Chapter 1 – Encounter on a Rainy Day

I, Aida Yuji, am a third-year high school student. In other words, I’m a student preparing for an entrance examination.

Even though I’m a student, I got an impressive red mark on this test just now.

Thanks to this, I even received a scolding from my homeroom teacher after school. To sum it up in one sentence: “Are you aware that you’re a student preparing for an entrance examination?”

By the mercy of the homeroom teacher, it was decided that I take a supplementary exam. Ah, I’m so glad…

“Hah~…”

No one heard my stupid sigh.

The club activities had already started and the go-home club members had probably gone home.

I was the only one walking down the corridor. And it was raining outside, just like my mind. How depressed am I?

By the time I got to the shoe locker, the rain had increased in intensity. It was like an overturned bucket.

But I had nothing to fear, because I always check the weather forecast. I put up the umbrella I brought with me.

“Hah~…”

I heard a huge sigh from the side.

I looked over and saw a girl with flaxen hair in twin-tails standing there. I guessed she was a junior.

She must have been caught off guard, thinking no one was around. That was a big sigh for a girl. She would definitely be embarrassed if she knew I heard that.

The junior girl seems to be staring outside. Looks like she forgot her umbrella. The rain won’t stop even if she glances at it, though.

It was just me and the junior girl at the entrance. I could hear other students doing club activities, but they didn’t seem to be approaching us.

The rain was hitting the ground hard. Looking at it, I nodded my head and made up my mind.

“Here, use this.”

“Eh?”

I held out my umbrella to the junior girl. Perhaps because I called out to her so suddenly, her shoulders jumped. I’m sorry that I look so shady.

The girl didn’t want to take it, so I pushed it halfway to her. The junior girl’s big eyes twinkled.

“U-Um… I can’t take this.”

She seems to be a person of modest mind.

“I…”

“Yes?”

I put on my best face and said…

“I feel like getting rained on right now.”

I didn’t even hear the junior girl stop me and I started to run.

It was raining outside, so of course I got wet. It rained harder than I expected and soon I was soaked all over.

There are times when a man wants to look good for nothing.

That seems to have been the case with me. If I had to give an excuse, it would be “my body moved on its own.” Sadly, it was not followed with a righteous heart.

“I shouldn’t have done that, I shouldn’t have done that, I shouldn’t have done  that…!”

It was guaranteed that I would come back to myself and feel embarrassed.

Maybe I was drunk on myself. If I pause and look at it objectively, I realize how embarrassing I had been. What the h**l was that smug look? I was definitely acting like a creep.

I don’t know how many times I would die if I had to repeat the scene where I give the umbrella to the junior girl. I’m really glad no one saw that. I would have been the laughing stock of the school.

I ran all the way home, tormented by intense regret. It seems that shame surpasses endurance.

On a rainy day, I had a corny encounter with a junior girl.

That was how I met Fujisaki Kotone.
