“When should we throw him out?”

Cheng Yun hadn’t expected Yang Hongjin’s response to be like this, and he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

However, he hadn’t forgotten what they had argued about earlier, so he tested the waters and asked, “Hongjin, you don’t like babies? Then what if… what if it’s our child?”

“Would my wife give birth to a baby?” Yang Hongjin asked, his eyes showing genuine curiosity.

Inwardly, Cheng Yun struggled for a moment, then ambiguously replied, “It’s hard to say. Maybe he will, maybe he won’t.” He threw the question back, “And what about you? If it’s our baby, would you want it?”

This time, Yang Hongjin began to struggle.

Cheng Yun patiently waited, somewhat surprised by his current reaction. Earlier, Yang Hongjin had asked him the same question, and he had believed that Yang Hongjin was interested in having a baby.

After a while, Yang Hongjin playfully buried his head in Cheng Yun’s shoulder, took a deep breath, and said, “But I only want my wife.”

Then, fearing that Cheng Yun might be unhappy, he reluctantly added, as if making a territorial concession, “If my wife wants it, it’s not impossible…”

Cheng Yun was puzzled, “Then before…?” He blinked, not sure how to phrase his question, absentmindedly gesturing a couple of times before asking, “Then before, weren’t you always talking about that, um, mark behind my ear?”

As soon as Yang Hongjin heard this, he grinned and said, “The pink mark!”

“Yes!” Cheng Yun said, “That’s the one!”

Yang Hongjin explained, “Big brother said that the mark can make babies, but Hongjin doesn’t want babies. Hongjin just wants my wife to only like me.”

Cheng Yun, holding back his embarrassment, asked, “Then why did you lick it?”

As a result, Yang Hongjin replied confidently, “Lick it away!”

Cheng Yun: “…”

Cheng Yun: “…………”

How can you be so stupid? Ah???

He really wanted to open up Yang Hongjin’s head and see where all the previous Word Spirits had been used. He had been behaving quite normally recently, making Cheng Yun think he was about to recover, but how did his brain suddenly twitch, even coming up with ideas like this?!

Cheng Yun suddenly felt that his previous frustration and anger had been utterly worthless, even a bit stupid. He had been upset about this matter all night. What was it all for?

He was so angry that he didn’t want to pay any attention to this idiot at all. His head twitched with anger. Eventually, he turned away, not looking at Yang Hongjin’s face.

Yang Hongjin didn’t know how he had managed to upset his wife again. He immediately panicked and kept calling “wife” behind him.

Cheng Yun, not in a good mood, said, “Your wife wants to sleep, don’t disturb.”

So Yang Hongjin dared not disturb anymore. He had long forgotten why he had been sulking earlier. He cautiously moved closer to his wife, trying to hug him and realized that his wife wasn’t pushing him away, and hugged him, falling asleep with a contented smile.

A dreamless night passed, and the next morning, Cheng Yun was awakened by a loud noise outside.

He sat up abruptly, pressing his wildly beating heart. “What’s going on? Is there a thief?”

Yang Hongjin also woke up and, rubbing his eyes, not fully awake yet, lazily said, “Good morning, wife.”

Cheng Yun rolled his eyes at him, quickly put on some clothes, and headed outside.

Halfway through, Cheng Yun suddenly remembered that there was a stranger in the house. He walked towards the storeroom and indeed found the person who had been sleeping there was gone.

As soon as Cheng Yun turned around, he saw the handsome young Ge’er holding a bowl of porridge carefully walking out of the kitchen.

The young Ge’er probably hadn’t expected anyone else to be there. He blushed upon realizing that he had been caught making noise.

The two of them stood there, looking at each other. In the end, it was Yang Hongjin who came out and stood in front of Cheng Yun, looking displeased, which ended the staring contest.

Cheng Yun, annoyed, pushed Yang Hongjin aside. This young Ge’er had seemed attractive even when he was asleep yesterday. Now that he was awake, with his round eyes and innocent expression, he looked even better than before, unexpectedly sparking a liking in Cheng Yun’s heart.

“Hello, I’m Cheng Yun, and this is my husband Yang Hongjin,” Cheng Yun said with an involuntarily gentle tone, as if trying not to startle him.

He quickly explained, “You fainted at our doorstep yesterday, and my husband brought you in. The porridge in the pot was made last night. We didn’t wake you up, fearing it might disturb your rest. Doctor Liu from our village has examined you and said your body is weak. He prescribed some tonic herbs. After you finish eating, we’ll heat up the medicine for you.”

The young Ge’er remained silent for a while, then nodded and said, “You, hello.”

Cheng Yun smiled, trying to ease the young Ge’er’s uneasiness. He let him be and took Yang Hongjin to freshen up.

After enduring it for a while, when the two were finally alone, Yang Hongjin couldn’t hold back anymore and asked, “Wife, when should we throw him out?”

Cheng Yun chuckled and poked his head, saying, “Yesterday, I was joking. We’re not throwing him out. Nobody is. It’s cold outside, so we’ll take care of him after bringing him here. Unless he wants to leave on his own, we’ll take care of him.”

Yang Hongjin heard this and didn’t feel happy. He frowned and thought for a while before saying, “Well, wife, just don’t be too nice to him. You can only be nice to me.”

“Alright, alright,” Cheng Yun felt like he was hearing the same thing over and over again. He held Yang Hongjin’s face with his hands and said, “I’ll only be nice to you, I only like you.”

Yang Hongjin chuckled, and for the most part stopped fussing about the young Ge’er.

When the two returned to the main room, the young Ge’er had finished the porridge and was sitting obediently, looking around with wide eyes.

Upon seeing them return, he stood up immediately and scratched his head, looking a bit at a loss.

