Who Said A Mosquito Can't Cultivate?

Chapter 36 - A Whole New World

Ding!

'You have enabled the Expert Mosquito mode.'

'The receptor section of the Blood Energy system has been unlocked.'

'The effectiveness of the eyes has been reduced by 500%'

Whoosh!

Wha- what the f.u.c.k is happening? Did my eyes go retarded or something? Couldn't they see like from a good distance away and see it as clearly as if it was close? Also, didn't I upgrade my eyes through the Body Refinement feature…well, Physique feature? Shouldn't they be showing me a great amount of visual information right now?

Well, I don't know what happened, but for some reason, my sight has gone down the drain. The whole majority of what I was seeing right now was pretty much a big blur. Save for the fact that a decent radius around me was still clearly visible, probably due to the fact that I upgraded my eyes, this was pretty much the case. What if I didn't upgrade my eyes, would I probably be looking at everything in rough detail?

That has got to suck, literally.

But seriously though, what the heck happened to my eyesight? I accepted the option from the system to enter Expert Mosquito mode since it would increase my gain in terms of blood by 3 times, while increasing my attack power by 50 percent. Hmm…I feel like the system is pulling some shady shit on me. Did the system possibly only tell me about the advantages of Expert Mosquito mode since it knew that I would probably deny it if I knew that there was such a big side effect such as this?

Well, to be honest, I would definitely deny it if that was the system's thoughts. Who would give up their eyesight for a multiplier in blood gain and attack power? I definitely would if it meant that I had greater perception of the world surrounding me. I just have to suck more and attack a few more times, but that would just be it. I wouldn't even have to lose the sight advantage.

Will cultivation possibly fix this problem? Who knows, maybe there's a technique where I can utilize qi to see clearly again. It could be temporary, or it could be permanent, either way is fine with me. Haah. I'll just have to endure it for now.

I guess this side effect would change a good portion of my plans. Since I can't rely on my eyesight to fly towards Red River Town and start cultivating there to Qi Actualization stage so I can use Lesser Feline Transformation, which in actuality was my original plan, I'll have to think up of another way to get there without hitting something along the way, or worse, getting lost in terms of direction.

To be honest, I have a good sense of direction, but that's because I rely on my eyesight as I turn some stuff in my mind into landmarks, giving me a good idea as to where I was and where I was pointing. Normally, anyone that had lost their sight all of a sudden would definitely be in the same dilemma as me. Anyways, I'll have to postpone my journey towards Red River Town.

So…what should I do now?

Hmm…I guess I'll just cultivate here for now. I'm currently on a high up branch, plus it's night, so there are fewer aerial predators. Not only that, I'm also a Rank 4 aura, so no normal beast would come close and possibly devour me. For now, I'm pretty much safe and sound.

But before I do that, I'll have to ask the system a few things I have in mind.

'Hey system, why didn't you tell me that the new mode would actually make my sight go shit?' I asked in my mind, waiting for an answer. Thankfully, the system answered my question, albeit in a somewhat casual manner.

'The reason for it is just like what the user thinks. The system thinks that the user would definitely deny the choice if the information about a side effect was added to it. Hence, the system thought of hiding the fact of the side effect only after the user had accepted the choice. Don't you think it's a great idea, user?'

If this system was a person, I would definitely hold a grudge until the day I regain my eyesight again. Then f.u.c.k.i.n.g beat the shit out of that guy. But since it was an intangible system in my mind, I could do nothing but be at its mercy. Then again, the system was probably thinking of the best choice for me to become stronger. Yeah, I'll think of it that way.

'So…why did you need me to change to the Expert Mosquito mode? Wouldn't the previous mode I was using be sufficient as well? Also, can I possibly change back to the previous mode?' I continued to ask questions, with the system replying back.

'The Expert Mosquito mode is the only mode that would let you be recognized by the laws of this world, since it would make you seem like a normal mosquito, but with a greater constitution. As for the reason why the laws of the world didn't hound you while you were raising your constitution and your bloodline before Expert Mosquito mode, that was due to this system masking your presence from the laws.'

'To show you that this system is not lying, try to perceive the worldly qi around you. With the Qi Perception stat, this system is sure you've tried to sense qi before. Now that you've activated Expert Mosquito mode, doesn't the presence of qi feel stronger?' the system replied.

With the words of the system lingering in my mind, I decided to check it out, activating my Qi Perception stat at full power.

Whoosh!

Holy shit…how did I become so close with the qi around me? Back then, when I tried to sense qi through Qi Perception, even though I was mostly using it to sense auras, the amount of qi I could sense in the surroundings was incredibly faint, with the only exception being the couple that I looked at at the village a few days ago, with their qi circulating throughout their bodies.

