Wild Young Miss: Mister, Let's Kiss!

Chapter 420 - Where Is She?

Zoey watched each number light up in silence. The closer she got, the louder the beat of her heart throbbed. "Ugh… why am I so anxious?" She muttered, patting her chest to calm her heart.

For some reason, Zoey had this bad feeling circling around her heart. She didn't know, but it was her instinct that something terrible had happened as Matthew's image flashed across her eyes. His reaction earlier, he seemed to be in pain that made him act defensive.

"Everything is fine, Z." She comforted under her breath. "He is probably doing some paperwork as soon as you reach his office." She added, hoping that was the case. However, why was she having these weird thoughts that were causing her to feel utterly anxious?

"No no no…" Zoey shook her head sideways, shrugging the negative thoughts inside her head. Suddenly, the day she had received the terrible news of her husband flashed across her mind, causing her to stop abruptly.

"F*ck!" Zoey cursed, grinding her teeth as she jumped lightly. "Why are you so slow?" She grumbled, pacing back and forth as she bit her thumb nail in distress.

Although Zoey didn't think that Matthew died when they left, she could not help but worry. She had already lost him once and no words could describe the pain of that occurrence to her. Zoey couldn't bear experiencing it the second time.

She was fighting, battling her demons every second of everyday to keep herself sane. She was slowly rewriting her and Matthew's fate for their survival. Thus, this anxiety of losing him the second time ticked her off every millisecond she spent her time inside this elevator.

"Come on…" One floor before reaching Matthew's office, Zoey didn't avert her eyes elsewhere as she anticipated for that sole floor number to lit up.

Soon enough, the top floor's number lit up before the door slowly opened. Out of utter anxiousness, Zoey pushed the door open so it would open up faster. "I forgot my…" Before she could say her excuse, Zoey stopped seeing no one around the office.

Her eyes immediately searched for him before it traveled down. "Matty!" She gasped, seeing him on the floor.

In an instant. Zoey sprinted towards his direction and in no time, she squatted down. "Hey! What happened?" As her knees crashed on the floor, Zoey skimmed his figure in panic, afraid to touch him.

"Oh, god! oh, god!" Her hands trembled, trying to clear her mind despite how shaken it was. She then checked his pulse on the neck, using her two fingers, Zoey pressed it against the spot of his vein to feel if it was still beating.

"Gosh…" The corner of her eyes welled up upon sensing that he still had his pulse, albeit faint, Zoey heaved a sigh of relief. "I shouldn't have left you alone." She muttered, tears staining her cheeks as she raised her head.

The moment she spotted the transceiver to call for help, Zoey jolted up and immediately dashed to call for help. However, before Zoey could, the door was busted open. "Young Master!" One man in a suit called out loudly.

The person outside and Zoey's eyes instantly met before he gazed down. Upon laying his eyes on Matthew's figure, his eyes widened and immediately pulled a gun. "Who are you?" His voice thundered, cautiously walking inside.

As he did so, four men behind him followed. They all pulled out their guns upon witnessing the scene inside. All of them pointing in her direction, Zoey's shoulder trembled not in fear of those guns but her fear for Matthew's state.

"He's still breathing. Please, call an ambulance!" Out of desperation, Zoey didn't even think of clearing her name. Instead, she sobbed her cries for help as one of them cautiously approached Matthew's figure.

"I said call an ambulance! You can kill me later, but prioritize him first!" As she watched how slow and cautious the men were, Zoey shouted aggressively.

The man who came to check Matthew's pulse looked up, studying her desperate front as a river of tears flowed from her eyes. "Call the building's paramedics now!" He ordered, his eyes still on Zoey who was acting much different from a culprit.

"Ma--"

"Don't move!" Zoey heedlessly attempted to return to him to check if he hit his head or got injured. However, before she could even more that much, all guns were cocked, ready to shoot her as if she was a murderer.

Therefore, Zoey instinctively raised her hand, not moving a muscle as she gazed down at him. "Shit…!" She cursed through her gritted teeth; she couldn't stop the tears from falling as she blamed herself.

If only she didn't leave him when he said to leave him; if only Zoey fought to stay, maybe, they could do something faster. However, she made a mistake. Like always, she often thought he could tend to himself despite knowing how he worked day and night. Obviously, Matthew would overworked himself as he had nothing to do!

'Please, God, if you're real, don't let anything bad happen to him. Please… I'm begging you.' Inside her heart and mind, Zoey prayed for the first time.

"Son!" Matthew heard Vivian's familiar voice albeit faint. He weakly opened and closed his eyes, seeing the figure become clearer. "Oh gosh!" While he tried to get a hold of his sight, Matthew heard his mother's relieved voice from the side.

Soon enough, there were people talking as a group of medical professionals came to check on his condition. "Young Master Xi will be fine with enough rest…" Matthew heard snippets of a male doctors advised while Vivian listened intently.

"Thank you, Doctor Liang." Vivian expressed, heaving another sigh of relief as she sent the medical staff off.

"Matty, how are you feeling?" She asked, smiling gently as soon as she returned to her son's bedside.

"Ugh…" He groaned, his head was still a little light. Still, Matthew tried to assist himself to sit.

"No, you need to rest!" Seeing him get up, Vivian shook her head and tried to stop him but to no avail. Matthew just shook his head lightly as she sat with his back against the bed's headboard.

"What happened?" He asked, looking up as he cleared his throat.

"What do you mean what happened? You fainted due to fatigue!" Upset that her son wouldn't listen to her, Vivian exclaimed. "I told you, you need to take some time off from the company! You can't just work day and night!" She nagged, frustrated that her son had worked himself too much that he fainted.

"Where's Paul?" He asked, ignoring his mother's worried naggings.

"Matt." This time, Vivian's tone became stern as she looked at him straight in the eye.

"Mom, I'm fine." Yet, despite the change of behaviour of his mother, Matthew reassured. "I will rest but I need to ask him something." He explained, staring back at her.

"You mean that lady?" Vivian arched her right brow, causing him to narrow his eyes.

His silence was enough of an answer for her. "She's fine, probably on her way home now." Vivian shrugged as she suddenly averted her gaze from him.

"Just now?" He questioned, his eyes still narrowed before he turned his head towards the transparent window. "It's night time and she's just returning now?" He asked, slowly returning his eyes to her mother.

"Mom, where is she?" Without further ado, Matthew asked, his tone was piercingly cold while Vivian cleared her throat.

"With the Bai's." After a minute of silence, Vivian finally answered.. However, as soon as she did, the entire room's temperature dropped to negative zero.
