Proficient.

The two of them kissed passionately, completely lost in the moment, embracing each other tightly as if they wanted to merge into one another.

In the past, Yang Hongjin would only peck affectionately like a puppy trying to please its owner. If he could kiss Cheng Yun all day, he would be happy. Now, it was as if he had suddenly become proficient in expressing affection, holding Cheng Yun and kissing him. Whenever Cheng Yun took a breath, Yang Hongjin would try to gauge his intentions.

Cheng Yun was lost in his thoughts and didn’t notice Yang Hongjin’s actions. He just went along with it, following his lead stupidly.

Yang Hongjin seemed encouraged and his eyes sparkled. He kept his eyes fixed on Cheng Yun and kissed him passionately.

After a long time, a knocking sound came from outside the door. Liu Wen stood there awkwardly and said, “I don’t mean to disturb you, but you’ve been kissing for quite a while. How about we sit down and have something to eat? Hongjin has just returned and might be hungry.”

Cheng Yun, as if awakening from a dream, gently pushed Yang Hongjin away with both hands, and they separated with a soft sound, which seemed quite obvious in the quiet room.

He buried his head in Yang Hongjin’s embrace, and his ears turned red as if about to bleed. His heart was pounding so loudly it almost burst his eardrums. When he looked up at Yang Hongjin, his composed demeanor had disappeared, and his eyes were filled with a hint of complaint. Liu Wen couldn’t help but shudder at the sight.

Liu Wen quickly raised his hands in surrender and said, “It’s not my fault; your husband didn’t close the door. I didn’t mean to peek.”

He couldn’t help teasing them again, saying, “But I really didn’t expect this… tsk tsk tsk.”

Cheng Yun, not angry, adjusted his breathing and waved his hand, “Alright, we’ll be down in a moment.”

Once Liu Wen received the promise, he quickly closed the door and then instructed the kitchen staff to start preparing the food.

When Liu Wen left, Cheng Yun felt too embarrassed to look at Yang Hongjin. At this moment, he was somewhat relieved that Yang Hongjin was still quite naive when it came to love matters.

Blushing, Cheng Yun gently pushed Yang Hongjin to sit on the bed, trying to act as if nothing had happened. He started unbuttoning Yang Hongjin’s clothes to check if he was injured.

“I heard someone got knocked down by the flood. Was that you?” Cheng Yun’s breath gradually calmed down. Frowning, he tossed aside Yang Hongjin’s dirty clothes one by one. “Did you have a hard time? Are you feeling any discomfort?”

Yang Hongjin shook his head and obediently let Cheng Yun examine him.

“I listened to my wife’s words and stayed close to my brother. The one who got knocked down was not me but another fool in our team,” Yang Hongjin said while chuckling, as Cheng Yun playfully tickled him but he didn’t hide away. “Wife, I’m very obedient; I always listen to you.”

Hearing him say that, Cheng Yun’s tense emotions finally eased a bit.

But actions speak louder than words, and Cheng Yun still removed Yang Hongjin’s clothes and checked him thoroughly to ensure he was not injured before stopping.

Cheng Yun then asked Yang Hongjin about some matters, mostly regarding the safety of the road construction team. Yang Hongjin answered each question.

Cheng Yun helped Yang Hongjin put on clean clothes. He didn’t feel anything during the kiss, and it was only after he realized the impact of it. The sensation lingered on his tongue, and whenever he thought about it, his heart would start racing.

Feeling somewhat agitated, Cheng Yun was about to do something when Liu Wen interrupted them again.

They were unable to continue, but they understood that Liu Wen meant well, and they couldn’t dismiss his kindness. After a brief rest, they went downstairs together.

Downstairs, they found Yang Hongcai surrounded by a group of people, looking anxious. Yang Hongcai, a simple laborer, had never been to such a high-end place as Yueqiong Tower in Nanming City before. He was worried about making a mess and upsetting others since eating here cost nearly one or two taels. However, since Yang Hongjin said his wife was here, he had no choice but to follow.

As soon as he entered, his younger brother was taken away, and when he tried to follow, he was surrounded and forced to sit down. They said they wanted to hear about the road construction team’s situation, and in the blink of an eye, Yang Hongjin disappeared.

Later, Liu Wen arrived, and Yang Hongcai recognized him as Dr. Liu’s son. He had heard about Cheng Yun and his cooperation with Liu Wen before. After Liu Wen briefly explained the situation to him, Yang Hongcai felt more at ease and obediently waited there. He only relaxed when he saw his brother and sister-in-law.

Cheng Yun had been more concerned about whether Yang Hongjin was injured earlier and hadn’t fully understood the whole situation. Now that he saw Yang Hongcai, he remembered to ask about the road construction team.

Yang Hongcai, feeling more at ease with his relatives present, after stuttering with the first few words summarized the events. Everyone then understood how the flood had happened.

“On the fifth and sixth day, the officials informed us that there might be heavy rain coming and asked us to speed up the road construction to finish earlier and return home before the heavy rain arrives.”

“The heavy rains during this season are not to be underestimated. We rushed and managed to complete the road just in time, but as we were preparing to head back, the heavy rain came.”

