeleton.

They were all struck dumb with fear. Sunier bent her long bow again. Another arrow was soundlessly shot out. The vampire raised its arm to quickly cover its face and warded the arrow off.

"Crack Crack..." It grinned nastily, and took another deep breath.

Without retrieving his sword, Moxinke immediately retreated at his fastest speed, but no matter how fast he ran, his speed was still inferior to that of the magic. A rain made of black-red blood drops fell down from midair and swept across everyone laying around.

Moxinke's expression changed dramatically. He had no idea what kind of magic it was, nor did he know whether his protective strength of fighting was enough to defend against it. The rain of blood had covered too large of an area for him to dodge.

Just at this critical moment, a wooden giant appeared in front of him out of nowhere. Though the rain of blood forced it to stagger back, it still managed firmly shield Moxinke.

Heart-rending cries echoed across the field. Those still lying on the ground were not as lucky as Moxinke. Around thirty of them were caught by the blood rain. They tumbled, struggled, and screamed.

No matter how strong the vampire's body was, its eyes were fragile; it had to close its eyes due to the flashing of the golden light. Sunier's arrow accurately pierced into the vampire's open mouth. The next moment, a streak of fire soared into the sky, turning the vampire into a giant ball of flame from inside out.

It shrillily screamed and could no longer release its magic. If the fire was just burning the outside of its body, it might have been able to resist the damage, but now, it was burning from the inside.

The last vampire was going to launch attacks to assist its companion, but it retreated aside in a hurry when it saw the dark-red blood rain; it was afraid of such magic as well. Now that its companion had become a ball of fire and was still burning, it realized the situation had gone beyond salvation and there was no hope for it to fight anymore. Thus, it turned into a strangely-shaped bat again, fluttered its wings, and fled into the sky.

Cessacioun sneered. He had just finished his long incantation, and when he saw that his intended target had fled, he pointed his magic wand toward the sky. The bat let out a shrill cry, and plummeted down to the ground. Its wings were still flapping, but it couldn't lift its body back into the air no matter what. For any flying creature, gravitation was an irresistible spell. A dragon could ignore the spell with its sheer magic resistance, but a vampire couldn't.

Moxinke dashed forward with his body swirling and picked up his long sword that had been thrown away by the vampire. Once again, the sword unleashed luminous radiance while Moxinke's body brushed against that of the vampire. A burning head soared into the sky. The vampire staggered, and thudded down.

Moxinke didn't stop, and his bright sword slammed down again. The bat immediately returned to its humanoid form when he realized the situation was dire, but before he could climb up, a puff of golden light had exploded in front of its eyes. The next moment, Moxinke's greatsword fell onto its head.

It was much harder than Moxinke had expected. With a loud sound of a collision, his sword bounced away, along with the vampire. It was heavily thrown onto the ground by the force of both the sword and the gravity. Regardless, Moxinke managed to test the hardness of the vampire's skull with his sword, which was a win in his books.

He raised his sword again without leaving time for the vampire to breath. This time, he thrusted down his sword like a lighting bolt and pierced directly through the vampire's neck, pinning it on the ground.

Han Jin walked slowly toward it and waved his hand. A charm floated down, which turned into a curtain of golden light when it touched the vampire's body, and enveloped it inside. The vampire struggled for a while and finally became motionless.

Screams from the crowd gradually died down. Of course, that didn't mean the villagers had recovered. The silence meant death.

"What the hell was that? How is it possible that the vampires can release magic?" Moxinke shouted. His heart was still fluttering with fear.

"I don't know." Sunier moved closer to them, her expression very heavy. "I've never heard of any vampire that can release magic before."

"What about you, Cessacioun? Have you heard of such a vampire?"

"Me neither." Cessacioun cracked a wry smile.

"We may have killed someone important, and..." Sunier stopped.

"And what?" Moxinke asked.

"And gotten ourselves into big trouble..." Sunier let out a slight sigh.