“Don’t be so nervous,” Cheng Yun said. “Have a seat first. I’ll go warm up some medicine for you. Are you full? I’m making breakfast, so I can prepare some extra for you. You’re quite thin; you need to eat more.”

Having said that, Cheng Yun walked towards the kitchen, and the young Ge’er followed him, looking nervous and hesitating to speak.

As Cheng Yun reached the kitchen door, his footsteps suddenly halted.

The young Ge’er’s voice came from behind, “I… I’m sorry, I didn’t know how to…”

The kitchen was a mess, with ashes scattered all over the floor. The culprit had even tried to cover up by placing hay on top of it. The porridge in the pot had spilled a bit, but the medicine had been properly set aside. The once tidy counter-top was now in a state of complete chaos.

Cheng Yun remained silent for a moment, then turned to look at the young Ge’er. He was staring at his own feet, seemingly at a loss for words.

This person was picked up by his husband. If he was going to be angry, he could only be angry with that idiot.

Reciting these words silently to himself, Cheng Yun maintained a polite demeanor and asked the young Ge’er to take a seat while he and Yang Hongjin cleaned up the kitchen together. By the time the kitchen was back to its original state and the porridge and medicine were heated up, nearly half an hour had passed.

Standing in the kitchen, Cheng Yun felt both hungry and tired. He leaned against Yang Hongjin and asked him to massage his arm.

Yang Hongjin happily embraced him and proceeded to knead and pinch here and there, enjoying the task.

He rested his chin on top of Cheng Yun’s head, and Cheng Yun could feel his touch with just a slight lift of his head.

Cheng Yun’s stomach rumbled audibly he was sweating all over so early in the morning. This person was brought home by the idiot, but he was still jealous of him not long ago, and wanted him to coax him. Thinking about this, Cheng Yun became annoyed again. Without warning, he raised his head and bit down on Yang Hongjin’s chin.

Yang Hongjin: “?”

After finishing the bite, Cheng Yun reached up to rub him and tugged his earlobe. He didn’t know if he was speaking to Yang Hongjin or himself, but he whispered softly in Yang Hongjin’s ear, “The young Ge’er is in poor health and is pregnant. Judging by his appearance and clothes, he’s likely from a wealthy family. It’s understandable that he can’t do any work, so let’s not hold it against him.”

Yang Hongjin always listened to his wife. He nodded without saying anything.

When they returned to the main room, the young Ge’er was still sitting in the same spot, motionless, not even daring to look around. He sat quietly like a statue.

Cheng Yun took a deep breath and brought over the porridge and medicine. As he served it, he said, “This is just some simple food. Eat a bit to fill your stomach. Later, I’ll ask my husband to invite the village doctor to come over and check on you.”

The young Ge’er quickly shook his head and waved his hands, “Your porridge is delicious. Thank you.”

Cheng Yun smiled at him, first scooping a bowl for Yang Hongjin and then for the young Ge’er. After serving himself, Cheng Yun sat down to eat while saying, “My name is Cheng Yun, and everyone calls me Cheng-Ge’er. My husband’s surname is Yang, and everyone calls him Yang Ge. What should we call you?”

The young Ge’er took a small sip of porridge, paused after hearing the words, and hesitated for a moment before saying, “I… I’m Chen Yan. You can call me Chen-Ge’er…”

Cheng Yun was silent for a moment, pretending not to notice the hesitation in his speech. He smiled and said, “Alright, then I’ll call you Chen-Ge’er.”

Seeing Chen Yan visibly relax, Cheng Yun shook his head with a smile and continued, “Chen-Ge’er, can I ask you a question?”

“W-what?” Chen Yan looked like a startled rabbit. He trembled every time Cheng Yun spoke.

“You don’t need to be so nervous,” Cheng Yun reassured with a smile. “Just think of me as your older brother and relax.”

Chen Yan nodded, though his nervousness was still apparent.

He glanced at Cheng Yun and then at Yang Hongjin. Cheng Yun had a gentle smile on his face, while Yang Hongjin, though silent, was staring at him with a vigilant look.

Chen Yan shrank his neck, avoiding eye contact with Yang Hongjin. He quietly waited for Cheng Yun to continue speaking.

Cheng Yun carefully chose his words and asked, “Do you know that you’re quite weak?”

Seeing Chen Yan nod, Cheng Yun continued, “And do you… know that you’ve been pregnant for over two months?”

Chen Yan’s entire body stiffened, and his complexion paled visibly.

Cheng Yun had been observing his reactions and saw that his eyes were getting red, as if he was on the brink of tears.

Panicking a bit seeing this, Cheng Yun hurriedly said, “Hey, don’t cry, don’t cry. If you trust me, you can tell me anything.”

Chen Yan sniffled, holding back his tears.

He glanced at Yang Hongjin and then at Cheng Yun again. He bit his lip and remained silent for a moment before tentatively asking, “Would you… be willing to let me stay here?”

Cheng Yun widened his eyes in astonishment.

Chen Yan knew his request might be unreasonable. He didn’t have anything to offer as collateral, and he hesitated, saying, “I… I can help with chores.”

As if recalling the mess he had made earlier, he grew anxious again. “I can learn, I’m capable of learning. You see…”

As he spoke, his eyes welled up with tears. He realized that he was used to being well-fed and well-cared for back at home, and only now did he realize that he was actually quite useless.

Watching Chen Yan experience excitement, panic, confusion, disappointment, and finally despair within a span of a few minutes, Cheng Yun suddenly found this kid quite cute.

Just as he had said to Yang Hongjin, this person was brought to them. Despite the mysteries surrounding him, it was too cold outside, and they couldn’t possibly let a pregnant person remain stranded.
