Werewolves And Vampires - A Shapeshifter's Tale

Chapter 27 - 1.27 Fish And Ch.i.p.s London Style

After I had made an estimate recce on that area, I headed back to Griffin's for a quick lunch. Once again I edited those pictures that seem irrelevant to be sent over to Leonard and after I had gone through once more, I made a folder and sent the pictures through the built-in WIFI of the P900 through my phone.

It took several minutes before I had completed the process. After that, since I've got nothing much to do, I had a cold shower and ordered a gallon of coke and a bucket of ice.

The same procedures were made to the gallon of coke and I decided to dump the ice on the sink and soak my drink in there. After the pictures had been sent to the cloud services, I looked at the pictures once more and had decided to fly my drone opposite the riverbank.

There were a few warehouses there and would easily conceal me. I took out my camo kind of poncho that would make a perfect 'ghillie' suit to properly break out the shape of me as I would be lurking around the warehouses to man the drone.

Luckily I had brought my P900 or else I won't be able to get any closeups of the back and front of the 3 villas. I poured myself a coke from the sink into my glasses that I had not returned since last night and let out a burp once I had drunk almost half of the glasses content.

"Seems like a great spot to recon from here. There's a ladder at the side of the warehouse where I could climb to the top. And I could easily break my shape with the 'ghillie' poncho I've got. The only thing is that the darn corrugated tin roof would still be hot or warm after dusk. Hmmm... Maybe I should leave after supper." I thought to myself as I lay down on the lower bunk with my boots on and planned for tonight's recce.

The phone rang on my side table and answered. It was the receptionist and she asked if I would be having dine-in dinner since the men would be heading elsewhere to fish near the Isle or something.

I quickly replied it would be dining in and I would most probably be done by 7 pm and replaces the receiver down. Time to get some shut-eye now.

.....

At 7 pm I awoke and did a quick preen with the bathroom's mirror. I went down and took a seat at one of the tables that faces the main entrance and ordered dinner.

It was fresh from one of the local seafood markets and I had a seafood platter with fish and ch.i.p.s and a large bowl of cold serve coleslaw. There were shrimps, crayfish and a mini lobster baked to perfection.

"Missus, do you always travel alone to these parts? We rarely have line travellers, especially us ladies." the waitress came over to my table and greeted me since I was alone.

"Well, I've got to get out of my space once in a while and enjoy nature as it goes. I was from Georgia lately and I made a stopover here and then would be taking a flight out in a few days time. Gonna head back to the town and let loose a few party animals there."

"You're from upstate, I reckon. Yeah, those endless paper chasing would really make one older than it is. What are you working as, missus?"

"Oh... I'm a lawyer from the Barnes office in New York City. Just laying back and lose myself in this laid back towns really helps me to relax and not think of work." (I made up about Barnes office since I saw a Barnes and Noble paper bag at the end of the hallway near a stack of books)

"Ah...a lawyer... Must be earning big bucks in the city."

"Well, kinda. City life is too expensive. It is not that a $20 bill could stretch for a day here. Over there it ain't enough to last for an hour. Do you get what I mean? We earn as much as we spend."

"Sigh...Well, that's the perk of working and living in the city suppose. Well, gonna be busying myself in the kitchen now. I'd come back and accompany you with dessert. How about clam chowder with freshly baked baguette afterwards?"

"That would be fine, thank you. This platter gonna keep me busy for another hour or so. Mind if you could throw me some fish tempura and a bucket of coleslaw when you're here again. These fish really is delicious. Hehehehe." I laughed as I cracked open the lobster claw with the metal pincers.

"Oh, alright would do. Be back in 30." the waitress replied as she disappeared behind the counter and into the kitchen.

I soon enjoyed the rest of the dinner as Beast and Spotty had their sustenance filled for tonight, I'm relying on their sense of smell and sight as well as their stealth and climbing abilities.

It is going to be the helluva night it would be, sneaking out in the middle of the night and return by daybreak I suppose.

"What time do the guys come back from their trip?" I asked the waitress the moment I saw her appear at the counter again.

"Normally they would be gone for 2 nights, it would be a 3 days trip so they took turns for each captain to man the boat. Only Mr Griffin stays back since he had retired from fishing years ago."

"Oh... Why's that?" I asked since normally old salt won't retire from fishing that easily.

"He saw a sea monster once and had climbed off the deck of his boat and wrecked it into half. He was fishing for squids when it happened. The sea monster happened to trail the bright dragon light at the back of his boat and climbed aboard."

"He was scared shirtless and decides to end his fishing career. He doesn't even dare to fish from the shoreline even... Except maybe from his bedroom window after he used a 14 feet rod. Hahahahaha." the waitress chuckled and I was thinking this she too can spin a little tale.

I laughed after hearing her last part of the story and she served my 3 pieces of fish patties when it was ready. I loved the way it was traditionally prepared especially when the batter was mixed with beer and deep-fried. It gives off a slightly malty taste for me.

Author's Note:

Just like the way they served in the grounds where I used to live on Smith Street in Liverpool, where they served fish and ch.i.p.s on pushcarts back then when I was studying near the Uni.