Everyone shuddered at the thought of such a sudden and fierce flood.

“The flood came with great force. The officials told us to prepare for it, but by the time we were ready, it was already too late.” Yang Hongcai recalled, “The water rushed in, and the officials asked us to deal with the situation urgently.”

The rest of the story unfolded much like the person Liu Wen had hired to explain it. The whole road construction team was busy trying to handle the sudden flood, and it was only after they managed to control the situation that they quickly returned.

“How did I hear that a fool had an accident?” Liu Wen asked, voicing everyone’s doubts. “We were so scared when we heard the news. Cheng-Ge’er even fainted.”

Yang Hongjin, who had been sitting with Cheng Yun holding hands, tightened his grip and turned to look at Cheng Yun’s face.

Now that Yang Hongjin had returned, Cheng Yun was not as anxious as before. However, upon hearing Liu Wen’s words, he suddenly felt embarrassed.

Knowing that Yang Hongjin was watching him, Cheng Yun didn’t look back at him and pretended not to notice, continuing to listen to Yang Hongcai.

“Yes, there was one person in our team who was a bit slow to react,” Yang Hongcai gently avoided using the word ‘fool’ and said, “He came with some relatives, and when the accident happened, he wanted to find his family. In the process, he accidentally bumped into someone else, and that person’s hand loosened, causing the sandbags holding back the floodwater to create an opening, allowing the water to rush in.”

“Was it a big problem?”

Yang Hongcai shook his head, “When the floodwater surged, many people were knocked down, but everyone reacted quickly and managed to seal the opening. However, that kid got trampled on and had his hands and feet injured. When he came back, he was carried by others, but I heard it’s not a major issue, and he should be fine after resting for ten days or so.”

Everyone sighed with relief. The person who had passed on the news was also present and felt embarrassed when others glared at him.

Everyone knew what happened next. After successfully resisting the flood, the road construction team didn’t stay for even half a moment longer and quickly packed up and returned.

The road construction took a total of nine days, one day earlier than expected. Upon their return to the city, the authorities promptly rewarded everyone with money as a token of appreciation for their hard work during those days.

For dinner, they all went to Yueqiong Tower. With the return of the road construction team, Nanming City regained its lively atmosphere. Liu Wen had specially prepared a private room on the second floor to host the Yang brothers.

Yang Hongcai took a bath and put on the clothes that Cheng Yun had prepared for Yang Hongjin in advance. As he touched the smooth fabric, he found it a bit hard to accept.

Before this, Yang Hongjin had mentioned that Cheng-Ge’er and Liu Wen had collaborated to open a new Yueqiong Tower. At first, Yang Hongcai thought his younger brother was just talking nonsense. But with the consecutive events that happened today, he had to reevaluate the situation.

He had known for a long time that Cheng-Ge’er was good at making money. When he helped them with farming before, he received several hundred yuan from Cheng-Ge’er each time. Every time he went to collect the money, Yang Hongcai felt embarrassed because he hadn’t done much but was earning so much. However, Cheng-Ge’er always gave the money generously. Since then, he knew that his sister-in-law was particularly skilled at making money.

But he couldn’t exactly grasp how capable he was. Until today, when he saw such a large Yueqiong Tower in Nanming City, with people holding number cards outside even on rainy days, eager to dine there, and knowing that it was Cheng-Ge’er and Liu Wen who opened the restaurant together, Yang Hongcai couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride from the bottom of his heart.

When Yang Hongcai entered, the others had already started enjoying the hotpot.

Upon seeing him, Liu Wen warmly welcomed him, “Come, come, sit over here, Second Brother, right?. You probably haven’t tried the new hotpot we just launched. Let me tell you, it’s fantastic!”

Liu Wen kept introducing the various aspects of the hotpot, but Yang Hongcai was still not used to facing these big bosses and remained tense and reserved.

Cheng Yun didn’t mind their conversation; he knew Yang Hongjin probably hadn’t eaten anything delicious during his time away. Although he didn’t seem to have lost weight, Cheng Yun imagined him being thinner, making his heart ache. He continuously picked up pieces of meat and vegetables to feed him and nourish him.

Yang Hongjin felt the same way. He had no idea what had happened to his wife during these days, but he knew Cheng Yun looked much thinner than before. So, he was more diligent in picking up dishes and feeding Cheng Yun than in the past.

After the meal, the young couple continuously fed each other by placing the food they had prepared into each other’s bowls. The whole bowl was filled with the food they had served for each other as if they were afraid the other might not have had enough, so they continued to feed each other directly into their mouths.

Liu Wen took a moment to glance at them and felt his eyes burn with emotion. However, when he saw Cheng Yun’s recovery from the previous gloomy period, he couldn’t help but feel happy for him.

The meal ended joyously, and after dinner, Cheng Yun felt an itch to return to their room and continue what they had left unfinished. However…

“Hongjin, my brother seems a bit overwhelmed by this big and luxurious room. Why don’t you chat with me, and Cheng-Ge’er, you come too? We’ll tell you about what happened during these days.”

Cheng Yun: “…”

How overwhelmed can a big man be?
