Wild Young Miss: Mister, Let's Kiss!

Chapter 649 - Why Did I Even Deserve An Angel You?

The discussion went on for about an hour. Zoey remained silent throughout their conversation, listening to Cecil's plans and resources that he needed to make a comeback.

Matthew had granted all his requests on the condition that he would lay low in the business. Cecil instantly agreed, with his heart filled with hatred and vengeance towards the Silva crime family.

When Cecil left, Matthew arched his brow noticing Zoey's silence.

"Are you mad about my connection with Cecil?" asked Matthew, leaning back as his gaze landed on her.

Zoey cast him a brief glance, shaking her head as she smacked her lips.

"Somehow, I already had my suspicions."

She shrugged. However, this only heightened Matthew's curiosity.

"Then, what's bothering you?" He asked, furrowing his brows as he studied Zoey's movements and expression.

Zoey let out a deep exhale through her mouth. Leaning back as she pondered whether to tell him.

"Please." Matthew urged under his breath which made her roll her eyes.

"It's…" Zoey paused as she took another sigh. "I don't know. I trust you, Darling. I really do. But somehow, I think you're focusing on someone else more than the person who was out there orchestrating our murders."

Exasperated, Zoey spoke her concerns aloud. Zoey trusted Matthew with all her heart and soul. And she had tried avoiding having these thoughts.

However, the more she tried to avoid these thoughts, the more it bothered her. Zoey was just afraid that focusing on Niko and the entire Silva Family would make an opening for Inigo to kill them all at once.

That was like giving Inigo a chance to kill two birds with one stone. The thought of it terrified her.

Meanwhile, Matthew remained silent momentarily. He knew these types of questions would come up soon. However, until now, he didn't have an idea how to explain things to her with complete honesty.

Even if he wanted to tell her that Inigo was not a foe; even if he told her the people involved in his death were actually the people she least expected, and even if he deeply desired to come clean, he would die before he could do it.

Matthew couldn't speak about knowing the past to her. He could hint others -- he'd been hinting others hoping Zoey would put the pieces together. But until now, no one had gotten his hints and Zoey was still clueless.

How was he supposed to explain her queries now without lying? Zoey was not stupid not to see through his lies. It'll only give her reasons to doubt him.

"I… uh," Matthew trailed off. He couldn't really think of anything right now.

Zoey sighed, shaking her head lightly. She leaned forward, reaching out to him until her hand held his hand.

"Babe, I trust you alright? And I know I'm not in the position to question you. I'm just worried." Zoey said, nodding reassuringly. "I know you have your reasons and I will trust and wait until you explain things to me yourself."

Matthew bit his tongue. Gosh… he wanted to tell her so badly.

"I'm… sorry." These  were only the words he could say. Matthew let out a weary sigh as he clipped his fingers on her fingers.

Fortunately, Zoey was trusting him until now. If not, everything would be a mess.

"And thank you." He added.

Zoey offered a subtle smile. She didn't need to ask more after seeing his expression change. His expression already explained that he had a strong reason and he couldn't tell her reason as well.

She would trust him the same. Zoey loved Matthew so much she would try to understand things no matter how confusing they were.

"You don't have to say sorry or thank me, you know that, right?" Zoey huffed faintly. "You're doing this for me. It's not your problem to begin with."

"It is mine if your problem involves me."

"Still…"

"Z," Before she could argue, Matthew squeezed her hand lightly. "I want to tell you things so badly but I can't. But please remember, I love you and I would never, never harm or betray you."

Matthew stated, looking her straight in the eyes, nodding reassuringly. The world had its own way of revealing secrets. Hence, Matthew knew someday, she would know about Inigo and Matthew's relationship.

Therefore, he was asking her beforehand to trust him. It may be impossible, but hopefully, these words would stop her from jumping on to conclusions immediately.

"Why? Was there a reason I would think like that in the future?" Zoey inquired, taking notice of the strange words he was using.

"Well," Matthew let out a deep sigh. "Maybe, worse."

Their relationship was at risk just like their lives. The more they delve deeper into this problem, the more it'll get suffocatingly dangerous. Deep down, he knew this road would be painfully rocky for everyone.

Matthew just didn't want Zoey slipping away from him. It broke his heart just at the thought of it.

Zoey remained silent for a second. "Even worse, huh?" She murmured.

She glanced at him as he looked at their hands, his thumb caressing her fingers. "Are you stupid, darling? My sugar pie, my sunshine?"

"Hmm?" Slowly, he raised his head, puzzled. Matthew blinked his eyes ever so slowly, furrowing his brows witnessing a playful smile resurface on her lips.

"Even if I misunderstand something, I would still listen to your explanation. No matter how obvious it is, I will still ask you. Even if you lie as an answer, I will believe it." Zoey chuckled, shaking her head lightly.

"I think you're the foolish one, Z."

"Well," Zoey briefly raised her brows, withdrawing her hand from him. She then slapped her legs as she stood up.

"I am a fool, indeed." said Zoey, trudging towards him.

When she reached him, Zoey unhesitatingly sat down on his lap, her arms over his shoulders. "Foolishly in love with you."

Upon dropping that remark, Zoey leaned forward and left a brief kiss on his lips.

"Don't look so gloomy, Mister." As she drew back, Zoey humored.

Matthew stared at her for a second, brushing the strands of her hair to the side. His eyes flickered with unbending love and affection.

"What did I even do to deserve an angel like you?"