But now that I've activated Expert Mosquito mode, it's like the world was covered in a fog of qi! To think that there was a lot of qi around me! Wait…now that I think about it, wasn't I able to absorb qi before? Hmm…I guess it's the system allowing a small amount of qi to enter my body while continuing to mask my presence.

Speaking of which, when will my Qi Perception stat raise? Now that I can start cultivating, the upper limit of my stat was now gone, but how can I increase it in the first place? I'll have to try and find that out sooner or later. Or I could ask the system, either way is fine.

Of course, the system wasn't finished talking, continuing to answer my other questions.

'As for the previous mode you were working with, there is a possibility to revert back to that mode, but that would cost 10 million points for you to do so. Also, the name of the mode is Namby-Pamby Mode. Are you sure you want to go back to Namby-Pamby Mode after being called an Expert Mosquito?'

…Who the heck made this system and why the f.u.c.k did they call the first mode Namby-Pamby Mode? I feel incredibly embarassed of getting used to it now. Damn it, I'm a guy that likes cool names, and I definitely don't want to be call namby-pamby. Then again, 10 million blood points is still a large number, so I have no choice but to get used to this mode.

'Anyways, there is also the second option, but it costs 50 million blood points. It allows you to see clearly once again, keep the receptor section, and even increase the Impure Blood Energy you obtain from s.u.c.k.i.n.g and killing by another 300%, increasing the gain to 500 percent! As for your attack power, it's increased to 200 percent! This mode is called the Legendary Mosquito Mode, and it is the recommended path for you to take rather than reverting back to Namby-Pamby Mode.'

Well, the system got me from the name alone. Legendary Mosquito…who doesn't want to have the word Legendary affixed to their species? Anyways, it costs about half the amount needed for the system to make an enemy pinpointing feature, so I guess it'll be a while until I get it.

Anyways, the blood point requirement aside, I also have to experiment with the two new skills I've received eventually. Although I haven't checked the descriptions of Ranged Absorption and Vitality Siphoning yet, I have a strong feeling that they would make the road to my cultivation more interesting and fun.

For now, I'll just pass the time by cultivating the qi path. My goal for now? If I could reach Qi Proliferation Stage 2 or Stage 3 within a day, that would be great. But not reaching it is fine as well. I'm just four days into this new mosquito life, plus I could extend my lifespan to an amount where a normal mosquito would be dead by then, so not much rush.

And with that, I willed the information regarding the Dual Soul Genesis Manual in my mind and started to cultivate.

Blank. Tune. Succ. Store.

Ding!

'You have obtained 10 Qi.'

Hmm…to obtain 10 Qi from the surroundings, it takes me around 15 minutes or so to do that. Also, now that I think about it, why am I getting 10 Qi from one circulation, even though I have a strong feeling that it was only supposed to be 1 Qi per circulation. With this in mind, I had a feeling that the cultivation section was more or less similar to the qi gathering feature, except for the fact that there was no proficiency stat anymore.

What did I mean by that? Didn't Jeff say that the Dual Soul Genesis Manual and Body Induration Sutra were both at Earth level? I hope you understand what I'm getting by now, since there's a great chance that a Mortal level cultivation technique would definitely obtain 1 Qi from a circulation…unless if it was upgraded to a higher grade…

Now that I think about it, can I upgrade my cultivation techniques? I didn't really see the option when I checked the screen, but I definitely hope I can upgrade them.

Anyways, I continued to cultivate my qi, acc.u.mulating an additional 230 Qi throughout the night, only stopping my cultivation session until the sun was shining its rays directly at the ground below the branch. In other words, when it was already noon.

Well, other than that, I continued to read through the Dual Soul Genesis Manual and read up on how I was going to obtain a second soul through the technique. The cultivation technique explained that while I was cultivating, a small part of the qi I absorbed would make its way towards my soul, gradually splitting it into two while repairing the split along the seams to make sure that the soul doesn't break while it's being split.

It also explained that thanks to this process, the formation of a second soul was only feasible at around the third realm of cultivation. Not only that, it also said that there was a superior version of the technique at Spirit level, allowing the cultivator to create a second soul at Base Creation realm. As for the name of the technique, it didn't say.

Huuu…well, more or less, it was pretty much a fruitful night for me. I've awakened my bloodline a third time, achieved Qi Proliferation Stage 1, and acc.u.mulated some qi to head towards the second stage of Qi Proliferation.

So…should I start heading towards Red River Town already? Hmm…I seriously need to have assurance of where I am first. Just by relying on the radius where I can see clearly is not great assurance, since I'm flying really fast. It would definitely be too late if there was actually a large tree in front of me and I happened to bump into it.

And with that, I decided to tinker with the receptor section of the system.
