What A Dream Wants

Chapter 7 - Steven Exits School

Outside the classroom, his peers formed a crowd.

Conversations were flying around. Through the mumbling, Steven heard answers to some of the questions:

"What did you get for the question about the protective relay? Curry, what did you get?" asked his classmate... Jackal?

"It was asking for the basic functions. It's like a fire alarm that detects unhealthy parts and isolates it or alarms the machine of the problem." Curry replied to Jackal.

"Well... how was I supposed to know that?" Jackal sighed.

"What about the battery question? Which battery would have been the cheapest and most efficient?" Jin asked.

"Maybe... the alkaline?" Sage said, unsurely.

"Zinc is the cheapest though..." Melody replied back.

"Lithium is the most efficient, but it sure isn't cheap." Sad softly murmured.

"Was anyone able to finish the design?" Jackal asked.

"I was, but not sure if mine was that good..." Melody said. "I only studied some robotics at middle school. I think some of us haven't even taken these classes. The test was a bit unfair... We only had forty minutes."

"I think I failed..." someone murmured.

"I probably failed too. It's okay." Steven consoled the girl.

"Yeah... I messed up on one question." The girl said back.

Steven stared..."Wait... you're in our class?"

"I'm Myosotis, You know... Um... You can call me Mayo. That was what most people called me anyways." The girl asked hurriedly.

"Oh," Steven replied. He was pretty sure most people skipped the first chapter.

"It's fine." She said, walking away. She was unsure why Steven didn't ask her why her nickname was Mayo, but then again, it would be a long backstory for another day.

Steven walked to the end of the hall. The doors that separated him from freedom awaited him. He pushed open the doors. He stepped out.

Instantly, it was as if life turned around for the better. The sunlight greeted him with gentle warmth. The bird's melodies formed a symphony of nature's sounds. The light breeze fluttered through the grass and the leaves of the trees. It left the faint trail of summer behind, introducing Autumn.

He started walking to the dorms he would reside at for the time being.

"Hey Steven," A guy approached him.

"Hey... you're Zero?" Steven guessed.

"Yeah, do you live in the dorms?" Zero asked.

"My home's quite far away from here, so I have to." He replied back.

"Far wouldn't even describe how far my home is." Zero laughed. "Actually, many people live in the dorms. This academy's pretty secluded."

"Oh."

Zero stared at the sky for a while...

Because he thought one of the clouds looked like a bunny, and oh wow it really did, like wow that is a cute bunny, before asking:

"Steven, Ya Zholtiy a te Reka."

"What? Chto vy imeyete v vidu?"

Zero smiled softly.

"Have... we've met before?" Steven asked, perplexed.

"Yeah," Zero replied tenderly. He looked at the grass. A cute worm was on top of it.

Then, he suddenly shouted: "Lookout!"

"Huh?" Steven asked before he heard-

"Remember me?" A guy bellowed out. He was like a bull that was ready to charge. With a full circle of rage and a few stampedes of rage, Zero happened to be wearing the most provocative color today: red.

"No," Zero said.

"Wait... isn't he Bull E? The guy who was pummeling you at lunch?" Steven asked curiously.

For a second, Zero's eyes seemed to have slightly rolled upwards.

"Bwa ha ha ha hah!" Bull E. laughed, looking down at Zero. "Your friend is right. Maybe you should have thought twice about offending me!"

"He was not pummeling me." Zero glared at Steven. "He shoved me, and I bumped into a table, causing it to fall. That's not the same as being pummeled."

"Sorry, I didn't see the entire thing," Steven said meekly.

"Hey Bull E. Where's your friends?" Zero asked.

"What? I have friends?" Bull E. asked, confused. "Wait! No-"

Bull E. proceeded to have a mental breakdown. He knelt down and started thinking about what he had down wrong in life.

"Okay, let's walk away," Zero said. "He's fine."

"Uh... but he seems to be-" Steven argued.

He went over to the bully. He crouched down, "It's okay, you'll have friends someday. Not any time soon, but soon."

He stood up again.

"Oh, we actually have some stalls and stores on campus that sells food," Zero pointed out.

"Where?"

Author's Note: Zero says I am yellow and you are the river. And Steven askes what he means by that.
